clark county: Multigenerational Homes in Clark County, WA for 2015 - 01/03/15 12:56 AM
You, me, the kids, and mom ( and dad). Family Living 2015 style.

Last year, we had more requests for multigenerational living arrangements. Our clients weren’t requesting a room in the home to house their aging parents, which is an ongoing request of baby boomers. Instead, they wanted a property with land and a separate structure for their parents. The buyers, in the their mid thirties, wanted mom ( and dad) around for security, child care, and in some cases, for more financial muscle.

For example, in one situation, the young wife wants her in-laws around for her peace of … (25 comments)

clark county: Recycle your tree in Clark County, WA - Oh Christmas Tree! - 12/01/14 11:15 PM
Live Trees are a great choice in the Pacific Northwest!
It's the time of the year when live Christmas trees fill our homes with the scent of fresh evergreen. In the Pacific Northwest, real trees are often the preference, and a favorite choice of many environmentalists. That's because live Christmas trees are a renewable resource - and a recyclable resource. Artificial trees contain non-biodegradable plastics and possible metal toxins such as lead.
If you're wondering what to do with your Christmas Tree after the holidays.  Remember, in Clark County it's easy to recycle it.

Recyling Trees is the best choice.

Consider this,  if 10,000 trees were recycled we would … (18 comments)

clark county: Boo to the Flu in Clark County, WA - It's time for your Flu Shot - 10/16/14 09:03 AM
October - The perfect time to get your flu shots in Clark County, WA.
Believe it or not, flu season is already upon us. We've got pumpkins and costumes on our minds, but we should also take a few minutes to get our flu shots. Now is the perfect time to get immunized.
Too many folks still think flu shots can make them sick, medical professionals say it's simply not true. In other words, you can't get the flu from a flu shot! However, you can get some mild symptoms post injection.  It's often a natural response from our immune system as it makes protective antibodies. … (21 comments)

The Camas Boo Bash - 2014
Hurray, the grandkids from Alaska will be visiting us again this year during the Boo Bash in downtown Camas. The Boo Bash is a big trick or treat extravaganza for the entire family. Many of the shop owners are also in costume which adds to the fun for children. Speaking of children, it's a blast to see them in colorful Halloween costumes ( … (22 comments)

clark county: Multi-generational Housing - A New Trend is Emerging! - 07/18/14 01:11 AM
Helping Families Find Multi-generational Homes!
There’s a growing trend in Clark County, WA. More and more buyers are looking for a home to share with mom, or mom and dad. And these buyers aren’t baby boomers. The age group I’ve been working with lately are in their 30’s, with young children. They want the grandparents around for their kids, and for themselves.
One family gets the keys to their new home today. It’s been fun listening to their specific needs and finding them a good match. A bit of acreage, chickens in the backyard, and organic gardens were important … (60 comments)

Our nearby city across the bridge, Portland, Oregon is known as one of the most bike-friendly cities in the US, and that notion spills over onto this side of the Columbia River.
On any given day, you’ll spot cyclists on the roads throughout Vancouver, and surrounding towns, such as Camas, and Washougal. Bike Clark County reminds us that “riding is fun, healthy, and good for the … (22 comments)

Clark County Wetlands Provide Enormous Benefits to Homeowners

We feel fortunate that our backyard borders a wetland - it provides an expansive greenspace, a palette of changing colors, and a daily symphony from birds and frogs. In short, we enjoy hours of free entertainment from nature.
Washington Dept. of Ecology’s web site captures the essence of wetlands: “Nature’s Sponges, Nurseries, and Water Filters.”  Fed by seasonal precipitation, wetlands in Clark County provide green, verdant open spaces that benefit homes and neighborhoods throughout the area.
Often maligned by developers because of state and county regulations, wetlands are actually a … (20 comments)

clark county: Fighting the Slimy Little Buggers in our Clark County, WA Gardens - 03/12/14 01:56 AM
Fighting the Slimy Little Buggers in our Clark County, WA Gardens
Spring and summer mornings find me, with coffee in hand, strolling through my garden. Most mornings, I spot those tell-tale slimy trails, and note the riddled holes in leaves of my favorite plants and vegetables.  Oh no, the slugs are back!
Slugs are eating machines - literally, just think of them as a stomach on a foot. Classified as gastropod molluscs, and not insects, they are essentially snails, without the cute shell. The mucous (slime) they produce helps them travel, mate, and defend themselves. We knew there had to be some … (27 comments)

clark county: Camas, WA Home Prices Still at a Premium - 01/03/14 12:44 AM
Camas Home Prices Still at a Premium

Camas remains popular with buyers in Clark County, WA, and who can blame them? Camas has small town charm, great schools and a variety of neighborhoods. In addition, Camas is surrounded by hills, parks and trails, and flanked by the Columbia River. However, home prices in Camas did not experience the increases seen in many other areas of Clark County.
This can be attributed to already strong pricing at the beginning of the year, and fewer foreclosures and short sales than the rest of the area. The average price of a … (21 comments)

clark county: Wiley Coyote's Wednesday Morning Visit in Camas, WA - 04/17/13 05:14 AM
Wiley Coyote’s Wednesday Morning Visit in Camas, Washington Imagine our surprise this morning when we saw this fellow standing in a field not far from our home in Camas, Washington. Minutes after this picture, he/or she pounced quickly and caught an unsuspecting bunny or mouse. Better that, we thought, than a neighborhood pet.

At least 50,000 coyotes are estimated to live in the state, and in Clark County, they are occasionally seen hunting in area neighborhoods. Those of us who live in a neighborhood, with close proximity to a natural habitat or greenbelt, need to be mindful of several things.

clark county: Large Parcel with Mt Hood View? Not a Problem - 02/18/13 08:36 AM
Large parcel with Mt Hood Views? Not a problem. The handful of brokers at The Carl Group has just finished up a huge project. The task - identify all large parcels ( 3 - 5 acres) of property in the Camas/Washougal area with Mt. Hood views. This sounds pretty easy, correct? Well, it's not. Especially when they are not, and never have been, listed in the local RMLS.
Most of the property on this side of the Columbia River is absent of Mt. Hood views. Plus, many of the subdivisions that do have homes with that particular view, sit on … (10 comments)

clark county: What is a .1 bathroom in Clark County, WA? - 11/27/12 10:41 PM
What is a .1 bathroom in Clark County, WA? Is a toilet sitting in a basement, with no walls around it, a .1 bath in Clark County, WA? According to our RMLS, a partial bath is designated as a .1 - which, in real estate, normally infers a sink and toilet.  In some markets, and even in Clark County, some agents still use .5 to indicate a half bath. Once again, it means a bathroom with a sink and a toilet. A full bath means a sink, and toilet with a bathtub or shower. However, at times, agents still list a bathroom … (55 comments)
