colorado: Is Mine Bigger Than Yours? - 10/31/13 03:30 PM
~ Is Mine Bigger Than Yours? ~

I just have one question.  Is mine bigger than yours?  I know it's a crazy question, but a fair one!  It's November now and winter is coming soon.  The weather is changing and the leaves on the trees have gone from green to the beautiful bright colors of fall.  If your area is like mine, here in Centennial, Colorado, most of the leaves on the trees and bushes have since left their branches and have fallen to the ground.
This afternoon, I spent the better part of the day raking the fallen leaves.  … (4 comments)

The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) has determined that for every $1 invested in public transportation, $4 are generated in economic returns.  The APTA has also estimated that individuals living in major urban area are saving over $9500 per year by using public transportation instead of driving.  Public transportation can improve the quality of life in a city.  It can be a way to travel to jobs, school, entertainment, visit local attractions and help get one to health care facilities.
In order to rank the cities, criteria such as number of safety incidents, money … (8 comments)

~ Singing in the Rain ~
As I write this post, I am exactly 100 points behind the leader for Aurora, Colorado and Arapahoe County.  When I signed up in October of 2009, I had no idea what I was getting into.  I wrote my first post in November.  By the end of 2009, I had written 5 posts and still wasn't quite sure of what I was doing.  With some valuable help from Ruth Vogt of WR Starkey Mortgage, in January I took on the challenge of learning to blog.
The first contest I entered was the Under The Kitchen Sink … (21 comments)

colorado: Pay It Forward - In Little Packages - 02/05/11 10:55 AM
~ Pay It Forward - In Little Packages ~
As many of you know, I am very close with my neighbors and I tried to pay it forward in a little package.  My neighbor has a little 1 year old.  I told her if she ever needed me to watch her little one, to make her appointments on a Thursday, that way I would be available.  So, yesterday, I had the joy of spending some time with a laughing and drooling toddler.  He is about ready to start walking.  He pulls himself up quite easily and can walk while holding on … (9 comments)

colorado: What Happens If Refiance Money is Stolen? - 01/25/11 09:00 AM
~ What Happens If Refinance Money is Stolen? ~
What happens if refinance money is stolen?  Can the homeowners be liable?  When a homeowner decides to refinance their home, a title company will be involved in the transaction through the refinance company to coordinate the paperwork, pay off all parties involved, record and release Deeds of Trust, etc.
I am referring to a recent story in the business section of the Denver Post.  A couple was refinancing their home through Bank A and paying off their current mortgage with Bank B.  The couple signed all their paperwork at the title company for the new loan.  … (9 comments)

colorado: Why Do I Need a Home Inspection? I'm Buying New Construction. - 01/07/11 10:52 AM
~ Why Do I Need A Home Inspection?  I'm Buying New Construction. ~
I have heard this often, "I am buying new construction.  I don't need a home inspection."   Buyers think that when they purchase a newly constructed home. they would be wasting money paying for a home inspection.  That is far from the truth.  Remember, builders are humans also.  And humans can, and do make mistakes.  Yes, the city and county inspectors do check the property.  But it is a visual inspection and not as thorough as a home inspector goes through the house.
A home inspector is an unbiased pair of eyes checking the mechanicals, … (8 comments)

~ Baby, It's Cold Outside, I Mean Inside! ~
I went to bed last last.  All was well.  I snuggled into my bed, underneath the electric blanket.  It was a good thing.  This morning when I woke up, my house was a cold 55 degrees!  Yep, you heard me....55 degrees.  Brrrrrr!
I layered myself in clothing.  I then went down in the basement to find out the problem.  The igniter wouldn't stay lit.  More money out the door...and it's going to be overtime as well!  Crap!  And now, I have to stay home and wait for the service guy to arrive.  … (17 comments)
