silver spring real estate: Should I Just Offer a "Decorating Allowance" or Do the Work? - 08/22/12 12:28 PM
“Should I offer a “paint and carpet (or insert update) ” allowance instead of actually doing the work on my Silver Spring or Takoma Park House?”
Silver Spring Homesellers- When you’re getting your home ready for the market, the list of things that need to be done can seem overwhelming.
Would'nt it be much easier to just offer the buyer a "credit" or an "allowance"?  The buyers probably would prefer to pick out their own carpet or paint color.
The problem with offering a decorating allowance or credit instead of actually doing the painting, refinishing or carpeting is that these two items … (4 comments)

silver spring real estate: Favorite House in Silver Spring, Maryland - A rare Victorian - 08/22/12 12:23 PM
This Victorian is one of my favorite houses in Silver Spring, Maryland.  It is sits majesticly on a large lot in one of the oldest subdivisions in Silver Spring.  The subdivision is called Woodside and was established in 1889.  There are only 100 houses on 4 or 5 streets in Old Woodside, so victorian homes like this are rare in Silver Spring.

Is the month of August really useless and dismal? - Not for Silver Spring and Takoma Park Real Estate sellers! Why would you want to list a house for sale in the lazy hazy heat of August, when people are uninterested and out of town on vacation?Heres why:August is one of the biggest transfer months for relocating buyers.Buyers want to secure a home now before school starts in the fall. The inventory of houses for sale is very low - meaning your property has less competition for buyers. When inventory goes down sale prices tend to go UP.                … (2 comments)

silver spring real estate: I Saved a Tree in Downtown Silver Spring today! - 08/06/12 06:48 AM
I have been dreading this day for years.  The (once) beautiful colorado blue spruce by my front door had to come down.  When I first bought the house this tree looked like the perfect Christmas tree, like the one you would see on a Christmas scene or a pretty card.  The shape and bluish color of the tree looked beautiful right by the front door. Not to mention it smelled wonderful!Over the past 20 years, the tree has grown taller than the house, developed a double top (not the best for Christmas tree shape) and a wild overgrown look.  I have … (1 comments)

silver spring real estate: FAQ1 - What should I consider when buying a Condo in Silver Spring? - 06/01/12 11:20 AM
When shopping for a condominium in or near Downtown Silver Spring.  These are the most important questions to ask about the different buildings:Is a parking garage space included?    What type of finishes are in the kitchens and baths? Is there granite, stainless steel? Ceramic tile?  Are the appliances newer? Is there a washer and dryer in the unit? are they full size or stacked? Are there hardwood floors? What's the view like from the unit? Looking at a parking lot, another building? or a great skyline? Is there a balcony? Units on upper floors tend to sell for a higher price.Do the ammenites include a … (0 comments)

silver spring real estate: Downtown Silver Spring Alley Flower and Garden Show - 05/11/12 03:56 AM
This alley in Downtown Silver Spring never fails to disappoint in any season, but spring is probably the most beautiful.  Just love it when the neighbors care just as much about their back alley as they do about their front yards.

silver spring real estate: Street Food in the East Silver Spring Neighborhood Downtown - 05/09/12 10:58 AM
Stopped by this Food Truck today at the CITGO gas station on the corner of Fenton and Bonifant Street.  The truck is located at the edge of the East Silver Spring residential neighborhood.   They have been here for just 3 days.
The food was delicious and fairly CHEAP.  I had the “Steak and Fries” for 5 Bucks even.  Plenty of marinated sliced steak meat with grilled veggies and rice, covered in fries with an incredible white sauce drizzled over it all.  Since this was so good, next time I’m going to try the hot dog with shredded fries for $3.

silver spring real estate: Paczki, Pancakes and Popeyes in Silver Spring, Maryland - 02/20/12 02:42 AM
Tomorrow is Fat Tuesday, Shrove Tuesday and Paczki Day, the time we all Fatten ourselves up before tightening our belts and giving up things for Lent. Below are 3 “recession proof” Ways to celebrate Fat Day on the cheap in Silver Spring, Md
Number 1Head straight to the WOODMOOR Pastry Shop for some of their famous, divine, decadently outrageous Paczki and or pick up one of their fantastic King Cakes for dessert. After a couple of these, you won’t need any dinner or pancakes for a long time.
Number 2There are several Silver Spring and Takoma Park Churches with Pancake Suppers tomorrow … (1 comments)

silver spring real estate: Silver Spring Laundromats - You've come a Long Way, Baby! - 01/12/12 04:04 PM
I haven’t been in a laundromat in a long, long, long time, maybe 12 to 15 years ago.
The last time I needed to use a laundromat I went to the one near the corner of University Blvd & Piney Branch Road  and also the one in the 16th Street Strip Mall that was on the level under the McDonalds there.  They were both crowded places and kinda dingy and dark.  There were 2 different sizes of washers and dryers that took coins.  I couldn’t wait to get my laundry done and get out.
I recently went into the new Tropicana Laundromat on Fenton Street to wash some real bulky items … (1 comments)

silver spring real estate: Blair Subdivision - Charming Old Silver Spring - Bungalows Galore - 01/05/12 06:24 AM
The Blair Subdivision is one of the earliest subdivision of homes in Silver Spring.  Originally called E Brooke Lee's Addition to Silver Spring, it is one of E Brooke Lee's first forays into Residential Real Estate Development.  Carved out of land that was part of the Blair Family Country Estate, many of the street names come from the Blair and Lee families, such as Gist, Violet and  Woodbury.  There is even a street named after the famous horse Selim that threw Francis Preston Blair and ran off, causing the discovery of the original "Silver Spring".
Most of E Brooke Lee's addition eventually became the commercialized area of Downtown Silver Spring … (7 comments)
