franklin county: I'll Be Thinking Of You, Mom ! - 10/30/15 08:41 PM
Today is Halloween, my Mom's favorite holiday.   No, she wasn't into ghoulish things; she was into children.   She had five of her own but so many more were in her heart and in her front yard on Halloween.   Mom would buy every little animated figure with a motion detector.   She loved to see the children's reactions as they approached the front door and one of the figures would suddenly come to life.
My brother and I live locally and every year we had to be at Mom's early in the day to help set up all the displays.   … (9 comments)

franklin county: Virginia Lot loans and Construction loans - 10/29/15 12:02 AM
It is another beautiful day in Virginia.   As the colors on the trees are at their peak, the sun rising making them glisten in the morning dew, I wonder; . . . .
                                      where are you ?
Yes folks, we still have plenty of land available in this wonderful place.   There are lots available all over the state of Virginia and we would love for you to come enjoy all four seasons of the year with us.   You'll enjoy it too.

franklin county: Blimp On The Loose ! - 10/28/15 06:46 AM
Today, a military blimp broke loose from it's moorings and flew adrift in the wind for hundreds of miles.   As it aimlessly floated along, completely uncontrolled; it did damage along it's path causing inconvenience and threatening people's well being.
What do you do ?   How do you stop it ?   Once free from the safety and control of it's owner, it was able to cause damage for thousands of people.   From Maryland to Pennsylvania to New Jersey, no one knew where the damage was going to occur next.
Thankfully, the blimp is back on the ground now.  Unfortunately, the … (2 comments)

franklin county: Moneta, Virginia LICENSED Mortgage Loan Originator - 10/28/15 03:52 AM
I heard a horror  story just the other day.   OK, it's late October so you would think that's appropriate but it's not.   A new mortgage loan client was telling about the bad experience they had with an online mortgage lender.
Unfortunately, in our world of modern technology, we sometimes forget to use our good sense when making the biggest financial decision of our lives.   Sometimes the excitement of the moment leads us to unwise actions.
The client was SMART to do their due diligence and research rates and companies and I don't fault them for that.   Fact is, … (1 comments)

franklin county: Remember to change your smoke detector batteries this weekend ! - 10/27/15 01:50 PM
This weekend as we set our clocks back an hour, please be sure to change your smoke detector batteries.   The fire service recommends changing them when the time changes to avoid that annoying chirping sound at 2 AM in the morning.
This recommendation is based on research and the inability to tell how long the batteries you bought were on the store shelf before your purchase.   Commonly, a battery should last a full year but to be safe, they suggest it is better to change it twice.
Below is a post I put out to my Realtors a few weeks ago … (7 comments)

And in other parts of the country.   That's right, it's time to exercise in Virginia and I plan to do my part.   My husband is also going to join in and do his part.   I have friends, neighbors, family members, co-workers and total strangers here in Virginia that are all going to exercise.   Yes America, we are going to exercise in Virginia.
  We Are Going To Exercise
        Our Right To Vote !

franklin county: Hello and Welcome to Southlake, Virginia - 10/26/15 01:30 AM
Yes folks, there is a Southlake, Virginia.   It's one of the best kept secrets around.   Not even the post office knows about us but believe it or not, we are here.   OK, that wasn't loud enough so let me try that again;
         WE  ARE  HEEEEERRRREE !!!
It's time we were acknowledged for where and who we are.
Southlake, Virginia is a very diverse area made up of unincorporated communities in the northeastern part of Franklin County and the northwestern part of Pittsylvania County.   Southlake, Virginia is along State Route 40 running between Rocky Mount, Virginia in Franklin … (1 comments)

franklin county: I'm offering my help for our Seniors - 10/16/15 04:47 AM
The government has just announced there will be NO INCREASE in Social Security payments next year. That effects 71 million Americans or nearly 20 percent of the entire population of this great country.   Unfortunately, most of those who will have to adjust to this announcement are seniors.
I want to help our seniors.   Many of them are struggling with financial issues and often they don't know where to turn for help.   For many, Social Security is their only source of income.   The reality is, not all seniors are in a position to be helped, but I want to do what … (8 comments)

franklin county: I've lost $20,000,000,000.00 ! - 10/14/15 07:23 AM
That's right, 20 BILLION, with a "B".   That's what Walmart is saying right now.   So, what can we do ?   Is it time to hold a fund raiser for Sam Walton's clan ?   Do we need to hold a special collection at church on Sunday ?   Are all Walmarts going out of business ?
You know; sometimes we have to get the back story before making a knee jerk reaction to an announcement.   Yes, Walmart's stock price has dropped a bit lately but folks; the sky IS NOT falling !
Often a client will hear some otherwise … (18 comments)

franklin county: A special night out ! - 10/14/15 01:24 AM
Remember in high school when we blurted out something like "Let's close this place down !"   Maybe we had a teacher that graded a paper too low or the "cool kids" were picking on us or someone commented negatively at our latest attempt to be fashionable.   Whatever the reason, we really didn't expect it to happen.   But in my case, it did !
You see, my friends and I were the last class to graduate from Andrew Lewis High School here in Salem, Virginia in 1977.   No more "Wolverines".   That's right; we finished our senior year and … (1 comments)

franklin county: It's Columbus Day ! So, what do we do ? - 10/12/15 04:14 AM
Hello everybody and Happy Columbus Day !   I am especially enjoying it because I actually get a day off this year.   Yes, I feel sorry for those of you that actually have to work today.
Until recently moving back into the bank to originate mortgages, I had to work on this day too in past years.   But, this year is different so we had to decide what to do.
Let's see, we could go shopping but Christopher wasn't doing that.   We could go for a drive but no, Mr. Columbus wasn't doing that either.   In fact, Christopher Columbus … (5 comments)

franklin county: In the end, the charities win ! - 10/10/15 08:21 AM
It's that time of year again.   The annual Charity Home Tour is this weekend at Smith Mountain Lake, Va.   All homes on the tour are accessible both by boat and by car.   There are so many beautiful homes on the tour this year.
We do this every year to support our area charities and to show off our amazing homes.   It is a great opportunity to get remodeling ideas and to see some amazing landscaping.   It is also a great way to offer your help as a volunteer and to support our area charities.
When businesses have … (4 comments)

franklin county: Put a BEEP where you SLEEP ! - 10/09/15 01:03 AM
My husband has been in public safety for decades and asked me to share this with you.   This week is "National Fire Prevention Week".   As we go into the fall season and people begin firing up their furnaces, wood stoves and fireplaces; there is an increased danger of residential fires.
Every year, you see it on TV; a family or community dealing with the tragic loss of life due to a residential structure fire.   It is heart breaking to hear a fire marshal doing a press conference and announcing that the home DID NOT have a working … (5 comments)

franklin county: Important Information for Everybody ! - 10/08/15 04:52 AM
@Patricia Kennedy just wrote a post on "Do you understand flood planes (plains)" ?   In the comments, an ActiveRainer asked, "Can you give us a place to start when wanting to obtain a flood plain map for our area?"   In answer to that, Yes: I'd be glad to.   Obviously, living on and working in the lake area, this is a question I deal with on a regular basis.
To determine if your own property, your listing or the house your client is considering buying is in a flood plain, use this link:
Once there, enter the property … (33 comments)
