camas: Sounds of Spring on the Trail - Lacamas Heritage Trail, Camas WA - 04/17/19 09:30 AM
One of our favorite places to run, walk, or just sit and listen, is the Lacamas Heritage Trail in Camas, Washington. Lucky us, it's just minutes from home too. Even Mac, our white golden retriever, was smiling during our hour-long outing. We had to take a minute and just listen...although, Mac would rather have been in the water.

Happy Spring - don't forget to soak up the signts, and the sounds.

camas: Serving up Fresh Greens at our Rural Camas, Washington Home - 04/30/18 04:42 PM
We can't get enough of the fresh colors of the greens popping up in our yard in Camas, Washington.
Spring air smells fresh and clean, and the lush greenery at our rural home in Camas matches the sensory expectations.  It's such a delight to see the new growth and tender leaves on a variety of our shrubs and trees. The verdant landscape is short-lived, in a few months, drier weather will have tempered the cool greens.

Spring's Promises
Yesterday, in between the rain showers, we spent a few hours pulling weeds and pruning. While we're still a few months away from our vegetable bounty, it won't … (23 comments)

camas: Summit At Autumn Hills on Livingston Mountain - Nature As Neighbors - 01/12/18 08:07 AM

The Summit at Autumn Hills
We enjoy selling and showing homes in The Summit at Autumn Hills neighborhood on Livingston Mountain. It's one of our favorite neighborhoods to call home in Camas. It's no wonder too. The Summit is surrounded by towering pines, alders, and wildlife. A true destination for the "Nature as Neighbors™" lifestyle.

Residents claim they get more days of sunshine, thanks to the higher elevation. And if you're dreaming of a White Christmas, this neighborhood has a far greater chance of seeing that happen. While we can't guarantee it, three Christmas' out of last three years did have measurable snow on the ground.

Camas is one of the most desirable towns in Clark County, Washington. It's no wonder too. Great schools, small town charm, plus natural beauty and plenty of recreation make this area popular with a number of home buyers. We appreciate the welcoming small-town atmosphere in Camas, Washington. Tree-lined streets and friendly merchants make the downtown one of our favorite spots to shop. A sense of community underscores the lifestyle, and plenty of events, hosted by the Downtown Merchants Association and the Parks and Recreation Department, are designed to get people together. In fact, each month, they host a First Friday with the perfect theme to celebrate the month, or season. Although, one of our favorite events is the annual Boo Bash. camas: Views of Clark County - The Camas Lily Fields - 04/13/16 02:25 AM

The Camas Lily Fields - A Stunning View in Spring
"Timing is everything" is an expression that certainly applies to viewing the blossoming Camas lily field  in Lacamas Lake Regional Park. They are in their prime late April through May, when they explode into hues from pale lilac to deep purple. If you hike along the Round Lake Trail, you will note a sign steering you off the path to a field carpeted with lilies.  It's another one of Nature's spectacular sights, worth visiting during the height of its blooms.
Surprisingly, this beautiful plant was also a major source of food for Native Americans who lived in the … (14 comments)

camas: The Leadbetter House in Camas - News and Views - 03/28/16 01:27 AM

A Gift Known as The Leadbetter House
We are big fans of the Queen Anne Victorian-style farmhouse that sits on the north shore of Lacamas Lake. Known as the Leadbetter House, or Lake House, it was a wedding gift from Henry L. and Georgianna Pittock ( Pittock Mansion, Portland, Oregon) to their son, Frederick, and his new bride, Bertha Leadbetter (Pittock).
The home was built in 1901 by John Roffler who left a legacy of lovely Victorian homes throughout the Camas area. Roffler was just 22 years old when the Pittocks hired him to build the two and half story structure. It has been listed on … (17 comments)

camas: Hummingbird Hopeful in Camas WA - Rufous or Anna's? - 02/24/16 11:36 PM
Rufous or Anna's at Our Camas Feeder?
(By Mfield, Matthew Field, http://www.photography.mattfield.com – Own work, CC BY-SA 3.0)
We recently wrote about Rufous Hummingbirds our region. We’ve always known the Anna Hummingbirds winter over in the Pacific Northwest, but we were a bit surprised to learn some Rufous do too. My husband thinks a female Rufous may have visited our feeder this week, I suspect it’s a female Anna’s hummingbird.  Both are more drab in color than the males, but Anna’s have a sheen of green feathers along their sides, while the Rufous have a subtle red shading. Anna’s are a bit larger than the Rufous too. They … (14 comments)

camas: ViewHomes of Camas, WA - Nature Not Neighbors - 10/28/15 11:17 PM
Many Homes in Camas Offer Spectacular Views of Nature

One advantage of living in Camas, WA is how many places offer amazing views of the area. The geological evolution of heat, ice and floods over eons formed dramatic promontories overlooking deep canyons, creating panoramic vistas from many points.  The surrounding areas also morphed into peaks and hillsides, so you don’t have to be perched right on the edge of the Gorge to have views.

In our case, we recently moved because we were craving views of nature, not neighbors. Now we live on a slight slope, just above the Little Washougal River.   We can't always see the river, due to the … (17 comments)
