caring for the environment: Keep an eye on your Dogs in Northern Wisconsin Wolf Country
- 11/18/13 05:53 AM
Keep an eye on your Dogs when traveling in Northern Wisconsin Wolf Country. At least 24 dogs were killed by Wolves in the third quarter of this year. And so far in the fourth quarter a pet German short haired pointer was killed in her owner's yard in Ashland County. Of course these numbers are likely to be underestimations since many other dogs just disappear without any witnesses as to what happened to them while playing in the woods. It is no secret that our wolf populations are out of control in Wisconsin after years of being

caring for the environment: Locked Antlers
- 11/14/13 08:02 AM
Locked Antler Rescue We hear a lot this time of year of the many hazards of being a deer with hunters about and lots of cars that don't see them as they rush across the highways in a rut inspired hysteria. But one common hazard that happens often yet is seldom noticed is the hazards from other deer. For one of the magnificent bucks in this video nothing could be done after the stronger buck did him in, but for the other, he was lucky that someone called a veterinarian. Charlie and Adam Anderson risked their lives to attempt a rescue of

caring for the environment: FAQ, I am Looking for a Deer Haven, Which Property Should I Choose?
- 11/13/13 12:09 AM
FAQ, I am Looking for a Deer Haven, Which Property Should I Choose? Deer like most wildlife species spend most of their time in what we call Edge areas. These Edge areas are basically the place where the Three Essentials of all Wildlife Habitat exist, Food, Water, and Cover. If you understand these essentials and how they apply to Whitetail Deer, and have them on your land then the deer will stay here. Water In this part of the country, water is seldom a problem with plentiful wetlands, ponds, streams, lakes and puddles just about everywhere. In the event

caring for the environment: Finding a Buyer for Your Forest land Properties
- 11/12/13 05:59 AM
Timber Appraisal and Wildlife Evaluation Having a good Timber appraisal and Wildlife Habitat inventory can make the difference in finding the right buyer for forestland properties. A good Forest inventory and appraisal will allow your seller to properly price and market the property both to investors and hunters who are looking to maximize their investment. Wildlife habitat should also be incorporated into this appraisal as hunting and recreation is the number one reason for most forestland purchases in Wisconsin. <

caring for the environment: High Jumping Elk in Colorado Playing with Toys in the back yard.
- 11/07/13 02:38 AM
High Jumping Elk in Colorado Playing with Toys in the back yard. This is my second blog post with a Colorado connection this week. I saw this one on the outdoor life blog today shot by a fellow named Greg Chase who apparently has plentiful wildlife in his backyard. Not only did he have a young Elk enjoying his childrens' trampoline, but the neighbors also had a tragic mishap when an unfortunate red fox got stuck while playing with a soccer goal. I was happy to see that the young elk stayed safe while playing with Greg's trampoline and
