Toggle Your Folder Views
(On a Windows PC) Depending on the content of the folder that you are looking at, there are two view types that you can toggle between to best show you the files. If you are looking at a folder of images, the thumbnails view is very useful. If it is a folder of miscellaneous documents, then the details view is usually preferred. With details view, … (21 comments)

windows: Tech Snippets: Show the Desktop - 03/16/23 02:56 PM
Tech Snippets - a new series of short posts showing helpful tools and methods that could easily be missed or overlooked, yet are things that are extremely helpful once you know!
Do you know this one?...
Show the Desktop - On a Windows PCHow many app windows do you have running simultaneously? 3, or 5, or 15? (they easily add up). The quickest way to "minimize all" is by using one of the following two shortcuts to show your desktop again. If you are a Windows user, you can use the Windows Key + D shortcut to do this. There's also another way … (15 comments)

windows: Tech Tip Thursday - Shortcut Keys - 07/17/20 01:57 PM
Preamble
Yes, you are correct... this is a tech tip Thursday post on a Friday. Furthermore, if you are having a feeling of deja vu, confirmed on the second count also! This post was part of the ActiveRain site June amnesia incident. 2020 is just full of little surprises for us :) Anyhow, had I been doing things in proper order, I would have posted to my regular site first and then copied here to AR. The last couple of posts, I hadn't been following that order. Thankfully, Google had cached my post and I was able to retrieve it (thank you … (19 comments)

windows: Tech Tip Thursday - Shortcut Keys - 06/18/20 11:00 AM
I love using shortcut keys! There are certain frequently used commands and tools that are made instantly available to you when you invest just a little time in learning the shortcut key combinations. Today, I'm going to highlight a key that is useful for Windows users and that is the "Windows Key". (NOTE: if you are on Mac, skip to the bottom, I have tips for you also!)

windows: My Desktop - A Little Insight to Me - 11/13/15 11:30 PM
Dick Greenberg's November Contest (Show Us Your Wallpaper) has inspired this post. I think it is a interesting way to get a glimpse of each other's worlds as the computer (and phone) screens tells a little story about us! :)
I've been a little absent from blogging lately (busy days!) so the contest was a good chance also to say hello to everyone and let you know I'm still here!
Well, here's a snapshot of my computer desktop..........
I thought I'd show you not only my wallpaper, but also my entire desktop because it gives me a quite a few thoughts for show and tell … (36 comments)

Windows 8 is here and it is a big interface change! The next computer that you buy will probably have it installed (that is unless you are going to or staying with Mac). It is essential that you get to know Windows 8 a little first if you want your user experience to be a good one! Invest a little time learning the new interface before you turn on your new computer and you won't be COMPLETELY LOST when you do!
Here's the new start screen as we can see from the windows website:

Yes windows 8 is designed to … (42 comments)

windows: Keyboard Command Shortcuts - Power User Tips - 09/17/11 01:26 AM
I really like shortcuts. Shortcuts are quicker ways to get things done. We don't have enough hours in the day as it is, every little bit of time savings helps! Today's class I want to show you keyboard command shortcuts that you can use for common commands that you can do if you are using Windows (sorry Macs, although I have a feeling that you might have something similar if you look). This was one of the points that I demonstrated in a recent webinar, "So You Want to be a Power User". I will be recording these classes in the … (59 comments)
