spring: It’s time to get busy!
- 03/23/14 10:42 AM
Awake O, dormant feathered lace In pungent bursts of scented grace That lure the workers from hive to bloom, As Lazarus risen from Winter’s tomb! (Richard Weisser 2014) Spring has always been considered a time of new beginnings. And although the calendar may declare that January 1 is the beginning of the new year, Spring inaugurates the cycle of life in a more natural sense. As we emerge from hibernation, our spirits are reinvigorated with all that is fresh and new in the season! It’s time to put all of that new found energy to work and get busy. That

spring: Spring in the Southeastern United States starts early!
- 03/01/14 09:50 PM
Released from morning’s chill embrace, In mustered ranks as scouts to blaze The path towards Spring in all her grace, Towards vigor, growth, and longer days! (R Weisser 2014) Spring has sprung in the South! Now, I know that my dear friends in the upper Midwest are still dealing with sub-zero temperatures Winter loses its grip early in this part of the country! That’s not to say that we won’t have any more cold or wintry weather this season. But the natural cycles of our latitude call the early bloomers to muster in late February and early March. And while we are still

spring: The fleeting blooms of Spring.
- 03/17/13 12:09 AM
To tremble ‘neath the South Wind’s breath As downy feathered linen tufts, As snow defers to old Sol’s rays, White frosty blooms will melt away! (R Weisser 2013) The earliest blooming plants in Coweta County Georgia were stalled this year by cooler than usual temperatures in early March. As a result Spring blooms are running a week or two behind. Typically by mid-March the first blooms have dropped and the “second” tier of blooms has commenced. The good news is that now we get to enjoy the flowers a little deeper into the month than usual. The

spring: Shaking off the last of Winter’s throes!
- 03/02/13 10:06 PM
Belay the chill of Winter’s blasts, Let furnace fuel now burn to ash, To dark and cold we bid adieu And shake tired souls to life anew! (R Weisser 2013) It seems that Old Man Winter is having a hard time letting go this year. We had some snow flurries here in Coweta County yesterday. It’s not unheard of to have snow here during March but it still falls into the “unusual” category. But every season must eventually yield to the calendar. It’s time to get outside and get all of the Spring chores done. There is always plenty to do! It is

spring: The first signs of Spring!
- 02/16/13 10:00 PM
From frigid frozen tendrils spawned, The pinks and purples pierce the dawn, Pried from Winter’s icy grasp, Declare that Spring is nigh at last! (R Weisser 2013) One of the advantages to living in the South is that the first blooms of Spring arrive very early. Many daffodils were blooming in January, and the first tender blooms of pear and plum now penetrate the cold as a visible testament that Spring is indeed upon us. And even though temperatures are still below freezing this morning, the days are noticeably longer and it’s time to get outside and get those early yard chores done.

spring: Georgia, Easter, Passover and golf. It doesn’t get any better than that!
- 04/05/12 11:11 PM
This weekend is the assemblage of significant Spring rituals across a diverse spectrum of society. In addition to the lunar designated religious observances, the first major golf tournament of the year is being played in Augusta Georgia. It is a time of awakening and renewal. Here in Newnan, the trees are already fully leaved and everything is fresh and green! A gentle rain is falling outside. It will preserve the lush new growth with its cool succor. Regardless of you predilection, it’s going to be a great weekend! I wish you happiness and contentment!

spring: When color returns to life:
- 03/24/12 11:20 PM
The dark drab dabs on palette dry,The artist sets the old aside,‘Tis Spring, now vivid, vibrant colors glowFrom God’s own hand the pigments flow. (R Weisser 2012) Perhaps the drabness of Winter is such a stark contrast that our perception is skewed. Perhaps we are so anxious to withdraw from the dark, dreary days that our observations are colored with too much enthusiasm. Or is it just possible that in any context, the beauty of Spring is unsurpassed by any other season of the year? As the blooms struggle to complete their life cycle before the

spring: Spring pushes forth new life!
- 03/03/12 10:09 PM
Awake, from sleeping root push forthTo beckon famished apian swarms‘Tis Spring’s first industry of growthThat bursts from rock as Nature’s host! (R Weisser 2012) It’s THAT time of year again. The time when the earth warms enough to force the earliest blooms to open and face the sunlight before the canopy of leaves prohibit them for completing their reproduction cycles. I often marvel at how delicate and fragile these earliest flowers are. Springtime conditions provide a harsh environment and the plants will only bloom a short time. And while you

spring: It’s time to emerge from hibernation and to get out and get things done!
- 02/25/12 09:55 PM
Through shadowed vales and sheltered covesBlue serpents writhe ‘long graveled roadsCold vernal surging streams of blueTo baptize fields with life anew! (R Weisser 2012) Climate is as much a part oaf any locale as any other attribute. Weather affects everything from industry to attitude, and especially lifestyle. In Georgia, late Winter and early Spring offers cool nights and moderate to warm days. It’s a great time of year to get outside and do yard chores and landscaping projects. There are few annoying insects and still some time for plants to

spring: An early Spring in Newnan Georgia!
- 02/05/12 01:22 AM
Come set your joy on golden frondsThat spice the meadow with saffron strains‘Tis Spring that waxes, fresh verdure dawnsAwakes as Winter’s crescent wanes! ( R Weisser 2012 ) Spring has come early to Newnan Georgia this year. The “jonquils” started blooming in January and the “redbuds” are resplendent in their awakening. The trees are already budding out. And while I enjoy Spring as much as anyone, you have to wonder about the impact this unseasonably mild winter will have on agriculture. The famous Georgia Peaches require a significant amount of hours below

spring: Spring is a time for all things fresh and new.
- 03/06/11 01:33 PM
O burst awake from slumber’s trance Alight as wispy cotton fluff, Feathered fronds deck twig and branch With snow-white downy petaled tufts. (R. Weisser 2011) Spring is a time of awakening. It is also a time for new growth. Although the calendar year started just over two months ago, the natural new year is just now on the cusp of commencement. As the early blooms emerge, it is a time for all things fresh and new. And it’s also time to throw last year’s dead wood on the compost heap! It’s more than just starting with a new attitude. It

spring: The First Harbinger of Spring in Coweta County Georgia!
- 02/16/11 11:35 PM
One of the reasons that I moved to the South was to escape the dreadful winters north of the Mason-Dixon Line! As a youth I learned that shoveling snow was NOT something that I enjoyed doing. So I headed for the warmer climate of Georgia, with its shorter, milder and wetter winters. And for most of the nearly four decades that I have been here, I have been very satisfied with my decision. But the last few winters here in Dixie have been colder and snowier than usual. It was almost as if my past had crept up on me and

spring: The fasting growing thing this Spring is my list of chores! Where does the time go?
- 04/03/10 12:12 AM
We have experienced an unusually cold and wet winter here in Coweta County Georgia. February and March are typically sprinkled with mild days, allowing one to have occasion to keep up with the outdoor chores on a semi-regular basis. Not so this year. Persistent inclimate weather postponed most of the outside preparation rituals until warmer and dryer days. And that is what we are experiencing right now. And while I would rather be able to get out with camera in hand and relax for a day or two, the house needs its annual dose of maintenance and the yard needs to

spring: It’s officially Spring, and it’s about time! The trees are blooming and the buyers are stirring!
- 03/21/10 12:09 AM
Spring is arriving late here in Georgia. The blooming trees and shrubs all seem to have been confused by all of the Winter weather that we have experienced, but after a few warm days the explosion of profuse flowering has commenced in earnest. We typically see these first blooms in early March, and by the equinox the first green leaves have already pushed out. But this year is far from typical. Not entirely coincidentally, the pattern of the real estate business seems to be paralleling the weather. As the daily temperatures have warmed up so has the desire of buyers to

spring: Sometimes there is golden joy to be discovered in the midst of disappointment! I found it yesterday and Spring is just around the corner.
- 02/27/10 11:38 PM
I went to preview a bank foreclosure for an out of state buyer yesterday. It was in a very rural area in the westernmost part of the county. And although it was chilly and a brisk wind was blowing, the sun was shining and it was a nice day for a drive. The house was a bit of a disappointment, as it needed a lot more work than was expected, and that would probably keep it out of the buyer’s price range, There was termite damage and mold, much likely the result of water infiltration. In addition the mechanical systems

spring: Hey, there’s a world out there beyond the screen of my laptop. Maybe I’ll go out today and have a look-see!
- 02/21/10 12:15 AM
It’s probably a side-effect of the unseasonably cold weather here in Newnan, Georgia, but it feels like I have been spending an abnormally large amount of time staring at the LCD on my laptop. But today, the spring-like weather is beckoning me to emerge from hibernation and to get outside and have a look. There’s a whole world out there waiting to emerge from the doldrums of torpor and to get out and discover new and exciting things. It’s amazing how our internal body clocks and basic animal instincts take over, and refusal to give in to the primeval urges are

spring: Winter in the South the way it supposed to be …FINALLY! This is why I moved here in the first place!
- 02/20/10 10:55 AM
It reached 60 degrees on a beautiful day in Newnan Georgia today. After all, this is supposed to be the sunny south! Tomorrow we are expected to hit 67 degrees, but after that we will gradually return back to unseasonably cool weather, as Thursday’s HIGH temperature is predicted to only achieve the 35 degree mark! This has been the coldest winter that I can recall since I moved to Georgia in 1973. We have experienced floods and heavy snowfall when typically we would be playing golf or working in the winter garden. So I’ll enjoy the warm day tomorrow and will

spring: Photos of the North Georgia Mountains on another not so wordless weekday.
- 04/22/09 12:02 PM
The vales from emerald quilts are wakedViridian green-clad boughs draw nighAwake to don the robes of leafAs celadon waves crash on mountains high. (R Weisser) Spring comes late to the mountains of North Georgia! But the mountains take on a special beauty as they transform from wintry grays and browns into a carpet of green. Beginning in the river valleys of the lowlands, and gradually rising into the high elevations, the emerald tide rolls in swells towards the crests of the range. The advent of spring occurs day after day in each topographic plane. It's a special kind of beauty!

spring: Spring is just Autumn is reverse, and very often there are unique photographic opportunities that are overlooked!
- 04/18/09 12:10 AM
When we think of spring and photography, we usually think about all of the wonderful and colorful blooms that burst forth in our neighborhood. It is truly beautiful and I take as many photos of flowers in spring as I can. But some years back, I also noticed that trees had a unique quality during the leafing process. As they initially set their seeds, they assume autumn-like hues for a very short period of time. They can appear red, orange and yellow with a translucent quality that is very conducive to photography. The film photograph in this article, which appears at first

spring: As winter wanes, all of nature bursts forth into a new and glorious spring fresh world!

Such ecstasy of hint and hueAwash on vernal breezes fresh,Just once a year the spell is castTis Spring in all her glory dressed!
