blogging: Pondering Quality over Quantity in the Rain and beyond - 11/11/16 11:59 AM
Pondering Quality over Quantity in the Rain and beyond.
A few thoughts that I am pondering tonight on this age old question.
We hear a lot of people whining and gnashing whenever a change occurs in the Rain, will it diminish the quality of our posts, for example those who feared the increase to 20 per week would lead to a diminishing of quality throughout the rain.
I generally call BS when I hear this argument since those who post crap will always post crap, and those who post epic posts will always post epic posts.
The funny thing is that many of those who worry … (16 comments)

3000 Blog Posts, a lot of Fun and a few other Perks too.
2.7 years ago I finally got serious about blogging, I had decided a few months earlier that doing the blogging thing was a smart way to drive some business my way, but I just could not think of anything worth saying, so I didn't.
Then in April of 2012 I remembered something that my high school English teacher and then later my college professors mentioned about writers block.
When you cant think of anything to write, just start by writing ANYTHING, and then something worthwhile will start to flow … (59 comments)

blogging: Reblog Snobs, it’s not about You! - 06/23/14 01:03 AM
Reblog Snobs, it’s not about You!
I hear lots of excuses why many people in the rain don’t reblog, generally stated in a particular tone while criticizing those who do.
In my opinion most of these people are just misinformed about the purpose of a reblog, they often think that it is swiping someone else’s info to promote themselves, but they have been grossly misinformed.

A reblog is  not about how the reblog is going to help your business, though sometimes it will.
It’s not about taking credit for someone else’s post (just an endorsement or a toast … (11 comments)

JFK, 911, AR/t….Conspiracy Theories?
We hear a lot about conspiracy theories in our world.  Sometimes there is something rotten going on, sometimes it is just poor communications, and other times it is just our imagination and distrust.
Sure JFK had some serious enemies, and they may have done him in or it may have just been some nut from Dallas who came along and made JFK’s enemies very happy.
Sure 911 worked out well for an unpopular Bush, but I doubt that he was devious or smart enough to pull off that intricate of a caper.  Again most likely some … (33 comments)

Never Taking a Day Off, Keeping Good Habits, Why We Never Stop Blogging
I am a very spontaneous and often unfocused person.
This makes me good at adapting to changes and handling new situations, but it also makes it hard for me to develop habits, especially the good ones.
A few years ago I realized why blogging was important to keeping my business alive on the internet, and could be a fun way to get into writing.
Then 2 years and one month ago, I started blogging, actually I started a few months before that but never actually started.  Then … (10 comments)

Sensei Grasshopper  Having Fun Sharing a Few Tips on H tags and Speedy Posts
As I have mentioned before, Dick Greenberg’s challenge is a great one, encouraging us to learn and share from each other a few tips on blogging and real estate.
Finding it easier to share information than to ask for help, I chose to volunteer my services as a Sensei and wrote a post on a few things that I may be able to share some insight on.

blogging: The Fine Art of the Reblog - 03/24/14 03:23 PM
The Fine Art of the Reblog
It has been said that a reblog is like a toast to a fine blog post, I believe that my friend Richie said that.
And he is correct, what better way to say thanks for a great blog, and share it with the other people who missed it the first time that it rushed through the daily blog roll.
Some people do their reblogs kind of randomly, reposting them right after they see them, but I like to save them up for a while mostly so that they can be seen by someone who was … (16 comments)

How long should a blog post be?
Back about a third of a century ago when I was a freshman in college I had a pretty cool English professor for English 104, so cool that I took his course again for English 105.
Larry was not just a professor, he was a pretty good writer himself, and is now an accomplished author with close to a dozen hits.
The main thing we did in these two semesters was to write a few essays every week, then sit around and discuss them, pretty simple, but a good approach since the … (52 comments)

blogging: How do You Like to be Called? - 10/21/13 05:05 PM
How do You Like to be Called?
Sunday night I got a call from Margaret, and I noticed that she was concerned about it possibly being too late to call, or that a call may be disturbing my wife.
Of course, I was just delighted to get a call from her, and Sally after being married to a small businessman who lives his career 24-7 for the past 3 decades, is used to my receiving calls at all hours, and has no problem with this either.
But her concerns did bring up an important topic…  When do we like to be … (15 comments)

Just for the Points, Payment for a Job Well Done.
I first started getting serious about AR about a year and a half ago and the more that I learn the more that I respect this mechanism known affectionately as Active Rain, pure genius.
Active Rain is a media superstar, producing a great media outlet with thousands of great writers and commenters creating buzz constantly to attract the dollars of happy advertisers.
And all of the writers are paid in Points, Media coverage and SEO boosts.
Again, pure genius!

At first I thought the points were silly, but then … (65 comments)

blogging: New Headers in the Editor & Comment Boxes, but something is missing. - 09/26/13 03:47 PM
New Headers in the Blog Editor and Comment Boxes, but something is missing.
Tonight while I was busy reading a few blogs before bed and making a few comments I was interrupted with a set of Red Curtains.
Fortunately they only lasted an hour and it was cool to see a new header on the comment box,
But after writing my comment I noticed that something was missing, The Spell Check Button!
Maybe it is here and my tired eyes are just missing it, or maybe they just forgot it and it will show up tomorrow.
Or maybe they thought … (13 comments)

11 days, 9000 pts, 50 years
About a year ago, I was 4 months into the blogging thing and thought that I had it all figured out and set my sights on becoming a free rainmaker by the end of August of 2013, if I worked hard and steady toward this goal.
A few months ago when I cleared the 400k milestone, I made the bold prediction that I would not only reach this goal in August, but would reach this lofty milestone by my 50th birthday on August 4th.
Since that time I have had a few doubts about this … (65 comments)

Orphans Blog Posts Need Your Help Today
As many of you know, it takes at least 3 comments for a blog to get comment points and is cool when you can be the third comment knowing that the blogger will now get a boost with 12 points.
I always try to concentrate most of my weekly comments on these orphan blogs that did not get noticed yet, and spend far less of my time on the featured blogs or the blogs from the daily drop.
There is nothing wrong with these popular blogs, but leaving comments on these sometimes seems redundant … (8 comments)

Active Rain Reorientation AKA Bob Stewart Explains the New Features and How they are Making Active Rain Better
Today Bob Stewart held a great webinar to Re-Orient us to some of the new features and changes on our active rain page and give us a peek at some of the future changes that may be coming up.
Here are a few of my notes on the webinar, if you missed it, make sure that you watch for a repeat, it was worth the time.

Time to Quit Playing and Get to Work
I think that is what Bob Stewart meant to say this morning when he sent me an email detailing what I need to do to be an effective Rainmaker.
And he is right, I should be looking at Active Rain as a money making operation rather than a way to blow off steam and visit with friends.
So now to decide what type of blogs will make the phone Ring!
