I am a lucky and blessed man! I get to live, work and travel around The Villages, Florida and this week I did it a lot. For those of you that live here you get it, for those considering living here and never been here or maybe stayed for a short visit you have no idea just how big this place is. Lunch this week at Fenney Grille and Panera’s in Lake Sumter Landing, walked around First Responders Rec Center, visited the Brownwood Hotel, spent time at Southern Trace, Spanish Springs, Mulberry Grove and today have a meeting close to Sawgrass.

Rotary Club of the Villages Home & Garden, Chili Cook off and Craft Beer Tasting Event
The Rotary Club of the Villages will be hosting their biggest fundraising event of the year on February 3rd at Lake Sumter Landing. They are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the original chili cook off held in 1999. That event was a grand success and motivated the club to make it an annual event.
The club, since its origin of hosting the Chili Tasting contest, has added a Home and Garden portion consisting of exhibitors from the area and a Craft Beer Tasting that includes 27 brewers … (14 comments)

Back to where it all began in The Villages, Florida! Before there was Lake Sumter, Brownwood, Sawgrass and soon to be Eastport there was Spanish Springs. The original square has never lost its swagger in my opinion and the developer has been sure to keep investing and upgrading the square. The Sharon, new restaurants, Blonde’s coming soon the list goes on and I believe we need a party to celebrate!

The past few weeks hasn’t been Chamber of Commerce days here in The Villages. We hit 32 degrees Saturday night, has been overcast, rain and drizzle so maybe just maybe our winter is done. December and January can remind us we have a week or two of winter here but normally by February the freeze warning is done and we get back to our normal Florida weather. I feel for those who rented the month of January or visited family and friends, come back next month and pack your shorts!

Oh, yes just ride around The Villages, Florida. All driveways here are concrete and people aren’t happy with just concrete, we not only have painted driveways but driveways with murals, compasses even house numbers painted on the concrete not to mention painted borders, two tone driveways and then there are the paver driveways!
I must admit I have driveway envy not to just keep up with the neighbors rather mine is shot. Cracks, one section is slightly heaved, whatever coating they put on it years ago is gone, don’t like the shape and it is ugly. I also need to connect … (13 comments)

Saturday morning, we had an appointment at the southern tip of The Villages actually in Coleman a small town on the south border. Done with the appointment and it is 12:30, need lunch, question now is where? Fenney Grill from Farm to Table was the choice, I believe the southernmost dining option in The Villages. The place was busy maybe because people wanted to get to where they would be watching football later in the day. The Reuben caught my attention and it was a great choice, Michelle had the Grilled Chicken and Swiss with Sauteed Mushrooms and was very happy.

This week a family member needed a ride to an eye appointment and I offered to drive. We walked in and the receptionist said the doctor was expected to arrive in about 30 minutes and the appointment would take about 30 minutes so I had some time on my hands. The appointment was at the Spanish Plaines Plaza which is next to the hospital on US 441. Let’s see we started with what you want as far as Lifestyle which helps decide location so step three the home. Will it be block stucco or vinyl or doesn’t it matter? Three bedrooms or two? When you have a community of 155,000 people living in the same area from all over the country it is not surprising we probably have NFL fans for all 32 teams! With the playoffs starting some of those fans are on a mission to find just the right sports bar to watch the games. There is one place that is overtaken by the Buffalo Bills Mafia and that is McCall’s Tavern in Spanish Springs. Did you know many Villagers purchase three homes while living in The Villages, Florida? That is amazing when you consider the average age of a Villager buying a home is somewhere in the 60’s. The reasons vary but let me share what I see the most. Yes, we have a winter in The Villages, Florida and we are about to have it. Normally we have 4 or 5 days a year where the temperatures hit 32 degrees or below freezing. According to The Weather Channel we have one scheduled for Saturday the 20th with a low of 32 degrees the next 15 days. We do have a few days of highs only in the 50’s but most day’s highs in the mid to upper 60’s. The other day I watched an inspirational video about baseball mitts and I can’t stop thinking about it. I decided to plug my life in to explain. As a teenager, I bought a baseball glove, of course it needed broke in, it was clean, no wear but the leather was stiff. That mitt has seen me playing baseball, softball and coaching baseball. I still have it but it is tattered, scratched, some of the rawhide had to be replaced, stitching repaired but it still works as good as it did when I first used it as a teenager.

I have shared about some of the 3,100+ clubs in The Villages, Florida well here is another one, The Villages Croquet Club! The Villages Croquet Club is a member of the United States Croquet Association and has a certified instructor. The dues are $20 a year per member and members must wear white in the traditional croquet manner. The club has two courts which is about ½ mile from my home and they play from noon until dusk Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

I was sitting in my house and I heard the cracking sound of a tree falling, oh no thankfully not mine but a neighbor’s tree. A large limb did fall on my yard but no big deal as no damage.
