Here we go - the countdown to the new year! I’m feeling quite optimistic about 2012. Our market - so soft for so long - seems to be re-gaining some hope with the opening of new industry and creation of new jobs. We still have a lot of work to do in workforce development, especially getting workers’ skills up-to-speed for the new jobs available, but there’s a spark there that I hope will turn into a flame!I feel better about my preparedness for 2012, too. Best day yet this month! I commandeered my 12-year-old granddaughter and her friend to spend the afternoon delivering Christmas “gifts” to the 75 homes in a subdivision, River Glen, that I helped the developer design and market starting about ten years ago. It has been an absolute delight to be listing agent for all the homes in River Glen, to work with the developer/builder, and to know the 75 families that now call this lovely community home! Well, I worked constantly from about 9:30 am until 5:45 pm, and I got many things done: cleaning up a data base, attending a noon meeting, lunching with a long-time colleague and friend to celebrate Christmas, visited an older couple who bought a house from me about a year ago and who just needed to talk about the move here at this time in their lives, touched bases with a single Mom who’s celebrating her first Christmas in her new house, and went to a Christmas reception hosted by our MainStreet Morganton program. 2011 December Blogging Challenge, Day 20Snow storms blanketing the west and midwest, rain headed this way, sleepless night - this is what Day 20 has been made of! I did manage to get quite a few things done: previewed property for listing. This will not be added to my inventory. It’s a half-finished shell guarded by two large dogs. I may have heard the dueling banjos from Deliverance, or maybe it was my imagination, but I didn’t wait around long enough to decide whether I’d ever feel safe showing.
