active rain pointers: Adding Pictures to Your Active Rain Blog--The 20/20 Rule - 10/12/09 12:52 AM
Adding Pictures to Your Active Rain Blog--The 20/20 Rule I was teaching a blogging class at our Association recently and one of the questions was about posting your photos and clip art on your blog. "How do I keep my text/words from running into my pictures?"  I explained the 20/20 rule to him.  This week I received an email asking me that same question from another member.  Today as I was reading a post, I noticed that the text was butting up against the bloggers clip art and thought it was time I share this simple rule with you for posting … (54 comments)

Giving Back to the Active Rain Community

Transitioning into a new career, no matter what avenue you take to make that transition, can be an arduous process.  Wrapping your arms and your mind around this new career and giving it your all, makes for a much smoother adjustment than simply flying by the seat of your pants!  The same thing goes for newcomers to the blogging community.  If you're anything like I was, I tippy-toed into the blogosphere--very cautiously, I might add!  How many times have we heard the negatives of blogging?  Well, let me tell you, the amount of … (103 comments)

Social Media & Flies--Catching them with Active Rain & Honey Works BEST!
Initially when the rave for social media seemed just that--THE rave--I was a bit resistant. It seems that so many barriers were standing in the way of my figuring each new 'thing' out and I just didn't have the time, nor the inclination.  I have to admit though, that I've found an interesting correlation to those in the real estate business who are successful with the full scope of social media and Active Rain--positivity.

Had I never joined Active Rain, I probably would have continued down the … (82 comments)

Comment Reciprocation...
I've read recently that there are some that don't understand why members don't respond back to each and every comment that is left on their posts.  Folks, I am here to say that for many of us, it is virtually (no pun intended!) impossible!   We are writing for several reasons--to garner business from both the consumer and our fellow agents, to share knowledge and we sometimes write just for the heck of it.
I'm not quite sure which category this post would fit into! LOL

But, when we do capture the business from the consumer and … (104 comments)

active rain pointers: 2009 New Year's Resol-YOU-tions! - 12/31/08 09:41 AM
2009 New Year's Resol-YOU-tions!
Yes, it's that time again (thank goodness)!  Time to take a moment (or several) to reflect on your past year in business and set your goals for 2009!  If you have already done so, congratulations!  One of the first things that I learned in this business is that you can only fly by the seat of your pants for SO long!  A business plan is a MUST in this business and you must constantly tweak it in order to increase your success.  While reflecting, be a little critical of yourself, your practices and your expenses; see how … (47 comments)

Five COMMITMENTS To Boost Your Business    1. Commitment to Mastery:  Are you committed to offering only the best?  Are you committed to learning everything that you possibly can to become a master of your profession?  Think about this--in a busy market, we are able to balance the art of showing homes or listing homes AND maintaining contact with our sphere. Consider this--double up on your sphere contact AND work on earning another designation.  If you've tightened your budget, use the phone for your sphere contacts and use Active Rain for your 'education.' Phone a few extra people in your sphere each day--you … (37 comments)

Using Active Rain as an Educational Tool Active Rain:  Educational & Multifaceted!

I was chatting today with a fellow-Rain'er and were discussing our favorite bloggers and some of the current discussions that are going on.  That lead to the topic of posts that lead to discussions that seem to go on and on!  I love those--especially if they're friendly!  If they're not friendly, I try to steer clear of the comments and either move on or sit back and watch!

However, I have to say that a large part of the time, I read the post … (20 comments)

Tenacity and Constant Contact are Imperative in Our Business
The portion of the article below, written by Justin Parrish of the Charlotte Observer (and with permission to share here, of course!) came as a total surprise to me in Sunday's Charlotte Observer!  For those of you who read my writing routinely, you know that I have been writing about the increased number of first time buyers that I've been dealing with lately!  This was one of them and she was a complete doll to work with!  I'm sharing this shameless testimonial to show … (10 comments)

$2.5 - $3m Listing--Thanks to Active Rain!
$2.5 - $3m Deal Sealed--Thanks to Active Rain!

Earlier in the week, I wrote about a Seller who had phoned to have me list her home in the $2.5-$3m price range in PRIME Charlotte. I found out at the appointment that I was competing with some hard- hitting REALTORS in the area and was rather 'stunned' if you will, because I thought they had already researched and found who they wanted to list their home--ME!

Honestly (and humbly), my face and name are ALL over the place and my business is … (19 comments)
