For a while we worried about making the deadline, but things are going well now, the temps have slowed down and kept most of the frost in the ground and the ice in the swamps and that of course makes all the difference when working in areas like this.
We are now getting reports back from the check cruisers, all very favorable, … (13 comments)

MFL, Reducing Property Taxes on Wisconsin Forestland!
Taxes are killing me, how can I reduce my property taxes on my forestland?
This is a common question among Wisconsin Forest Landowners with increased assessments following the historic increases in Forestland Values in the first decade of this century.
There are a few options out there for you and the best opportunity is likely to be the Managed Forest Law program.

Together with landowner objectives, the law incorporates timber harvesting, wildlife management, water … (6 comments)

forestland taxes: Who will carry on your work? Family Forest Transition - 10/15/14 03:42 PM
Who will carry on your work? Family Forest Transition.

We have many clients who are dedicated to creating a better forest on their lands.

They are good land stewards, often spending a lifetime improving the forest in little ways and in major ways only to reach the end of their lives and have their hard work completely undone when their heirs liquidate their forest.

Heirs don't generally try to undo their parents work; they generally just don't know what path to take.
They often don't know that taking the wrong trees out in a thinning is generally worse than taking all … (5 comments)

Taxes on your Wisconsin Forestland getting too high?
Wisconsin’s Managed Forest Law (MFL) is a landowner incentive program that encourages sustainable forestry on private woodlands in Wisconsin. Together with landowner objectives, the law incorporates timber harvesting, wildlife management, water quality and recreation to maintain a healthy and productive forest. To participate in the MFL program, landowners designate property as “Open” or “Closed” to public access for recreation, and commit to a 25 or 50 year … (2 comments)
