franciscans: Bacon, Old Friends, Memories, and Priorities - 05/31/19 06:40 AM
Bacon, Old Friends, Memories, and Priorities
Through my work with Franciscans I have found many friends in the homeless community and a few of them were active in my thoughts this morning.
After arriving home from a Forestry and Real Estate trip to the Northwoods early this morning, my wife asked me what I wanted for breakfast and Bacon and Eggs were a tasty choice.
While enjoying a slice of tasty bacon a couple of friends who have both passed on this year came to mind and a little tiff that they had.  A dispute that seemed so important to them and somewhat trivial … (14 comments)

franciscans: Stevens Point Students help care for our fine feathered friends. - 03/26/17 10:22 PM
Stevens Point Students help care for our fine feathered friends.
The seventh and eighth grade CCD students for St. Joseph and St. Stephens parishes are building birdhouses to be installed at the various daycare centers throughout the Stevens Point area.
Approximately 30 birdhouses will be built on Wednesday March 29. Each student will have a chance to assemble at least one birdhouse.
Every fourth Wednesday the CCD students have a service project designed to help out our community.
This one was inspired by St. Francis of Assisi’s love for nature and all of God’s creatures.
This service project was made available through … (2 comments)

Sister Claude Got It Right This Time… A Groundhog Day Reprise.
I was inspired to bring this post from last year back to the surface tonight when I read some thoughts on "getting it right" in my friend Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD 's post.
Enjoy the inspiration in both of our posts, and I hope that you and I can both Get it Right.

Franciscans Downtown, A Ministry of Presence; Reflection, Conversation, and Refreshment

"A place of Gospel Refreshment; Rest and Conversation on the stories of our lives."

Franciscans Downtown, is not only a place that I like to volunteer at several times each week, but also a place that I like to share with all of my guests, including a few out of town visitors that stopped by today.
A few years ago my friend, Fr. Placid Stroik, retired from 30 years of service at Covenant House in New York City.  He moved back to his home state of Wisconsin, where he took a position as … (3 comments)

franciscans: A Good Weekend at Marywood - 11/06/16 02:26 PM
A Good Weekend at Marywood
This past weekend was a good weekend with meaningful work accomplished, time for prayer, great scenery, and a little time for fun.

The Order of Franciscan Seculars Regional council for the Laverna Region (Wisconsin and Upper Michigan), gathered together for a weekend of work in a very beautiful place on Friday.

Long days were spent learning, planning and working on solutions to the challenges that are encountered by the people we serve.

Great food, camaraderie, prayer, and scenery were enjoyed by all.
Sunday we left Marywood just in time to celebrate Mass in Woodruff Wisconsin before heading home.

 Jack was … (2 comments)

Waking up to a Northwoods Sunrise.
Oh the beauty that God gives us in Northern Wisconsin.
Snapped this photo to share this morning, but could not get to a computer until now.
I hope you are enjoying your weekend, I am too, though very tired from a lot of work and meetings yesterday and today.
For those of you who have not guessed already, this is a shot across Trout Lake in Vilas County Wisconsin.
Vilas is a county with a million great views, and I am happy to be waking up to this one.
Have a Happy Sunday!

franciscans: Sharing an Easter Reflection from Richard Rohr and Ilia Delio… - 03/27/16 05:33 AM
Sharing an Easter Reflection from Richard Rohr and Ilia Delio…
I was catching up on a little paperwork today related to my job as the leader of the local group of Third Order Franciscans when I came across an email that our Spiritual Assistant, Sister Rose sent a few days ago.
I actually already had the reflection in my inbox before she sent it, I am also a subscriber to Richard Rohr, but had ignored it in my usual email triage of dealing with only the critical stuff.
But since Sister Rose wanted me to bring the subject of this email up with our … (3 comments)

franciscans: Giving up Worrying this week with Fr Bill Cieslak, OFM Cap - 02/28/16 11:28 AM

Giving up Worrying this week with Fr Bill Cieslak, OFM Cap
A Capuchin Franciscan priest from Arizona helped to celebrate Masses in Stevens Point this weekend as he prepared for his Pre Mercy Marathon Parish Mission this week.
One suggestion that he shared that stuck with me was to…
Give up one extra thing this Lent...   Worry.
Let God take over our worries and spend the time that we would normally spend on worry to get closer to God through prayer and reflection.
I like this idea and I will concentrate on doing this.

I thought about writing up something about what he will be … (2 comments)

franciscans: A busy, rewarding day, sharing and teaching - 12/29/14 03:34 PM
A busy, rewarding day, sharing and teaching
One thing that I enjoy about this time of year is that I am often called upon to do a bit of teaching on Goals and other business concepts.
Today I spent most of the day at our local convent teaching a leadership workshop to the leaders of a couple of local Franciscan groups.
It was a beautiful setting and a great group and I think that all learned some important concepts and skills, that can be used to better serve our members.
Of course one drawback of a beautiful place like the convent mother … (18 comments)

franciscans: God is Not Cool with Racism Either! - 12/03/14 10:11 AM
God is Not Cool with Racism Either!
Though things are not perfect yet I think that our country has come a long way forward in ending racism and the acceptance of racism.  Certainly an improvement from when I was young, and even more of an improvement over what it was like when my parents or grandparents were young.
I am happy to see these improvements and saddened when racism shows it's ugly face from time to time.
In my role as a Franciscan minister I often have occasion to council and teach other Catholics, and it is in this role that I had an occasion … (17 comments)
