lake norman: Lake Norman I-77 traffic problems - 10/19/12 07:09 AM

Over the past several months, you’ve probably heard about plans to widen Interstate 77 using toll lanes.
Like you, I was thrilled with the idea that any lane – even a toll lane – would help reduce the awful traffic tie-ups we see on I-77 every weekday. But the more I look into this, the more I’m convinced toll lanes are a bad idea.
First, toll lanes won’t solve I-77’s traffic problems.
Drivers will pay to use the toll lane only when the free lanes are congested. No congestion, no toll revenue.
Right now, the plan is to have the … (0 comments)

lake norman: Lake Norman area Langtree developer gives new life to old dreams - 08/28/12 10:52 PM
From the aerial point of view of an osprey cruising one of Lake Norman's many coves for a possible nesting spot, the torn-up earth near Mooresville's Exit 31 looks far from hospitable.
Acres of exposed red clay are dotted with pieces of massive earth-moving equipment, and concrete and steel structures have punched up from the dirt like skeletal fingers uncovered in an archeological dig.
Inhospitable, indeed. For an osprey.
But to Steve Welly, it looks like the beginnings of mixed-used heaven on earth — Langtree at the Lake.
"We've been developing property for more than 35 years and, frankly, felt this … (0 comments)

Officials from San Bernardino County and two of its cities have formed a local agency to consider the plan. Securities industry representatives have been quick to register their displeasure and say it will only make loans harder to get. Lake Norman, Huntersville, Mooresville, Davidson, Charlotte and more.

Tiffany Lindsay, president and resident equine specialist at the nonprofit equine assisted therapy organization, spent most of her life around horses before she discovered how healing they can be.
“I always knew horses were very intuitive, but until I started doing this, I didn’t realize how intuitive they are,” Lindsay said, watching four of her horses socialize with kids through the fence before the start of a group session.

lake norman: Lake Norman won't get new weed-eating fish this year - 06/21/12 09:08 AM

A national shortage of grass carp means Lake Norman will not be receiving any new fish this year, but experts don’t think that will cause a setback in the fight against hydrilla.
At least 1,200 sterile grass carp are usually stocked in the lake each year to eat hydrilla, an invasive aquatic weed that can interfere with boating, swimming and fishing. However, fewer of the non-reproducing fish are available this year in the U.S., and only three smaller lakes in North Carolina will be receiving any.
“The major reason (for the shortage) is the huge number of fish … (0 comments)
