social networking: When networking read the profile before you send that friend request! (rant) - 11/11/09 07:37 AM
I know I sound like a broken record, but PLEASE take the time to read the profile of the person you wish to network with before you send them a networking invitation.  On my LinkedIn profile, I plainly state that I do not accept canned invites, yet day in and day out I receive dozens of "I'd like to add you to my professional network on LinkedIn" messages. Grrr! Drives me crazy.  Same thing with Facebook. On my profile it plainly states that I don't accept friend requests unless I know how we are connected.  So why is it that when … (7 comments)

Many people think that when they first join a social media network, they don't have anything they can share. That simply is not true. I created a slide show to show how easy it is to contribute to a social media network. Even if you are brand new, you can share information with someone. Enjoy. social networking: I'm making a few changes around here... - 05/29/09 12:08 PM
Correction, I'm making a lot of changes.  For starters, I'm not calling myself a virtual assistant anymore.  It's true.  While I've had a great run as a virtual assistant, it's time for me to take my business to the next level.  I know you're probably asking, well what level is that?  I've always wanted to be a coach.  I've been hanging out with coaches and reading everything I could find about coaching.  I recently attended a 33 minute group mastery call with WendyY Bailey and that gave me a lot of ideas.  I'm going to be helping female financial planners learn … (1 comments)

social networking: To my linkedin group family - 05/02/09 08:29 PM
I'm pleased to see how this group has grown in number. My goodness. I never would have thought that we could have grown to over 100 members with very little promotional effort on my part. That means I must have an awesome group of people here! But seeing as how we have new members I need to remind everyone of the rules. Very simply, this group is about anything related to linkedin or social media. If I see a post that doesn't mention one of those two things, it will get deleted. Now I have gotten behind on deleting unrelated posts, … (0 comments)

social networking: Teleseminar Lunch and Learn Series - 01/11/09 04:49 PM
I've decided to start the first of what I hope to be a monthly Lunch and Learn Teleseminar Series. I'd like to get some feedback regarding business topics you'd like to hear me talk more about in detail.  Some of the topics that I'm thinking about talking about include, Productivity, Social Networking, Twitter, LinkedIn, and using ActiveRain. I would love to hear from you regarding this. You can leave comments in this blog if you have ideas for me.  If you'd like to be one of the first to know when I'm having a telecall, go to the following site for … (2 comments)

social networking: After a long hiatus I'm back on the radio (Internet Radio that is) - 09/17/08 04:04 PM
I took a long break from it but I'm back. I have launched my own Internet Radio Program. I haven't nailed down an exact schedule yet so check here for announcements and reminders about my show. I'll be talking about online networking, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, ActiveRain, and whatever else I think of. Click the button listed at the bottom of this blog post for information about the radio program.

social networking: Realtors, are you where your customers are? - 09/17/08 03:37 PM
Active Rainer's, I have a question for you today.  Are you where your potential customers are?  Let me explain.  It's perfectly okay to hang out at active rain with all of your buddies.  It's all right to hang out at the other real estate forums that are out there.  Let's face it, those people aren't going to be very likely to buy a house from you.
You need to be sure to spend some time at places like LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter to get in front of consumers.   The consumers need to know that you have all of this great free … (0 comments)

social networking: Be sure to connect with your LinkedIn friends on other platforms - 08/29/08 01:21 PM
Okay, you've gotten that all important yes from your LinkedIn connection.  Now what?  You should connect with your LinkeIn contact on other social networking platforms you use.  Is the new contact involved in real estate? Invite him/her to join you here on active rain.  Invite your LinkedIn contact to join you on twitter and follow your tweets.  Of course you should ask your contact before you start sending them a lot of invitations.
When you connect with people on other social networking platforms besides LinkedIn, you give them a chance to get to know you better.  Once people become familiar with … (0 comments)

social networking: How to determine if a social networking site is right for your business. - 08/07/08 10:54 AM
If you're on the web long enough eventually you'll get an invitation to join an online social networking group.  How do you determine if that group is worth your time?  First you should look at the members that are already a part of the network.  Are they your target market?  If not, then I don't think you should spend much time on that network.  Also look at what the people are doing on that network.  If all of them are trying to sell something, that's another sign that you may want to avoid that network.  Your time is valuable.  You don't … (1 comments)

social networking: How to Use LinkedIn: Part 3- Adding Connections - 08/01/08 04:42 AM
By now you've signed up for linkedin and you have created an awesome profile.  Here comes the fun part: Adding Connections.  First you want to start with your real world connections.  These are the people you work with, went to school with, current and past clients, and people you may worship with.  Once you send invitations to those people, the next thing you want to do is join LinkedIn Groups that are relevant to your specialty.  You should also join LinkedIn LIONS by going to
Joining this group will get you a lot of connections.  Basically the people in this … (16 comments)

social networking: New Group For LinkedIn Members - 07/22/08 12:08 AM
I created a new group for active rainers that are on LinkedIn. I thought this would be a good place to post your LinkedIn profile, get new connections, and ask LinkedIn specific questions. If this is something that you're interested in, you can join the new group by going here : LinkedIn on Active Rain

social networking: One more reason why you should be on twitter... - 07/15/08 04:18 PM
I just read in a realtor's blog that she sold a house on twitter.  You can read that blog post by going here: won't repeat the details here except to say that you should really consider getting on twitter and making good use of that free tool.

social networking: Do you twitter? - 07/14/08 05:24 PM
Do you twitter? Are you wondering what the heck twitter is? Basically twitter is a web2.0 technology that allows you to tell your online buddies what you are working on. It also allows you to see what they are doing. If you look at the bottom of this post, you'll see my twitter badge and you will be able to follow me on twitter.

social networking: Real Estate Open Networkers Site on Ning - 07/07/08 04:55 AM
I belong to another real estate networking group on ning. Actually that's one of the ways that I found out about active rain. It's called real estate open networkers. You may see some of the same people there that you see on active rain, but there is always the chance that there may be someone on there who has never heard of active rain. Check this site out today!

social networking: LinkedIn Answer - 07/04/08 10:25 AM
Someone asked me what LinkedIn was in a comment that I saw on another post.  Basically LinkedIn is similar to activerain in that it is a social networking platform.  It's different from activerain in the sense that activerain has more opportunities for you to interact with the people in your network than LinkedIn does.  I use both because both of them help increase your visibility and anything that increases my visibility online is a good thing.
