PEARLAND, Texas -- All has not yet been decided for the Pearland City Council following its May election. The city will hold a run-off election June 25 to decide who will take Position Three.After the election on May 14, Susan I. Sherrouse had the most votes for that position with 1,186. The second place candidate, Tammy Dexter, received 891 votes. The City of Pearland is reporting that for three consecutive days (as of May 31), Pearland’s total daily water demands have exceeded 70% of the system’s available operating capacity. Therefore, in accordance with the City’s Water Conservation Plan, and due to on-going drought conditions, the City is implementing the Plan’s “Stage One Drought Response”, effective June 2. Residents are asked to voluntarily practice water conservation by minimizing or discontinuing non-essential water use. The world champion Pearland Oilers Football team has it’s victory parade time set. The Pearland Oilers will be honored with a parade on Jan. 8, 2011 starting at approximately 4:30PM. The Oilers will start the victory parade at FM 518 and Pearland Parkway and head towards the football stadium, “The Rig”. Then at 5:30 PM they will have a pep rally and the public is invited. The football team is the latest Pearland team to win a state title. The Lady Oilers softball team also won state and the Pearland Little League finished second in the nation. Pearland High School has been moved back to District 24-5A.The district will include schools from Alvin, Brazoswood and Dickinson. This realignment is similar to the set up from years 2006-2008.
In the current alignment, Pearland is with the Pasadena ISD schools, Deer Park and La Porte in 22-5A.
Pearland Dawson and Manvel high schools remain in District 24-4A, which has Friendswood, La Marque, Santa Fe and Texas City. The district lost powerhouse Angleton and Brazosport, which went with District 23-4A and added Ball, which dropped from 5A.
