hollish hill group: Is your house ready for the cold weather?
- 03/02/20 11:11 AM
One winter weekend morning, my family was surprised by an early morning knock at the door. It was our neighbors who had noticed that the holly bush in front of our home looked like a giant ice sculpture. Our front hose bib had not been winterized and the pipe froze and burst. We were lucky that the leak was under our front porch and outside of our home. It could have been much worse. You want to avoid this happening... During most home inspections, I've heard the home inspector talk about winterizing the hose bibs of your home as part of home maintenance. Here is

hollish hill group: Finishing out 2018 with some FUN!
- 09/23/18 08:48 PM
It's all about natural lighting... Once the School Year starts and the deluge of back-to-school nights, volunteer requests, and homework begins, I know it won't be long until after work means DARK and a majority of my home showings will have to be during the day or on the weekend. Though it is possible to show a home in the dark, it's almost impossible for a buyer to make a decision on a home in the dark. Looking forward to the fourth quarter and there are a lot of things planned for Hollish Hill Group and they definitely revolve around holidays. Halloween - a spooktacular event Halloween is

hollish hill group: Need Negotiation Advice?
- 06/20/18 01:10 PM
Inventory is low and buyers are out in full force competing in DC's hot seller's market. Many buyers are trying to go it alone without the help of a real estate professional. They are relying on data from the internet and anaecdotes they've heard from friends. What they really need is a real estate professional who knows how to negotiate. What Buyers Need In addition to needing help preparing their offers, buyers need help negotiating. And they should be looking to experienced agents to help them WIN their next home. Agents who are workig full time to understand that market, the trends, and the competition. There

It's small business week. What are you doing to support small and local businesses? I've been highlighting some of the local business owners who are members of Tenleytown Main Street on my blog. To kick off the interviews, I posted a video. Over the next few weeks I posted my mini interviews. First I posted an interveiw with Raúl Echevarría of CommuniKids called Creating Global Citizens of Tomorrow. Next I posted my interview with Joseph Oh of Coffee Nature called Coffee That Doesn't Need Sugar. Then I posted my interview with Myrna Sislen of Middle C Music called Here At The Pleasure of the Neighborhood It has been a joy getting to know my business neighbors. If you are a

hollish hill group: Emergency Weather? - The Aftermath
- 03/20/18 02:55 PM
As someone who was born and raised in Northern Ohio, I am one of the many adults who cannot believe how many snow days my county allows each year. I feel like people get worked up into a frenzy each time a weather forecaster predicts the possibility of snow. Recent Emergency Weather I recently wrote an ActiveRain post titled Emergency Weather?, where I discuss waking up shocked that school was canceled and then slowly discover why. During that storm many homes were damaged by trees blown over by the wind, without power for several days, or inaccessible due to road closings and work crews. We lost power for a

Tenleytown Main Street Membership With all the media hype encouraging holiday shopping each year, most people know that the Friday after Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday. And with all the Internet ads you're probably aware that the Monday after Thanksgiving is known as Cyber Monday. Did you know that the Saturday after Thanksgiving is known as Small Business Saturday? Last October was a great month for my brokerage, my team, and for me. We had just launched our new office and joined a local business organization called Tenleytown Main Street. Last Small Business Saturday, Tenleytown Main Street organized a ribbon cutting, welcoming us to the neighborhood. I even got to hold the big

hollish hill group: Do you like looking at numbers?
- 01/14/18 09:37 AM
Adding it up If you're like me, you enjoy reading factoids, info-graphics and statistics. Especially when the numbers or results are relevant to you. If you are thinking about buying or selling a home in Virginia, and are curious to know what has been happening in the real estate market in Virginia and what the trends tell us. In Virginia, you have many of these statistics available to you online. I recently noticed that the National Association of Realtors links to state resources for housing statistics and Virginia's link goes to a great page with monthly and quarterly Market Reports. The latest report is for November 2017. Looking at the data These

hollish hill group: The Power of Words
- 01/05/18 08:56 PM
I recently heard a discussion of real estate agents focused on choosing the tagline or phrase that differentiates them from all the other agents. It made me think I should explain the process I went through and why I selected the words that make up the Hollish Hill Group tagline. There are so many words to choose from and it's difficult to decide how to describe who you are, what you do and what you offer is a clean and concise way. Take a look at my full post titled the Power of Words. I hope you enjoy it. If you have any quesions, feel free to give me a call. Dana

hollish hill group: Thankful for the Wonderful Walking Women
- 11/27/17 09:02 AM
I live in an amazing neighborhood. There are so many great things about living in Charred Oak Estates, a tree-lined neighborhood in West Bethesda. I was first attracted to this neighborhood by the large wooded lots. The winding roads, the circles and the hills were also appealing. In the spring, when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, the neighborhood looks and smells fantastic. The schools have very high ratings, it's convenient to a handful of grocery stores and shopping areas and you can get into Washington DC, or Virginia, or anywhere on the beltway easily. The thing I am most thankful for when it

- 10/26/17 08:38 AM
In September, I told you how I've changed the way I answer this question over my years in real estate. How's the Real Estate Market Right Now? It's a question that varies neighborhood by neighbor and also varies by housing type so it's typically difficult to answer it quickly and accurately. Here is a video that provides a very broad answer. This Month in Real Estate Here is a look at some national real estate data: As you can see, these numbers are national in focus. They may, or may not line up with the local real estate market in the DC Area, or in your

When you arrive at 4403 Westbook Lane in the Martin's Addition to Chevy Chase View in Kensington, Maryland you will find a beautifully maintained, brick cape cod home with a great stamped concrete driveway to the right. As you take the walkway to the front door, notice the newer roof with architectual shingles and and the deep front porch. Both the exterior and interior have recently been painted, including all trim. To the right, you can enter the separate dining room, which has wall space from
