huntingland: Hunting Deer in Posted Places?
- 11/17/14 05:27 AM
Hunting Deer in Posted Places? With the Wisconsin Deer Gun Season approaching fast most hunters have a prime site secured but a few are still relying on public lands or finding a last minute. Keep in mind that in Wisconsin it is Illegal to Trespass, even on Non Posted Land. So take some time to get to know the owners of the land that you wish to hunt on and get written permission. Failure to do so may make for a very expensive and unpleasant deer hunting season. You could also call me, I may know of a few great properties that

Some types of trees require total sunlight to reproduce and grow such as Aspen, White Birch, Cottonwood, Red Pine, Jack Pine, Spruce, and Oak. huntingland: The Sellers Advantage for Forested Properties
- 10/23/14 04:45 PM
Timber Appraisal and Wildlife Evaluation Having a good Timber appraisal and Wildlife Habitat inventory can make the difference in finding the right buyer for forestland properties. A good Forest inventory and appraisal will allow your seller to properly price and market the property both to investors and hunters who are looking to maximize their investment. Wildlife habitat should also be incorporated into this appraisal as hunting and recreation is the number one reason for most forestland purchases in Wisconsin.

huntingland: Bolstering Wildlife Habitat on Your Roads, Trails, and Landings
- 09/26/14 03:24 AM
Bolstering Wildlife Habitat on Your Roads, Trails, and Landings. In the Lake States of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan one of the critical components often lacking in our dense forests is food rich openings. Dense forests are great for cover, but they are very deficient in the food department, leading to starvation being the main factor keeping wildlife populations in check. Frequent timber sales will help to provide winter food with new growth and young sprouts, and creation of grassy openings are important for summer food sources. Sometimes it is wise to create openings though this can be an expensive; other times it

huntingland: Food, Cover, and Water; Like a Magnet for Wildlife
- 09/26/14 12:01 AM
Food, Cover, and Water; Like a Magnet for Wildlife When I was a kid growing up on a farm surrounded with forest these small narrow fields were a great frustration for my dad. Not only were they more work than the larger fields, but the yield was always lacking. The yield was low largely due to the amount of the crop that was devoured by the great herds of deer, bear and other wildlife that thought that these were planted for them. Now that I am in the business of helping people to raise wildlife and forests I look at these

huntingland: Keeping Your Forest Healthy and Productive
- 09/23/14 02:25 AM
Your Forest May Need a Little Help Landowners ask, why should I manage the forest on my property, the forest was here before I owned it and will be here after I am gone. That is true, but here are a few reasons why Forest land needs to be managed. Nature manages its forest at a slow rate, so in order to improve wildlife habitat, protect watershed, improve recreational value or yield maximum timber production, it needs to be helped along. Foresters guide the growth by cutting established trees and allowing new ones to grow in their place.

Jackson County Wisconsin UFO Landing Site, Fun Stuff You Find on a Forest Inventory You don’t often see UFO landing sites that are nearly a mile in diameter, and had this one not been so large I might have missed it. A while back we were doing an inventory for Wisconsin’s largest private landowner on about 30,000 acres of their forest land that they were considering selling. Before heading into an area we do spend a bit of time on planning; analyzing GIS photos, maps, and more to determine the best access points, travel routes, timelines, and number of

huntingland: forestry camp monico

We keep our projects profitable for all while saving our clients dollars by being highly efficient. One of our efficiency tools is to keep the crew very close to the project, cutting travel costs as well as lodging costs. This camp is located in the center of a block of 10,000 acres of prime oak and Northern Hardwoods in NE Wisconsin. If you know of anyone looking for an exception crew of Foresters to inventory, appraise or manage a forest.... Remember, when only the best will do, count on the WMS crew.

Forestry Camp on the Argonne Audit Cruise One of the things that I like about these Audit Inventories it that we stay in one remote area long enough to set up a camp. On this project we had 5 people camped out in 1 camper, 2 vehicles and 1 tent. We found out after se tting up this camp along an old logging road that someone else thought that it would also be a good plac to set up a bear baiting station 50 yards further down the trail. The Bears kept
