christmas trees: The Magic of a Christmas Tree - 12/02/18 09:49 AM

It's always such a thrill to put up the tree each year. It's warm glow transforms our Great room into a magical wonderland. When it's time to take it down, although ready for the New Year, a part of us can't help but wish the magic of the season would linger on.

A Christmas tree! A Christmas tree!
With dark green needled memories
Of childhood dreams and mysteries
Wrapped present-like in front of me.
A Christmas tree! A Christmas tree!
I glimpse a past wherein i see
The child that then grew into me
Not forward fast but haltingly.
A Christmas tree! A Christmas tree!

christmas trees: Views of Clark County - When Good Trees Turn Bad - 12/21/16 09:14 AM

We have been promoting fresh Christmas trees for some time as a green choice for the holidays. Every year, we enjoy the hunt, harvest, and even the hassle of putting up a fresh tree - especially now that we live within 2 miles of a great tree farm.
Typically, with proper care, they keep their aroma and greenery for many days, and last well past Christmas day. This year, though, we were in for a surprise - in spite of faithfully following the National Christmas Tree Association guidelines. We took the tree straight home and prepped it properly for the stand. christmas trees: Live Versus Artificial Trees - The Green Choice - 12/02/16 08:43 AM

The Green Choice - Grown As A Crop
The topic of Live versus Artificial Christmas trees came up recently, actually at our Thanksgiving dinner table. Our guests know our love of Nature As Neighbors and assumed we too pull our tree out of a box each year. However, that’s not the case.
Many people assume they are helping the planet when they purchase a tree that can be used for a number of years, instead of cutting down a carbon-sipping evergreen. The green balance is actually tipped in favor of live trees because of how most are grown today - at Christmas Tree … (46 comments)

christmas trees: News and Views of Clark County - Live Christmas Trees are Truly Green - 11/28/15 12:43 AM
News and Views of Clark County, WA  - Live Trees - The Green Choice

Teddy Roosevelt once banned Christmas trees in the White House due to his commitment to conservation. At that time, most trees were cut in nearby forests. Today, most of our live Christmas trees are grown as crops and harvested on farms. Still, in recent years, sales of live trees have declined as artificial trees have become the norm.

If you want to help the planet, you’ll nix those fake trees 80% of which are shipped from China, giving them a huge carbon footprint. Most plastic trees … (14 comments)

christmas trees: Recycle your tree in Clark County, WA - Oh Christmas Tree! - 12/01/14 11:15 PM
Live Trees are a great choice in the Pacific Northwest!
It's the time of the year when live Christmas trees fill our homes with the scent of fresh evergreen. In the Pacific Northwest, real trees are often the preference, and a favorite choice of many environmentalists. That's because live Christmas trees are a renewable resource - and a recyclable resource. Artificial trees contain non-biodegradable plastics and possible metal toxins such as lead.
If you're wondering what to do with your Christmas Tree after the holidays.  Remember, in Clark County it's easy to recycle it.

Recyling Trees is the best choice.

Consider this,  if 10,000 trees were recycled we would … (18 comments)
