running: Jacksonville Baldwin Rails To Trails Trail 11/19/11 - 11/19/11 05:46 AM
I test rode a Cannondale this morning with a friend on the Jax-Baldwin Rail Trail
I have never been to this trail before, and I have to say, I was amazed!
The trail is paved, so it's accessible for runners, cyclists, para-cyclists, and walkers.  A corridor is under development for both equestrians and mountain bikers.
A variety of wildlife, a wonderful sense of country  & Old Florida abounds along the trail.
The trail runs 14.5 miles, and we managed part of it, not all of it, due to a late start.
There are numerous rails to trails projects across the country.  … (2 comments)

running: When Plans Change.....How Do You React? - 10/07/11 01:46 PM
We've all been there.
We planned for something, put it on our calendars, prepared for it, maybe trained for it, budgeted for it.
And, then, it does not come to fruition, for whatever reason
This weekend, I was supposed to be in a sprint triathlon on Jekyll Island, about a hour north of Jacksonville Beach, FL, and had a few friends going with me.
One friend was participating in the sprint tri, the other two were there for moral support and to cheer us on during the race.
We had this planned since the last sprint tri I did in July, … (0 comments)

running: When Is It "Real" & When Is It Not? - 09/12/11 01:15 AM
I'm training for my second sprint triathlon, coming up quickly in early October on Jekyll Island, GA.
The swimming has been going very well (please notice, I refrained from typing swimmingly!), I joined a pool close to my office, and have been swimming at least 1/2 a mile in the pool a couple of times per week, and have done a mile a few time (36 laps in a 25 yard pool, in case you were curious).
The cycling portion is the easiest for me; I drop into a spin class once or twice a week, I'm still working on getting … (6 comments)

running: Triathlon Training Update, 5/31/11 - 05/31/11 02:49 AM
As some of you may be aware, in order to challenge myself, I decided on 4/29 as I went through security at my local airport in Jacksonville, FL, to persuade a friend to do a sprint triathlon with me on 7/9/11.
I have been doing pretty well with my training, working out almost every day, and doing the "brick" workouts, which are cycling followed by running.
I biked to the gym yesterday (about 2 miles each way) and ran/walked at the gym for about 30 minutes.
Today is a pool day, and that has been the toughest part, as I don't … (1 comments)

running: My Monday Morning "Event" - 05/10/11 09:47 AM
As some of you know, I have decided to challenge myself with a sprint triathlon in July (a mere 8 weeks from this Saturday, and 2 weeks shorter than the 12 week timeframe I'm following).
Sunday I bought "real" running shoes, something I've never had before as I don't really like running.  Also on Sunday, I cycled for an hour (yes on the beach, and yes on a beach cruiser, but still, it was a solid 60 minutes of pedaling, no real "cruising" here!).
Yesterday, I went running at the gym.
Or, tried to. The car, fresh back from the mechanic's … (7 comments)
