Here are 6 suggestions on how to make your home look larger.  5 of them are simple and 1 is a larger investment.

This holds true when it comes to furniture as well as knick knacks. Look around your room. Determine what furniture you really need and what can go. What do you really use? Whatever you are not using on a regular basis should be eliminated. Try to remove at least … (50 comments)

I have been to several really cool homes these last few days.  Here are some pictures of the wonderful hardwood floors.  Check them out!

The first one is a medallion in a beautiful home in Rye I went to see yesterday.  This is in her entryway.  She has many really cool and unique festures in her home with a whole handpiainted dinig , a library with herringbone floors and cherry paneling, and lovely handpainted wood bureaus in the bathroom.  Oh, and the kitchen has an open floor plan and I love the cabinets.

westchester hardwood flooring shop at home: Can hardwood flooring be installed on top of tile? - 06/28/13 10:49 AM
The short answer to this is "Yes." Yes, you can install hardwood on top of tile (or natural stone) provided that the tile is intact/good condition (i.e. not coming up/breaking apart), the tile is relatively flat and the hardwood is an engineered hardwood, and given that there is enough clearance in height.

There are 3 ways to install hardwood flooring...and one of them will work on top of tile flooring: 1. Nail down. This requires a plywood sub-floor which is 3/4" thick...or some similar wood surface that is equivalent and has enough structure to secure the nails. The method … (51 comments)

westchester hardwood flooring shop at home: What is a screen and recoat? What does buffing mean? - 06/25/13 07:54 AM

Screening is often called buffing, since the screening is done with a buffer. Screening both smooths the floors a bit, and the abrasive action allows the polyurethane to adhere to the surface better. The screen and recoat process can restore the glow of the floors and give them a refreshed look.

Some customers call this a "light … (30 comments)

How can you eliminate pet stains in hardwood floors?  This is a frequent question from homeowners with pets.  Those dark black water stains can arise from direct contact or from when the pet stains have soaked through the carpet and onto the hardwood flooring.

Second, a diagonal layout adds visual intrigue to the room - it just looks much more visually intriguing than the standard straight lay.

Third, usually, the diagonal draws you in from the entrance to the focal … (30 comments)
