"A thankful heart is not only the greatest virtue, but the parent of all other virtues" - CiceroHappy Thanksgiving to one and all!  We hope that you have a wonderful day with friends and family.Did You Know? When the Mayflower reached Plymouth Rock on December 21, 1620 there were 102 passengers:  52 men, 18 women, 32 children - plus several dogs and cats.  In the 16th century, cats were routinely kept on ships to protect the limited food supplies from rodents.  And it's been documented that some of the families brought their family pets - both dogs and … (2 comments)

pets: How to Keep Your Pets Safe in San Luis Obispo County - 09/05/10 04:34 PM

Recently our community was in an uproar about the plight of "Annie", the border collie who had been adopted by a local family.  Seems Annie belonged to "Chuck" and he had lost her a few weeks ago.   She had no name tag or chip and I'm not sure of all the particulars but the local citizens marched in downtown with signs to return the dog to her "first" owner.  There were numerous letters to the local newspaper, a radio talk show host took up Chuck and Annie's plight and folks were outraged.  After threatened violence toward the adopted famiy and after … (2 comments)

pets: Arroyo Grande Pet of the Week at Woods Humane Society CASEY !! - 05/28/10 04:00 PM
 C A S E Y

This week's pet of the week is Casey, a 3.5 year old Lhasa Apso who has called Woods Humane Society home since the beginning of May. Casey wears a silver and white coat, is neutered, vaccinated, micro chipped, and house trained. He is outgoing, affectionate, and loveable. Casey would do very well in a home with older considerate children. Casey is playful, friendly, and walks well on a leash. If you live in a smaller home or apartment, Casey just might be that big dog in a small package that you are looking for.

Diesel participates in the shelter’s offsite program and gets to leave with our volunteers for hikes up Bishop’s Peak and trips to the beach. Originating as a transfer from the county Animal Services Division, Diesel has advanced quickly through his obedience work and training. He absolutely loves human attention and actively seeks out … (0 comments)

pets: Placer SPCA's "SOS" Program is helping pets! - 01/09/10 10:59 AM

Placer SPCA's "SOS" Program is helping pets!

The Placer SPCA is providing assistance to Placer County residents that are having a tough time financially but are responsible caregivers.  Job losses and foreclosures have made it hard not just for people but also for pets.  How is the Placer SPCA's "SOS" Program helping?  They are helping pets and their owners stay together by providing temporary housing, helping with pet deposits for the owners that are moving into a rental, donating pet food and even offering veterinary treatments for animals with life threatening conditions.

For more information on this SOS Program, call (916) … (0 comments)

Holiday Safety Tips
Jolly, Jolly and Oh-So-Safe! Christmas is upon us once again and as much as we want to enjoy the holidays we must consider the hazards we may put in front of our most precious gift: our pets. As you celebrate this holiday season, try to keep your pet's eating and exercise habits as close to their normal routine as possible. And be sure to steer them clear of the … (1 comments)

pets: My new real estate assistant "Sugar" - 08/23/09 08:01 PM

I wrote last June about the loss of my beloved Roxie, my pompoo that was 17 years old.  She was my real estate assistant and would sit behind me on the credenza in her little bed and never leave my side.  When I worked too late into the night (like now), she would bark and bark at me to come to bed.  Yes I admit, we slept together.  She will always have a special place in my heart.  She was my first dog.
I began looking at the dogs on the net who needed to be rescued.  I thought I wanted an … (5 comments)

pets: Loss and Gain - 06/03/09 09:50 PM
On May 20, I had to say goodbye to my best friend for 17 years, my little white pom/poo Roxie.  What a sad day.  She was my real estate assistant and always rested in her doggie bed on the table behind my desk at my home office helping me prepare contracts and handle phone calls.  When we could get away, we would go for our walks which we both thoroughly enjoyed.  A friend sent me an article written December 17, 1940, from the perspective of the dog that has passed away.  A particular passage spoke to me.  It said:  "One last request I earnestly make.  I … (2 comments)
