You're going to need more of them if you park your car at a Chicago Parking Meter effective January 1, 2009, even though the meters are scheduled to be modified to accept Charge Cards by 2011.
Chicago plans to privatize its thousands of parking meters, in return for a $1.2 Billion up-front payment and a 75-year lease from a New York company. Chicago - here we go again!
The season's first significant snowfall is predicted to dump as much as 3 - 6 inches in the city and suburbs through tomorrow, with snowfall predicted to begin early this afternoon. Sleet will fall initially, followed by all snow, before tapering off to snow flurries Monday afternoon.

It's getting colder by the day here in Chicago - hope it's warmer where you are!
Many in-city residents here rely on CTA Buses and El Trains to get to and from work each day, and for personal travel within the City of Chicago and many suburbs. It's quite possible, perhaps as early as a year or so from now, traveling around town will be quicker and easier - well, paying fares will be, anyway.

Sue and I are back in Chicago, having spanned nearly 2,000 miles, and dropping 40 degrees in temperature, in just a few short hours of a plane ride.
Here on the South Side of Chicago, beside Lake Michigan, the ethnically-diverse Hyde Park and Kenwood Neighborhoods have long boasted 1890's mansions, down the street from vintage, three-story walk up apartment buildings. Stories like this stir my ire - not only because they make my home town of Chicago look quite foolish, but the tax dollars they have used is coming out of our collective pockets!
By the end of 2008, most of the work on the Chicago Transit Authority highly-touted Brown Line L Renovation Project will be complete. The cost to Chicago, and IL, Taxpayers - roughly, $530 Million, give or take a couple of pennies.
