Finding Ways to Help During a Pandemic
I've so enjoyed reading Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400's April Challenge Entries - what a wonderfully giving community we have. I marvel at the kindness and generosity shared here on a daily basis but, during a crisis, our members have gone above & beyond. Thanks to everyone for their fabulous entries and to Margaret for her continued community support. What on earth would we do without you, Margaret?
Rather than sharing physical or monetary ideas to help during these crazy times, I thought I would share something a little different - something more 'psychological.' I started a daily coronavirus hack … (47 comments)

Boast-a-Post - Patricia Kennedy's Are You A Realtor® Who Blogs Or A Blogger Who Sells Real Estate On The Side?
I've loved Richie Alan Naggar's challenge since the moment I heard about it - and we have had some excellent shares in his challenge this month too! First of all, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to host this month's challenge, Richie. We are all ever so grateful!
Now, for the dilemma...of the thousands and thousands of posts I've read here in the Rain over the years, which one stands out the most? Oh boy - maybe I'd better … (28 comments)

Coming Soon! New Homeowners, New Friendships - For Love, Not Money; A True Story
Well, money may have had a little to do with it but, the deeper story is 100% emotional!
When Carol Williams & Anna Banana Kruchten CRB, CRS put their collective minds together and announced this challenge, I had so many transactions that came to mind to share with you; I couldn’t decide which one to share. This one though, has to be the one that is dearest to me that I haven’t previously shared here in the Rain.
One October, I had a lovely couple who had purchased a home a few years … (51 comments)

Gratitude - Friends in the Rain and Beyond
Each year, during the month-of-gratitude, I salute the many members in the Rain who I have met, have been to my home, traveled from the east coast to the west coast together, simply met here and more. The connections made here over the years have become friendships that will last a lifetime and for them all, I am so very thankful.

This year, there is one very special member who I would love to salute - Will Hamm. Hopefully next week I will be able to complete a post I've been working on for months - the story … (68 comments)

November Gratitude - Grandparents - The Wind Beneath My Wings
If you haven't seen this heartwrenching video, do take the minute or so to watch...
This reminded me of my own grandparents and how they so positively shaped my life - in fact, all four of my grandparents did. I spent summers with my grandparents each year and loved every minute of my time with them.

I grew up in a family of golfers - all of them but, me, of course!  We spent lots of time at the country clubs when I was with my grandparents.  The only problem with spending time at the clubs? Well, I'm left … (35 comments)

activerain challenges: FALL CHALLENGE 2019 - PLAN BY ANSWERING THE DIFFICULT QUESTIONS - 09/03/19 08:27 AM
As we approach the fourth quarter each year, it always seems that there are loose ends that we never want to carry forth into the new year. We plan and we plan some more…we do anything to keep from carrying over to the new year! Everyone wants to a ‘fresh’ start, right?
This year, we have heard the term ‘recession’ more than we have since 2012. I call it Chicken Little Syndrome but, it’s out there and the consumer is hearing it - and they are asking questions. Our clients are asking almost … (74 comments)

Homeownership – “Never Pay Another Man’s Mortgage”

Please disregard the lack of political correctness but, this statementwas made during a time that we women weren't quite so sensitive! Seriously, made by Warren Buffet in an interview that I heard back in the 80′s, this comment had a lasting impact on me.  If I think about it, back then, I didn’t really even think about the fact that he had said ‘man’ and not ‘man or woman!’ All that said, I took what he said to heart and refused to ever be a tenant. While I realize that everyone cannot afford to be … (13 comments)

Homeownership - An ActiveRain Challenge - June 2019
June is National Homeownership Month! The ActiveRain challenge this month is, of course, centered around the theme of the month.
Now is a great time to reflect on the many benefits of homeownership  Homeownership is a good way to build up wealth that can be passed along to your family as well. Whether you rent or own, you are paying a mortgage. Yours when you own - your landlord’s when you rent.

What does homeownership mean to YOU? The challenge this month is to share just that - easy peasy! Whether you’re a real estate … (145 comments)

Book Smart - Tigger or Eeyore?
Yes, this is the me that you'll meet when we are finally face-to-face - well, maybe without the books on my head though! My name is Sam Smith and my entire life, my friends have dubbed me a 'bookworm,' hence, the name of my self-portrait, 'Book Smart.'
Several years ago, I was diagnosed with a rare form of ocular cancer. As a full-time Realtor®, I put my career on hold...but, only for about a minute! Chemotherapy and radiation therapy became a routine that I worked into my busy lifestyle. I continued running my real estate business, even when I had … (49 comments)

New Chapters - Aging, Love and Home
If you have an ounce of romanticism in you, you know what I mean when I say that witnessing love that lasts for decades is such a beautiful treat. You see the rare couple who are celebrating 40, 50 or 60 years or more together and the gleam in their eyes when they look at one another or listen to the other one speak, is still as bright as though they were 20 years old. You know the couple - the wife is the first to laugh at the husband's jokes; the husband lovingly grasps his wife's hand when she's reminiscing about … (11 comments)

Weltanschauung: the guiding principles and philosophy of an organization; a world view
We understand that the value of the ActiveRain community rests entirely with its members. We admire the spirit of real estate professionals and believe our goal is to fully engage their talents and knowledge for the benefit of all members of the real estate community. There isn't a day that goes by here in the Rain that I don't either have an 'ah-ha' moment or learn something to help my business. Be Useful, Honorable & Compassionate - Make a Difference
What inspires me?
I took a page out of Michael Jacobs’ book and pondered Carol Williams' challenge for nearly a month! Oh, there are so many quotes to live by but, digging deep into the ‘inner me,’ I realized my motivator isn’t all about my own success.
“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”

Thanksgiving Gratitude 2018
I'd like to give a big shout-out to Debbie Reynolds for hosting her annual Thanksgiving challenge. This year, we were challenged to write 10 posts about that for which we are most thankful. I'm sure you have read some of the wonderful entries - I know I have and have completely enjoyed each and every one that I have read.

Here is my list of things for which I am grateful this year...

Thankful for Changing Seasons 2018
Thankfulness (DAY 3) - My ActiveRain Family

Thankfulness (Day 9) - Fur Babies, Glorious Fur Babies
On day 9 of Debbie Reynolds' Thanksgiving Challenge, I thought I would share one of my passions in life - sweet, sweet fur babies! Oh, how they make our days, don't they? The unconditional love is unmatched in this life and one of my favorite times of the day is arriving home, being greeted by my 3 adopted family members.
My entire family supports pet adoption and we always go with the intent of 'saving a dog' (or cat in Charlotte's case [our cat, pictured on the right]) and we never fail to realize, during the car ride home, that … (27 comments)

Thankfulness (DAY 8) - THE Best Clients a Charlotte Realtor® Could Wish For
When you think about it, most of us began in this business by helping a friend or family member or someone that one of our friends knew, buy or sell a home. And, if we were really lucky, it was a double - they were selling and also buying in the area!

*Referral from past client - one wonderful transaction!
That is, indeed, how I began in the business and that is how I have continued over the years! Best friends referred their friends, who later referred their friends, family and co-workers and … (29 comments)

Thankfulness (Day - 5) - Oh Thank Heaven for Little Boys
Those who know me, know my family is the center of my life - second only to my faith! My boys are 18 months apart, now 29 & 30 and neither certainly are not 'little' any longer! Those boys have been the apples of my eye since the day they were each born.
Matthew is the oldest and he embodies everything an older child typically does - he's very independent and has the biggesst heart of anyone I know. He's also incredibly confident as a young adult but, has not always been that way. … (25 comments)
