stress: Danger! Overload Alert! Danger - 07/19/12 09:53 PM
Ever have one of “those” days when everything hits all at once?
Yesterday was one of those days. Everything that I have been working on for the last few weeks seemed to foment into a caldron of crisis.
After performing emergency triage, I began to treat each pending issue with all of my skill and aplomb. And I would have been fine:
But the phone didn’t stop ringing!
Then I started getting the second round of assaults. The ones that said that I was going to call them back as soon as I finished up. Yes, indeed I did make that … (22 comments)

stress: Not every rescue attempt succeeds. Sometimes you must accept your losses and move on. - 06/24/10 01:02 AM

Yesterday was a particularly stressful one for me. It seemed that every phone call or email conveyed a major problem with a deal in process. In addition, two of my dear friends are immersed in life and death personal crises
As the pressure builds, and the realization sets in that these there is no way around it, the fires must be put out one at a time. No matter how hard it is to do so or how long it takes.
Occasionally, the rescue attempts succeed, and all that is needed is a some minor repair work and some clean-up!

stress: Living and working in the world of real estate deadlines means one thing … STRESS! - 02/23/10 10:56 PM
Real estate is not for the timid or faint of heart. Every aspect of the business involves a deadline of one kind of another.
Listings have a deadline. Contracts have many deadlines, for inspections, financing, appraisal, resolution, closing and others. Not to mention limited time frames for rate “lock-ins” or sale of property contingencies.  It is always a race against the clock.
In addition to all of the internal drop dead dates that are always pressing us forward, we also have to deal with external deadlines, such as the April 30th expiration of the $8000 first-time homebuyer tax credit.
All of … (75 comments)

stress: When you are doing an “all-nighter,” it’s easy to lose track of time! - 01/13/10 07:06 PM
As I have mentioned several times lately, I have a lot on my plate right now. I am getting along all right, because I have been able to acquire “extra” time by avoiding sleep.
As the clock nears 4:00 A.M. I begin to wonder: Is it really, really late right now, or am I past the point of no return and it’s now very early. These are the kinds of things that you think about after a significant amount of sleep deprivation.
I am going to assume it’s early and start a pot of coffee. I have a long day ahead … (43 comments)

stress: I'm going to spend a relaxing weekend ...WORKING! ! Compared to working during the week it's like a walk in the park!! - 07/18/09 12:11 AM
After a week rife with problems and issues, I'm looking forward to the weekend. And it's not due to the fact that I won't be working, because I will be on the job as usual.
But the weekend work is going to be easy and relatively stress free. Visiting listings, refilling brochure boxes, checking up on sellers and catching up on a ton of web work!
And the reason that I can relax is simple ...the banks and attorneys are closed, so I won't have to make that endless stream of phone calls, faxes and emails trying to finish work that … (24 comments)

stress: Does the stress of everyday life get you down? Chill out and go with the flow! - 01/14/09 11:10 PM
Have you been a little uptight lately? Is the stress of the current economic cataclysm getting you down? Is the tension mounting every day?
Well, here's some simple advice: Stop worrying about the things that you cannot change. There are immutable forces in the world that are outside our sphere and totally out of our control. There is nothing we can do to have any effect on the powers that be whatsoever.
Sometimes we get so wound up in everything that is happening around us, that we lose track of this simple truth:
We need to focus on the thing s … (31 comments)
