huntingland: Wood County Wis Forest Land Report December 2016
- 12/18/16 11:05 PM
Whitetail Deer & Turkey Haven in Quality Pine Forests of Wood County Wisconsin! MARKET SNAPSHOT At first glance you may think of Wood County as being rather urban with two cities at each end of the county, but it is a very heavily forested wild place everywhere inbetween. It is a great place to raise pines which is one of the reasons why you see the Wisconsin River lined with paper mills in this region. Our clients at Woodland Management Service own a fair amount of forest land in this county and they are impressed with the bountiful wildlife and timber here. Wood

Adams County, Sand County along the Wisconsin River, teaming with Wildlife and Forests When Aldo Leopold wrote 'A Sand County Almanac' he was sitting on his sandy tree farm just a few miles down river from here in Sauk County, but the terrain is about the same, miles of Pines, Oaks and other forests all growing on a flat sandy plain. It is a great place to raise pines which is one of the reasons why you see the Wisconsin River lined with paper mills just a few miles north of here. Just to the south of this county we find the world

A Good Bench in The Woods; A Place to Relax and Ponder. I like to find a good bench in the woods, I think that it is important for solving the problems of the world and the problems in my life. Something about having a place to sit, soak up a little sun on a cool autumn day and think about things that need to be thought about. Find a bench in a forest near you, I think that you will be glad that you did. If you need help finding a bench or a forest, let me know, I would be glad to help. Bob

huntingland: Make Your Hunting Land a Wildlife Magnet!
- 10/14/16 04:56 PM
FAQ How do I Encourage More Wildlife on My Land? This is a common question that the Foresters and Wildlife Specialists at Woodland Management Service are asked. Of course the next question that we ask the client is, “What type of Wildlife would you like to encourage?” Regardless of which type of Wildlife they are looking for we know that the most important key to maximum Wildlife Habitat is “Edge”. Edge is basically the area between two or more ecosystems (timber types, timber ages, non forested areas, wetlands, etc.). It is our job to know which Edge types are

Its that time of year again when folks are looking for that perfect parcel of hunting land. Important to find a great agent like William Feela and a great Forester like those at Woodland Management Service! You are looking for hunting land, so are you using a Realtor that know about hunting and hunting lands. Not all hunting lands are created equal. There are lands that are great for Deer. Some are great for bear. Others small game and still some for waterfowl. I you are using a non-hunting agent, how do you know if they know the best hunting lands for

huntingland: Ticks are Still Active, Check for Ticks After Those Fall Walks
- 09/23/16 04:01 PM
Remember the Ticks are Still Active, Don't Forget to Check for Ticks After Those Fall Walks. I took a break to go look at a woods today with one of my Foresters and came back with nearly a dozen tiny little Deer Ticks. Whether you are hunting, hiking or just looking at rural properties, it is good to remember that these fellows are still active and looking for victims. Deer Ticks are tiny and hard to see but they are the dangerous ones, so it pays to do a tick check, get your clothes in the washer, and jump in the shower soon after

Great Hunting Land! 3 Secret Ingredients
Deer like most wildlife species spend most of their time in what we call Edge areas. These Edge areas are basically the place where the Three Essentials of all Wildlife Habitat exist; Food, Water, and Cover. If you understand these essentials, how they apply to Whitetail Deer, and have them on your land then the deer will stay on your land. Water In this part of the country, water is seldom a problem with plentiful wetlands, ponds, streams, lakes and puddles just about everywhere. In the event that you do not have any water nearby, it won’t take much for us

huntingland: Do You Have Your Hunting Land Secured Yet?
- 09/07/16 04:56 PM
Do You Have Your Hunting Land Secured Yet? Time is running short for those looking for that perfect place to hunt this year. Though many have already found their bit of Wildlife Paradise, for those who have not, it is still not too late. A few things to consider when seeking your hunting land: Proximity to your home Some want it close enough to get out there after work. Others want it far enough away that they will not be disturbed. What type of hunting do you want to do? Deer, Turkey, Waterfowl, Small Game, etc. All of these game animals have their preferences

huntingland: Neglecting your Forest Seldom an option for Wildlife & Forest Health
- 06/17/16 04:34 PM
Neglecting your Forest is Seldom the best option for Wildlife and Forest Health Leaving your forest alone is seldom the best option for either wildlife habitat or a healthy forest. An unmanaged forest will become stagnant reducing the amount of food for wildlife and crowding out the younger trees which are important for the next generation of the forest. Most wildlife requires a diverse forest with varied ages and types of trees for both food and shelter. And a healthy sustainable forest requires various ages of trees to enable future generations. huntingland: FAQ Do I need a Timber Appraisal when Buying & Selling Forestland?
- 06/14/16 08:07 AM
FAQ Do I need a Timber Appraisal when Buying and Selling Forestland? It depends... Do you want to take advantage of tax programs such as the Timber Depletion Allowance? When buying forestland is essential to know your basis, especially the basis of your timber, this allows for a significant tax break when it comes time to sell any timber from the property, and the value of this basis must be determined as of the day that you become the owner of the property. Do you want your banker to consider the whole value of the property when considering your mortgage? Why miss out

Selling Rural Land? Learn to Read and Write Property Legal Descriptions We work with a lot of Real Estate Agents in evaluating, finding and helping sell forestland and one of my pet peeves has always been a lack of proper training my most professionals in writing proper legal descriptions. A proper legal description allows anybody who reads it to quickly locate the property on a map as well as on the ground. Our Forestry and Wildlife professionals learn to read and write legal description in college but for most of our clerical staff the first lesson they need to learn is

huntingland: LEASING HUNTING LAND; INCOME FOR LANDOWNERS, WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT TOOL
- 04/03/16 04:35 PM
LEASING HUNTING LAND; INCOME FOR LANDOWNERS, WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT TOOL FOR WILDLIFE BIOLOGISTS, AND GREAT LAND FOR HUNTERS. —By leasing out their land, woodland owners may be able to profit from the rich tradition of hunting that exists in Wisconsin. An untapped source of income could exist on property that sustains wildlife. Having exclusive access to private land during hunting season is a price that many hunters are willing to pay. Leasing out deer hunting rights will not only increase a hunter’s chance of success, but the lease payments could be enough to cover landowners’ property taxes. The payments
