NASCAR HQ may be in Daytona * where the France family originally established the sport * however the HEART is in North Carolina around the Charlotte area where the new NASCAR Hall of Fame was just opened. Many of the drivers live around the Lake Norman area and have second homes in Florida or around their individual business interests such as Tony Stewart's home in Indiana and Matt Kenseth's home in Wisconsin. richard petty: Lynda Petty diagnosed with nervous system lymphoma - 02/04/10 11:44 PM
Lynda Petty, wife of 7-time NASCAR champ Richard Petty, has been diagnosed with nervous system lymphoma which is a type of cancerous brain tumor.
A press release issued by Richard Petty Motorsports indicates she is being treated at Duke Medical Center which is about 65 miles from the Pettys' home in Level Cross, NC.
Lynda had been having problems with her eyesight and now that the diagnoses has been confirmed it is expected that the CNS will respond favorably with radiotherapy or chemotherapy or both.

STATESVILLE, N.C. -- Lynda Petty, wife of NASCAR legend Richard Petty, will undergo a medical procedure Friday to determine the underlying cause of an ongoing medical condition.
"My family has always been my number one priority. I hate to miss any racing or racing-related event but at this time being with my wife Lynda is where I need to be," Richard Petty said.
The Petty family is thankful for the support from family, friends, fans, and all those in the racing community and asks for the continued respect for their privacy during this time.

In his "message from the Chair"...Schaefer Ogelsby mentions that at the VAR Property Managers Coalition in Natural Bridge last October, he realized that many VA property managers do not know the state laws regarding smoke detectors.....the following is the code section he references
 § 15.2-922. Smoke detectors in certain buildings.
Any locality, notwithstanding any contrary provision of law, general or special, may by ordinance require that smoke detectors be installed in the following structures or buildings: (i) any building containing one or more dwelling units, (ii) any hotel or motel regularly used or offered for, or intended to be used to provide overnight … (3 comments)
