The change is part of a series of increased boat driver expectations implemented by the Virginia Department of Games and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF). An increasingly popular and busy lake like Smith Mountain Lake is safer and more enjoyable when boat drivers understand traffic laws, safety requirements and, more importantly, abide by them while on the water.
