dc real estate: What is your favorite house style?
- 06/05/23 08:34 AM
When my husband and I were buying our first home, we knew more about what we didn't want in a home, than what we did. We were living in a one-bedroom, 4th story walk-up apartment in downtown DC with two cats. The litter boxes were in the only bathroom, which we shared with our guests. Finding parking for our 2 cars was usually challenging, but we were close to a metro stop, so we had access to the whole DC Metro Area. Searching by Process of Elimination So what I figured we wanted was a detached home in DC, MD or Northern VA

dc real estate: Donate to Cancer Research this Giving Tuesday
- 11/29/22 06:47 PM
It's #GivingTuesdayYou know. After Thanksgiving, and Black Friday, there's Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, and then...Giving Tuesday. It's day to donate to charities. Well, I'm involved with a service sorority that raises money for cancer research. Each chapter raises money and then we have a national convention where we vote on doctors doing revolutionary research and we give them money to work toward cures. Last year we raised and awarded $380,000 to 6 doctors. My sisters made a video about why we joined Phi Beta Psi. Perhaps you'll consider making a tax-deductible donation today. Thank you in advance, Dana Upsilon Gamma Chapter of Phi Beta Psi

dc real estate: Need Negotiation Advice?
- 06/20/18 01:10 PM
Inventory is low and buyers are out in full force competing in DC's hot seller's market. Many buyers are trying to go it alone without the help of a real estate professional. They are relying on data from the internet and anaecdotes they've heard from friends. What they really need is a real estate professional who knows how to negotiate. What Buyers Need In addition to needing help preparing their offers, buyers need help negotiating. And they should be looking to experienced agents to help them WIN their next home. Agents who are workig full time to understand that market, the trends, and the competition. There

dc real estate: Small Business Week in DC
- 05/04/18 06:24 AM
It's small business week. What are you doing to support small and local businesses? I've been highlighting some of the local business owners who are members of Tenleytown Main Street on my blog. To kick off the interviews, I posted a video. Over the next few weeks I posted my mini interviews. First I posted an interveiw with Raúl Echevarría of CommuniKids called Creating Global Citizens of Tomorrow. Next I posted my interview with Joseph Oh of Coffee Nature called Coffee That Doesn't Need Sugar. Then I posted my interview with Myrna Sislen of Middle C Music called Here At The Pleasure of the Neighborhood It has been a joy getting to know my business neighbors. If you are a

dc real estate: ...something new, something borrowed...
- 03/10/18 07:17 AM
Tenleytown Main Street Membership With all the media hype encouraging holiday shopping each year, most people know that the Friday after Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday. And with all the Internet ads you're probably aware that the Monday after Thanksgiving is known as Cyber Monday. Did you know that the Saturday after Thanksgiving is known as Small Business Saturday? Last October was a great month for my brokerage, my team, and for me. We had just launched our new office and joined a local business organization called Tenleytown Main Street. Last Small Business Saturday, Tenleytown Main Street organized a ribbon cutting, welcoming us to the neighborhood. I even got to hold the big

dc real estate: 20 Things I Learned Tending Bar
- 05/07/15 01:10 AM
When I was a bartender, I learned a lot of things about people, life, psychology, music, men, drunks, breaking up fights, mixing drinks and community. My ten years as a bartender at Mr. Eagan's in DC's Dupont Circle neighborhood really paid off because it has helped me in real estate. Here are just a few of the things I learned: Greet everyone with a smile. Give your clients what they want, if you can. Never date a customer or client. Always get paid in full. Some people will never trust you and there are some you shouldn't trust. You don't have to serve anyone you don't want

dc real estate: Busy Market in the DC Area
- 04/27/15 02:46 AM
Busy as a Bee here in DC Over the years I've spent on ActiveRain, I've learned how different climates have different corresponding slow markets and fast markets. For example, the summer may not be the best time to buy in the hotter parts of the country, while it is a great in the Northeast. In the DC Metropolitan Area, we have a busy spring and summer market. There are some competing factors, but weather plays a part. Most homes have the best curb appeal when all the flowers are in full bloom. The cherry blossoms, azalea, red buds, and tulips look great right now. The

dc real estate: Cup of Joe Report - Qualia Coffee House & Micro Roaster in Petworth
- 09/30/13 02:09 PM
Cup of Joe Report - Qualia Coffee House & Micro Roaster in Petworth I was driving to Petworth to show a property to a client for a second time and I was running a little early. I decided to roam around and see if I could find some coffee and I stumbled upon Qualia Coffeehouse. I found a parking spot right out front and went inside. There were a few people sitting at tables reading and drinking coffee. Seemed like any other coffee shop at first. I approached the counter and noticed several little stands with litttle white filters. They
