FLOOR COVERINGS INTERNATIONAL LOCATIONS 11/12/12
Over the weekend, I got many email requests on my website, and one of them was for someone moving to Ulster County, looking for a recommendation on a trusted flooring store.  Well Floor Coverings International is nationwide, so, I recommended my trusted friends in Orange County to help him.  http://orangecountyny.floorcoveringsinternational.com/
We are nation-wide (and in Canada, too) and we continue to grow and add new locations every quarter. There over 100 of us across the US and Canada.  If you're looking for an expert in flooring, see if there is a Floor Coverings International near you.

ramblings from a westchester flooring store shop at home: I hope I can find a gas station with gas today - 11/01/12 08:45 PM
I'm so thankful that we have electriicity in my building and that we were spared from Hurricane Sandy.  I have to say it's been a scary and weird week here.  There are still well over 200,000 in my county without power or phones, and my parents are among those.  There are many more without cable (no TV, no internet).  There is no ETA and it is getting colder each day.  Schools have been canceled for the whole week, so many are going stir crazy...not only with the kids, but with nothing to do.

Some that have power have had other … (146 comments)

ramblings from a westchester flooring store shop at home: Metro North resumes trains to NYC from Mt Kisco to Grand Central -FREE - 10/31/12 09:31 PM
Beginning, Thursday November 1, 2012, Metro North is resuming trains to the City for the Harlem line from Mt Kisco into the Grand Central and the New Haven line from Stamford to Grand Central.  The Hudson line remains suspended until further notice due to extensive storm damage.

Fares will be free for this Thursday and Friday.

They are trying to prevent people from driving in the City, and would try to avoid it by all means given all the reports on the radio - it was complete gridlock yesterday and most traffic lights are still out.  Right now, by … (6 comments)

ramblings from a westchester flooring store shop at home: Another coincidence - It's a small world in New Rochelle - 10/28/12 09:06 PM
On Saturday, I wrote about how one of my past customers sold her house and moved into another house where we had already refinished the floors.  In both cases, I worked directly with the real estate agents, so I had not met the customer.

Well on Sunday, I was meeting a customer who is buying a new home...and lo and behold when I arrived, one of those same real estate agents met me at the door.  I was pleasantly surprised and related the previous day's events to her and we had a good laugh.   2 seconds later, I look up … (25 comments)

ramblings from a westchester flooring store shop at home: Incompetence at Home Depot - 10/25/12 06:00 AM
I just have to vent for a second.  I'm amazed at the incompetence.
I was calling Home Depot to get some supplementary flooring items.  I was just calling to ask a quick question so I could price something out accordingly.
First try...phone system doesn't work quite right.
Second try...I get transferred to the wrong place...on hold w/ loud music blaring in my ears...transferred 5 times, but never to the flooring department.
Third try...I'm on hold...someone answers...yes, a real person..."are you still holding for the flooring department?"  "yes, I say."  I get transferred.  Sweet.  Someone answers from the flooring department.  Click 1 … (15 comments)

ramblings from a westchester flooring store shop at home: Some fall pictures from Carmel NY - 10/24/12 08:16 PM
Last week, I was up in Carmel NY and it was a gorgeous day.  I had to stop by Lake Carmel to take a few pictures.  The roads in this small area of Carmel are stunning - right on the lake.  I love to drive by it in the spring/summer as well as the fall.  It helps me escape and think about nature and when times were a bit simpler.
Here are some pictures taken last week. Each day, I see changes...fall is fleeting, but absolutely stunning.

ramblings from a westchester flooring store shop at home: My footsies are tired - 10/20/12 10:45 PM
Last night, we went to my cousin's wedding. Weird since I knew him since he was 3.

The ride into the city was brutal. Not sure what was going on, but we got majorly stuck in the Bronx and I has to listen to my parents fight about which way to go/which way we should have gone.  We couldn't move anyway, so I'm not sure I saw the point of that.  It seems everyone had the same issue... Those coming from Westchester, Long Island and NJ. Even the bus from the hotel a few blocks away was delayed by 30 … (18 comments)

ramblings from a westchester flooring store shop at home: I got my hair done today...and what happened? It rained! - 10/19/12 09:37 AM
I have a wedding to go to tomorrow night in NYC, so I decided to get my hair done.  It was time anyway.  I have to say that I really dislike when the weather decides to rain on my new hairdoo...it's already frizzy.

But, it still looks great and I'm hoping for good weather tomorrow.

I had 3 appts today, so I had to go in and out of the car often in this awful weather.  So, my hairdresser made a custom plastic bag to cover my hair.  It kind of reminded me of what my grandmother used to … (17 comments)

ramblings from a westchester flooring store shop at home: Fall pictures in Greenwich CT - 10/17/12 08:06 PM
I spent yesterday afternoon at Starbucks in Greenwich CT.  This was the lovely view outside my window.  While this particular Starbucks (in Cos Cob) is very difficult to park in (not enough spaces), when I'm lucky enough to be in the area and find a space, I love to hang out here...and most especially in the fall.

ramblings from a westchester flooring store shop at home: I'm liking my droid more and more...input welcome - 10/06/12 12:25 PM
A few weeks ago, I lost my cell phone and all my contacts.  I was not happy.  But, it was time to upgrade and I got a Droid, and I have to say I'm loving it.  The more I use it, the more I love it and I keep finding new things and ways that it can save me time.

I still have tons to learn.  When I got it, I had to rush out of the store, so I never got a lesson.  I keep learning things by accident and from people telling me.  I still have much more … (18 comments)

ramblings from a westchester flooring store shop at home: Celebrating 100 featured posts...what's your first? I'll reblog it! - 09/25/12 10:36 PM
I remember when I started Active Rain a little over 2 years ago - lost, confused, isolated and CLUELESS about featured posts.  I thought I would never get one.  I remember reading a post by Margaret Woda entitled Re-discovering my first FEATURED post on Active Rain.  In there, she mentioned that she had 100 Featured posts!

I was blown away.  I couldn't even figure out how to get 1 featured post, and Margaret had 100!.  How the heck did she do that?  And, what the heck was I doing wrong?  Anyway, in this post down memory lane for her, she … (42 comments)

ramblings from a westchester flooring store shop at home: Is this the Flooring Girl? Wow, you're "like" an internet celebrity! - 09/24/12 08:57 PM
LOL, that's what my caller said to me yesterday.  I was stunned and didn't know what to say, so I just laughed.  He wanted to make sure he had the actual "Flooring Girl." (I'm still not sure why he thinks that I'm an internet celebrity).

So yesterday, I gave my caller from Manhattan some advice on his hardwood floors (and while I was at it, his kitchen, too).  It seems that his building is paying to redo his floors due to some water damage.  They will give him replacement value, but he can choose to upgrade if he wants and … (44 comments)

ramblings from a westchester flooring store shop at home: Here's a quick/easy way to do Google + - 09/23/12 07:19 PM
Last week I wrote a post about using Google +  Are you using Google +? Are you helping your fellow Rainers?...how it can help your SEO and how we can help each other.

It was a long post...I rambled a bit (sorry).

A few commented that they didn't have time for another social network and felt overwhelmed.  I get this.  But, seriously, what I'm suggesting should not take much time.  It can be done in 20 seconds or less every day.  I'm not kidding.

Now, if you don't yet have a Google + account, you will need to … (85 comments)

ramblings from a westchester flooring store shop at home: LOL...I've been to that address before - 09/20/12 02:56 AM
Last night I got a call from one of my favorite real estate agents.  She told me she has a pending sale and her buyer wants to visit the house one more time....and she asked him if he wanted her to make arrangements for a flooring person to be there.  (Gosh, I have to love her...she's looking out for her client and for me).

This is in a nice condo complex in White Plains, and we've done a bunch of work there.  When she told me the address, I paused as it sounded familiar - not justhe street, but the … (11 comments)

ramblings from a westchester flooring store shop at home: Are you using Google +? Are you helping your fellow Rainers? - 09/19/12 06:26 AM
First, let me caveat this by saying I'm not a huge social media fan nor user.  Frankly, my time is limited, and I do try to find efficient ways to leverage these platforms.  I do know they can help my business by reconnecting with my customers/sphere for higher top of mind awareness, but usually my blogging takes priority - it is a key business generator for me (in fact my largest).

I tend to use Social media to amplify my blogging efforts (and I leverage hootsuite to do this efficiently).

I'm probably not using Social media in the most … (85 comments)

ramblings from a westchester flooring store shop at home: Video that features our floors and stenciling - 09/15/12 09:47 PM
This was a nice surprise in my email box.  I got a note from one of my customers (she is a real estate agent).  Last summer, we helped her with her new purchase in Cold Spring, NY.
Let's just say the place needed a LOT of help.  And, I mean a LOT.  We assisted with the floors - we repaired several sections and sanded and refinished.  They then stenciled the floors and they look beautiful.  (We did stain, and poly, then they stenciled, then we put on more poly to seal the floors).
Check out this video - both to see … (14 comments)
