florida: Summer Road Trip (Part II) - 08/01/07 09:28 AM
As we were leaving Dallas, the highway traffic opened up quite a bit. We were passing some cattle and horse farms. Nice drive...
After a while it got kind of boring.. Very few cars... Some people hitch hiking... THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (the movie) came to mind...
Now some Texans say that indeed that event took place in the 70's. Others say that the incident was true, but it took place on the Louisiana border and Hollywood producers picked the state of Texas for extra creepiness. Whom to believe? I don't know, but some areas that we passed were kind of creepy... I … (8 comments)

florida: Real Estate Detective Work or AC UNIT Went OUT...What do I do? - 07/06/07 07:00 AM
So this morning, one of my sellers called telling me that AC unit in the condo that she is renting for the summer went out a few days ago and nobody came out to fix it after numerous phone calls. "What do I do? I don't want to pay rent for the unit with no AC working. It's summer... It's hot in Florida" she said. The voice mail of the property management lady says that she is out of the office with no specific date of when she will be back.  My friend doesn't know the address of the property management company. … (6 comments)

florida: Happy Father's Day, Papa! - 06/15/07 06:08 AM
I can't believe we are already in the middle of June and this Sunday is Father's Day.
I want to take time to talk about my dad. He is a man of few words, but when he talks he really has something to say. He taught me many things in life including that I should be the best I can be at any given time.
I was about 10-11 years old. Growing up in Russia, PE (Physical Education) meant in order to pass the class you had to do some physical exercises including running (1km, 3km, 5km), gymnastics like parallel bars, uneven bars, … (6 comments)

If you never seen strong rip currents of the Atlantic Ocean, it's quite a view.
Click on the You-tube video to hear the wind from the ocean and see the waves level. It is quiet something. Every now and then we get it here in Daytona Beach, where the winds get as strong as 30mph. We may be experiencing this weather until the end of the week. Then, it's back to normal.

florida: What Makes a House a Home-Daytona Beach, Florida - 05/22/07 09:43 AM
What Makes a House a Home?
That may seem like an easy question to answer, but for me it was always a touching subject. When I left Russia to study in Settle during school breaks, I would always go back "home"to see my family in Russia. The places where I lived in Seattle were just "Placement Stations", they were never my homes. Don't get me wrong, I loved Seattle. Its beauty and metropolitan lifestyle are fun, but there is nothing like Daytona Beach, Florida.
Life in Daytona Beach is very different and I truly feel at home here. You ask how the home I … (16 comments)

florida: Buyer Be Aware... or the Problem of MOLD in Florida... - 05/17/07 09:10 AM
On a FARBAR contract that is most frequently used in Florida it clearly states on line 80 that "Mold is naturally occurring and may cause health risks or damage to the property. If Buyer is concerned or desires additional information regarding mold, Buyer should contact an appropriate professional".
Here is a bit of a  clarification on mold:
Mold is a fungus that thrives in moist, dark environments. In many cases it is harmless and can be cleaned with a bleach and water solution, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. When left to germinate and spread, however, mold … (2 comments)

florida: Insurance Break for Commercal Property Owners in Florida.... Horray........ - 05/16/07 03:44 AM
Insurance Issues continued....
After a massive distraction from the hurricanes  that took place a few years ago in Louisiana and Alabama and continuing fires in California and Georgia, insurance companies are not that eager to step up to the plate. Instead they pick and choose what they want to insure. When two years ago All-State said that they are not writing hazard insurance policies for properties in Florida, it was shocking to a lot of people here and many of them were under a lot of pressure to find coverage for their homes.
The other night on the Tonight Show, Jay Leno … (4 comments)

florida: See Manatees in Blue Springs State Park, Florida - 01/09/07 04:31 AM
BLUE SPRING STATE PARKMANATEESThe spring is much more than a scenic area for canoeing and swimming; it plays a vital role in the survival of one of Florida's most beleaguered residents -- the manatee. Visitors can learn more about this endangered animal through ranger interpretive programs. A chair accessible observation platform provides a view of the endangered mammals that gather at the spring during the cooler months of the year. From November through March, the manatees leave the colder waters of the St. Johns River for the safety and comfort of the 72-degree spring.
