dana hollish hill: Your Undivided Attention
- 11/03/23 09:10 PM
I'm expanding upon an ActiveRain post I wrote in 2015 where I listed 20 things I learned tending bar. While most ring true today, this lesson is a harder one to relate to real estate completely because I got married before I became a REALTOR® So today's post focuses on the third of twenty lessons. Lesson #3: Never date a customer or clientAs a bartender, you control the drinks and the cash register on behalf of the bar owner. Customers will flirt, beg, and make all kinds of promises to get a drink on the house and you have to be firm. Your tips are

I'm expanding upon an ActiveRain post I wrote in 2015 where I listed 20 things I learned tending bar. While the list still rings true, I'd like to expand on each of the 20 lessons a bit more. I also realized that these lessons were accumulated through many service jobs I've taken on, including as a waitress at a New Jersey Diner (Golden Coach), at a New Jersey bagel shop (Bagel Town) and at an restaurant/ice cream shop in DC (Swensen's). Sadly, all three of these businesses are no longer around, but the lessons I took from them live on in

dana hollish hill: First Impressions are Crucial
- 09/01/23 07:08 AM
I recently re-read an ActiveRain post I wrote in 2015 where I listed 20 things I learned tending bar. In reflection, the list still rings true to me, but I wish I had taken the time to expand on each of the 20 lessons a bit more. I also realized that these lessons were accumulated through many service jobs I've taken on, including as a waitress at a New Jersey Diner (Golden Coach), at a New Jersey bagel shop (Bagel Town) and at an restaurant/ice cream shop in DC (Swensen's). dana hollish hill: Life's Lessons: Learning through Service
- 08/31/23 04:56 PM
Learning by ServingA real estate career begins with a pretty steep learning curve. First you realize that all that information you learned to get your real estate license didn't really teach you the step-by-step, day-to-day skills, practices, and scripts you'll need to find buyers and sellers, write contracts, analyze properties, or close deals. As a coach of new agents, I work to distill a lot of information into bite-size pieces, bullet points or checklists for my students. When I decided to write a post about life's lessons, I immediately thought about an ActiveRain post I'd written in 2015 with 20 lessons I

dana hollish hill: Why Should You Hire Dana Hollish Hill?
- 07/11/23 04:20 PM
Are you looking for an agent who makes your wants and needs her highest priority? In the Metro DC Area there are thousands of REALTORs you could hire to help you sell your current home or buy another one. So, Why Should You Hire Me, Dana Hollish Hill?Because I'm exceptional. Look, I know how that sounds. Let me say that in my 20+ years as a REALTOR, I've yet to encounter a potential seller or buyer who lists "humble" as something they want or need in their next real estate agent. In fact, my clients don't even have to like me. They hire me, refer me, re-hire

dana hollish hill: What is your favorite house style?
- 06/05/23 08:34 AM
When my husband and I were buying our first home, we knew more about what we didn't want in a home, than what we did. We were living in a one-bedroom, 4th story walk-up apartment in downtown DC with two cats. The litter boxes were in the only bathroom, which we shared with our guests. Finding parking for our 2 cars was usually challenging, but we were close to a metro stop, so we had access to the whole DC Metro Area. Searching by Process of Elimination So what I figured we wanted was a detached home in DC, MD or Northern VA

dana hollish hill: What is the best way for a new REALTOR® to find leads?
- 04/21/23 01:55 PM
Many people are talking about AI, and to be honest, I'm a little nervous about how this whole thing will play out. The other day my husband told me that NASA has lost the ability to build the huge old rockets that were used in the past. They have to build new ones in stages like SpaceX is doing. I'm wondering if this Is because kids rely on calculators and no longer do calculations by hand or use slide rules like they did in our race to the moon. (I'm way to young, but I've seen slide rules in space movies) Let's be

dana hollish hill: Maryland Real Estate Market Update - April 2023
- 04/21/23 10:20 AM
Maryland Real Estate Market Update - April 2023 Is this a spring market? The weather outside feels like spring, and the spring market is slowly easing its way in for 2023. Low inventory means that people are waiting to win a home before putting theirs on the market and we have a delay of sorts. There are also buyers who are hesitant - whether the interest rates put a wrench in their search or the lack of things to look at makes them want to wait, the common phrase we've been hearing is, "I love it! Let me know if anyone else is making

dana hollish hill: In honor of Jimmy Carter...
- 04/11/23 09:31 AM
In Honor of Jimmy CarterI was saddened to hear that Jimmy Carter was going into hospice. Whether you agree with his politics or approved of his job as President of the United State, I think most people agree that Jimmy Carter is a good person. His work with Habitat for Humanity has always been an inspiration to me. When I was a high school kid in New Jersey, my church group spent a weekend volunteering in Trenton. We worked in the soup kitchen, organized clothes in the donation closet, and because we weren't old enough to build, we worked to rip out

What's TrendingNotice that New Listings and Pending Sales are up this month over last month, but both are down compared to last year. Closed Sales are down from last month, and from last year. dana hollish hill: Maryland Real Estate Market Update - December 2022
- 01/17/23 10:46 AM
Curious about the real estate Market? Since I'm getting tons of questions about it, I think you are! The deluge of news about interest rates and recession have made many buyers take a pause. Let's take a look at what's been happening in Maryland in the month of December. When you look at December 2022 compared to December 2021, you'll notice that the number of homes that sold is down by 41.9% which is a significant difference. The average sales price is about the same as a year ago increasing by only 0.2%. It appears that the number of homes under contract, the number

dana hollish hill: Donate to Cancer Research this Giving Tuesday
- 11/29/22 06:47 PM
It's #GivingTuesdayYou know. After Thanksgiving, and Black Friday, there's Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, and then...Giving Tuesday. It's day to donate to charities. Well, I'm involved with a service sorority that raises money for cancer research. Each chapter raises money and then we have a national convention where we vote on doctors doing revolutionary research and we give them money to work toward cures. Last year we raised and awarded $380,000 to 6 doctors. My sisters made a video about why we joined Phi Beta Psi. Perhaps you'll consider making a tax-deductible donation today. Thank you in advance, Dana Upsilon Gamma Chapter of Phi Beta Psi

dana hollish hill: Maryland Real Estate - Market Update for October 2022
- 11/21/22 10:40 AM
Curious about what's happening in real estate? I know you are. Interest rates are up, and there are so many predictions in the media that it's difficult to know what is happening now. Believe me, it's not all doom and gloom. Let's focus on Maryland for a moment. As you can see, less units sold in October 2022 than in October 2021. Inventory has been very tight so that is not at all surprising. Both the average and median price increased this year over last year. Pending and Active listings are down as well. Again, not surprising. And the months of inventory is exactly

dana hollish hill: Homes Sell Fast in Falls Church
- 06/10/21 04:21 PM
This beautifully maintained Falls Church home went live Thursday and went Under Contract on Tuesday. My team of agents at JPAR Stellar Living did an excellent job getting this home ready, staged, photographed, marketed and SOLD. Although this is a seller's market due to the incredibly low inventory of homes for sale, this week we saw a lot more listings hit the market. Buyers had choices. Each spring the National Capital Area has a period of low inventory so what we're seeing is not unusual. However, this year it seemed longer. I suspect some of the delay had to do with concerns about

dana hollish hill: Finishing out 2018 with some FUN!
- 09/23/18 08:48 PM
It's all about natural lighting... Once the School Year starts and the deluge of back-to-school nights, volunteer requests, and homework begins, I know it won't be long until after work means DARK and a majority of my home showings will have to be during the day or on the weekend. Though it is possible to show a home in the dark, it's almost impossible for a buyer to make a decision on a home in the dark. Looking forward to the fourth quarter and there are a lot of things planned for Hollish Hill Group and they definitely revolve around holidays. Halloween - a spooktacular event Halloween is
