window treatments: I Love What You've Done With The Place! - 04/07/09 10:31 AM
I've long admired your house and your renovation/purchase of this family home will work so well for you!   I love the crown molding in your living room; it sets that paint color off so nicely.  I love how the rooms flow into each other and you can pretty much see from the front door straight to the back.  I think it's great how you set up a nice computer station in the family room.   And that plasma TV, over the fireplace, I wanted to do the same thing in my house.
I love how your home office gets that light from … (10 comments)

Custom window treatments not only help keep out the drafts in the winter but can help block the hot rays of the sun in summer.  With custom window treatments you can get the fabric and design of your choice.  An added benefit is that you can get a black-out lining on custom window treatments.  This works well for those that work the night shift or for your home theatre experience.
Custom window treatments afford you the opportunity to choose a fabric that will work in your home, whether solid or patterned, as well as various trims that … (4 comments)

Due to the abundance of information on window treatments, this post will be in two parts.
Window treatments -- besides "color" these two words alone can strike fear into the hearts of homeowners.  When you think about all the choices to make about window treatments - material, fabric, color, size, options and hardware, it's not surprising that many new homeowners still have paper shades on their windows five years later.  However, if you break it down, deciding what kind of window treatments to use on your windows can be a stress-free decision.

window treatments: October Is Window Covering Safety Month - 09/30/08 11:18 PM
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Counsel (CPSC) since 1990 approximately 200 infants and young children have died from accidentally strangling in window cords.   Window Fashions Certified Professional Associate, Kathy Passarette of Creative Home Expressions (a Long Island based interior decorating firm), urges parents to follow the suggestions of the Window Covering Safety Counsel (WCSC) and only use cordless window products in young children's bedrooms and sleeping areas.  Owners and renters should replace all window coverings in the home made before 2001 with today's safer products.
The WCSC is dedicated to providing consumer information and educational materials on window-cord safety.  … (6 comments)

Thanks to Julea Joseph and her recent post on window treatments (http://activerain.com/blogsview/315492/Window-Treatments-Large-Window) I thought I'd post one of my own recent completions.
This job came about through our newspaper here on Long Island (Newsday), when they decided to do a feature in May of this year on "The Empty Room".  I was one of three decorators that worked with a couple of families to help them with empty rooms in their homes.  Whether it was the kids were grown and moved out, or people who moved into new homes and just didn't know what to do with the rooms.  The feature only … (19 comments)
