photos: Life without imagery is a stark void. - 07/13/13 11:37 PM
The stark void squelches the sensor’s stare,
The brain knows something should be there,
Blank nothingness conquers imagery
And dulls the soul’s acuity.
      (R Weisser 2013)
For those of us that are blessed with the sense of sight, the use of imagery to convey information has exploded with the advent of new graphic technologies.
We not only appreciate a good photo or graphic accompanying a post, update, or story, we have come to expect it.
So when we are greeted with only stark text the brain seems to shut down and move on to something else.
Good imagery can really accentuate a … (11 comments)

photos: Some of my favorite photos of the year. (So far!) - 08/31/12 10:31 PM
Writing a daily blog post has some excellent side effects. Since a good photograph can really illustrate the point, I am always on the lookout for new subjects for my lens.
It’s good to be driven by a goal. You are motivated to do things that you might not otherwise undertake.
And I don’t travel the world to get my photos. Most are taken right here within thirty mile of home!
We are all “exposed” to thousands of photographic opportunities every day.
Whether of not we take advantage of them is up to us!

photos: Another not so wordless weekend photo essay ...old general stores along the way! - 03/14/09 03:38 PM
Every community had one. A small independent general merchandise store where you could purchase anything from hardware to a dozen eggs.
In addition, the local post office was often located inside, along with a few chairs for just sitting, having a cold soda, and chatting about local events.
And if by chance the store didn't stock the merchandise you needed, it could be ordered from one of the plethora of catalogs and delivered by mail in a few days. Other than church, there was mo other place in the community that was so centrally significant to small town life.
Here's a … (28 comments)

photos: Spring photo collage, Early Spring in Newnan Georgia in Pictures. - 03/11/09 01:20 PM
After a freak March snowfall, springtime has returned in full force in Newnan Georgia. It's a time of fleeting beauty and allergies, but it is inspiring and uplifting as well!
It does, however, make me lazy and want to take long strolls through the neighborhoods to capture all of the blooms with my camera, rather than sit is a small office surrounded by stacks of paper and long to-do lists!
But I feel so lethargic, so out of sorts that I can hardly seem to move!
Spring is a time of awakening, so I had better wake up!!!

photos: A not so wordless Weekday. Photos from my collection! - 01/14/09 09:06 AM
As most of you know, I love taking photos. I try to see beauty in everyday life, and if an average subject turns out fabulous when translate to 2d, then so much the better! I always have my camera bag with me, including my lenses and filters, ready at all times to capture a memorable visual image.
Here's a rather random selection from my portfolio. Some you might have seen before, some you may not, but I'll let the photos speak for themselves!

photos: The luck of the shot ... sometimes a photo just happens! - 08/02/08 03:54 PM
Photography is a visual art. It takes preparation and determination to get a good shot. I was always armed with my trusty Nikon 8088 and carried several lenses wherever I went.
One winter, I was at a friend's cabin in North Georgia which is on the Chattahoochee River. In this part of Georgia, it is more like a wide stream, clear and running and rocky!
I set up my camera on a tripod and decided to tale some long exposure of the river. I set the f-stop as closed as I could get it, F32 I believe and a 30 second … (18 comments)

photos: How Much is a Good Photograph Worth? Protecting your Photos in an Internet World. - 07/21/08 11:51 PM
I got a call from a nice lady in Florida yesterday. She works for a large publishing company that produces promotional travel materials for companies and governments, She called me specifically, because she needed a photo of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for the office Tennessee Visitor's Guide.
No problem, I get calls like that all of the time. I have been taking photographs of the Smokies for many years, and was one of the first to get a nice collection on the Internet.
My terms of use are liberal, so my photos have appeared in over a thousand publications … (42 comments)

photos: Glorious, it doesn't get any better than this! - 03/20/08 01:38 PM
It was a perfect day in Newnan, Georgia. Yes, it is indeed the first day of Spring, but that is an arbitrary word assigned to the day during which a specific astronomical event occurs. But that in itself, did not make the day perfect. No, it was a perfectly crisp, cool and clear day following rainstorms that cleansed the air of particulates and pollution! The sun shone gloriously, and late in the afternoon, I turned off the computer, left the office, and headed for downtown Newnan.
I am, after all, a photography buff. When you love photography, you learn to sense when the … (9 comments)

photos: Why I am a Photo Freak! - 03/12/08 08:14 AM
Before I attended high school, I had an epiphany regarding photography. I had worked hard mowing lawns, babysitting and delivering newspapers so I had a little cash available. My father always took great photos of us while we were on vacation, and I wanted to be able to take some pictures of my own. So I bought a very inexpensive Kodak 120 camera. The file was 35mm size, but in a cartridge that eliminated the need to spool or wind film. You just snapped a cartridge in and you were on your way. You could also add a flashcube, (sold separately) … (13 comments)
