certified staging: Clearing Up Churned Waters - 09/06/07 10:33 PM
Recently I wrote and posted  2 similar blogs entitled: Inconvenient Truths about Home Staging. A shorter edited down version was posted here on Active Rain while a more complete and comprehensive version was then posted here on what I call my "pretty blog."
The post created quite a ruckus with a foundation training company whose website, at one point, I quoted directly from and linked to to prove that I was not making an unsubstantiated point. They, however felt attacked and prestented me with Cease & Desist email and comments. I have since removed all of my direct references to them in my posts and all links I had placed in … (31 comments)

certified staging: DO YOUR HOMEWORK... before you sign up for training. - 01/08/07 02:00 AM

Home staging is beginning to blossom as interest and awareness grows and more and more people positively experience the rewards of that home staging brings to both the home seller and realtor.And... with so much positive possibility and "buzz" about what we do... more and more people are trusting in home staging as a career and are researching home staging training resources for professional education. Many are discoveringWith all this swirling around my head... I thought I could take a positive step to help those interested in home staging.
So this weekend I happened to be working on updating my 'pretty … (48 comments)

certified staging: DRIVE-BY Comment HITS one of my Blogs... AGAIN! - 10/31/06 11:38 PM
Well for the second time this week one of my blogs has been “hit” with a comment from someone outside Active Rain.
This time the anonymous comment hit a blog I posted way back on August 10th entitled Stepping on "accredited/certified” stager’s toes…
And while I could let just the anonymous comment sit there quietly and go unnoticed, I think it points to the need for respecting and understanding within the staging industry and amongst staging peers.
While for the most part the Anonymous Commment was insightful from their perspective it did take a bit of a “pot shot”… regarding "those without formal … (16 comments)

certified staging: ASP? HSE? What's-a-stager-SUPPOSED-to-be? - 10/08/06 01:24 AM
My answer is... EITHER. NEITHER. BOTH.
Cindy Lin, a new stager here on AR commented on one of my previous blogs.  Cindy summed up her desire for training and her training experience well when she said,  "granted the talent of staging is not teachable, but business models and skills are. i went through the asp course myself, and recently iris. what it gave me was support, business model, skills, knowledge about the industry and testing my waters as a stager. moreover, you learn tricks of the trades which may take many more trials of errors for me to personally go through." … (32 comments)

certified staging: USE YOUR EYES! - 09/27/06 12:13 PM

I know there are those realtors out there that have never heard of staging... even here on AR. So I blog on.. for YOU are the gateway for recommendation of our staging services.
If you are interested in considering using a stager... USE YOUR EYES and look at stagers here on AR as a cross section of what the Professional Staging Industry has to offer.
If you USE YOUR EYES you will see the level of quality and skill is "all over the place".  JUST because someone attaches the word professional to their name... does NOT make them so.
USE YOUR EYES... there are some AMAZING … (7 comments)

certified staging: Another FEISTY BLOG about "Professional" Staging! - 09/27/06 11:22 AM
Well it seems like everyone and there brother/sister is becoming a stager. Which is a good and bad thing.
GOOD... because it means the industry and the concept is growing.
BAD... because is seem like all a person needs to do is get a cute name, business card and an accredited/certified “staging fairy” can turn them into professional stager. Hocus Pocus!
Well tonite I JUST went to a staged home site where a “professional” proudly displayed their work. AND I KID YOU NOT... the BEFORE was BETTER THAN the AFTER! The BEFORE was BETTER!!!!!
NOT every home needs staging... AND JUST BECAUSE YOU MOVE … (5 comments)

certified staging: AUTHENTIC & UNIVERSAL Credentialing for Stagers - 08/13/06 04:40 AM
THIS is why I love ActiveRain.... actually JoAnn Guida came up with the perfect parallel to help explain my concerns and wishes for AUTHENTIC and UNIVERSAL credentialing of stagers.   (Now why didn't I think of this? LOL)
Anyway, JoAnn made the GOOD POINT that ... "Once upon a time Interior Designers weren`t licensed either today they have to be a member of the ASID." She went on to ask,  "Do you believe the same will hold true for staging?I believe this is exactly where this is heading."
So actually ASID is an impartial society that requires members meet a few acceptance standards: … (6 comments)

certified staging: Stepping on "accredited/certified” stager’s toes… - 08/09/06 11:24 PM
I've said it before... staging talent is NOT just acquired by sitting in a weekend seminar or EVEN a week-long workshop. I have worked with people that have NO formal training and they have "it".
Real Estate staging is having an eye for symmetry, balance, scale, proportion, and color. It is also a keen and innate talent for marketing and visual merchandising, as well as, having a sense of organization, cleanliness and flow. It is an understanding of sales demographics and how they can impact the "setting" of a property for sale in the market place.
I DO NOT think that what I described … (23 comments)

certified staging: GET THIS... real estate staging is NOT interior design! - 08/09/06 12:40 PM
So in the last week now, twice I have had clients that want to tell ME how to stage their totally vacant properties.  That is like going to the dentist and telling him you know how to drill our own teeth... and asking for the drill while he watches.  Real Estate staging is NOT interior design. The work we do is NOT a reflection of the seller's life, tastes, hopes, dreams, or wishes.  It IS a cohesive and UNDERSTATED expression of what the LARGEST home buying demographic segment would find appealing.
To date we NOW have over 2OOO props in our … (5 comments)

certified staging: UP STAGING the competition... 2 VERY different stagings on the same property - 07/29/06 03:25 AM
Realtors need to know that just because a person or business call themelves "stagers" does not mean that they can actually do a professional job. EVEN if they are "Accrediated".
Here is an actual job we recently re-staged. The builder has paid an unbelievable $9,000 in fees to this furniture rental company! This type of "staging" is what I call... "plop and drop".
This "accredited" company gave NO thought or effort as to HOW the few pieces of furniture they supplied should be placed in the home.
To make the home look waaaay more appealing. We came in and reset the space using the rental companies own furniture and then added … (34 comments)

certified staging: Stagers: Certified, accredited and waving a magic wand... - 07/24/06 01:21 PM
I feel compelled to yap a bit more on my blog from yesterday.  First, keep in mind that what I have to say is just my opinion based on my observations.  But after yesterday's insightful comments from Kristal Kraft, and Geri Sonkin I was inspired to do some more sleuthing to back up my comments.
First... yes, there are organizations that accredit, certify or wave some sort of magic wand and turn people into "staging professionals" with some alphabetic mambo jumbo acronym they can put on a business card. Acronyms such as:
IRIS: interior redesign industry specialists ASP: accredited staging professional CSP: certified staging … (9 comments)
