Roger and I recently had dinner with friends at the steakhouse in Winchester, Texas.
Winchester is in Fayette County, a quaint little Texas town located just about 10 minutes from Smithville, and 20 from Bastrop or LaGrange.
Settled in the early 1800's by Cunninham's and Ingram's ( just to name a few ) out in the fertile mesquite prairies, and at one point the town had seven general stores, a school, lumber yard, saloon, blacksmith, and barbershop.

fayette county: Monthly Fly in at the La Grange airport hosted by EEA Chapter 1347 for the Young Eagles

On The first Saturday of every month the Experimental Airplane Chapter (EEA Chapter 1347) group out at the La Grange Airport, LaGrange, Fayette County, Texas, just off Hwy 71 has a fund raising lunch. They are raising money for scholarships for young flying enthusiasts (Young Eagles) They ask for a $7 donation. Lunch this last Saturday was terrific and consisted of brisket, sausage, two kinds of potato salad ( my favorite is the baked potato salad!) and cole slaw, cookies, and iced tea or water. fayette county: Semi Annual Antique FEAST for all you collectors

Here in Central Texas there are MANY great places to antique shop. Bastrop and Smithville both have wonderful main street antique and collectible shops. Lockhart has a couple on it's square. One of the biggest markets happens twice an year in the Round Top area. Round Top is located on Highway 237 at FM Road 1457 in Fayette County . They are having their 40th annual event , their Fall Antiques Fair, October 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, 2007. Approx. 300 vendors set up in a total of 4 locations.
