This is My Happy Place

Each month or special holiday, I decorate a chest that sits in my foyer to celebrate the season/holiday. In hopes that the quarantine would be lifted by Easter, decorated as I always do. We always have a houseful of family and friends in for the weekend and Easter Sunday is a big day in our home.

I will admit to waking up a little down - in fact, we slept in this morning. We awoke in time to listen to services online but, regardless, the family wasn't going to be here after services...I wasn't feeling very 'happy.' After services, I … (10 comments)

From Patients to Patience - A Road I'm Proud to have Traveled

I was recently honored in our local REALTOR® magazine and the cover story read "From Patients to Patience." I thought how clever that was but, it also reminded me that during my previous life, which is what I call Career #1, a whole lot of patience was required then too!

Prior to college, I was offered an athletic scholarship to attend North Carolina State University (NC State) and play basketball for Kay Yow. I very foolishly allowed my high school sweetheart to convince me to stay at a local private college so … (75 comments)

A Spring Week in Charlotte Real Estate - Diary of a Realtor®

Last week was a crazy, busy week in Charlotte real estate and I didn't think I could fit more into a week but, managed to do so this week! I recently read a question about teams and noticed that many responses from other agents were negative regarding being a member of a team. Well, let me tell you, I couldn't have gotten through the week without mine!

The phone calls don't stop on Mondays, even when you're doing walk-throughs and meeting with new sellers. So, it was an afternoon AND evening of catching … (12 comments)

New Chapters - Aging, Love and Home
If you have an ounce of romanticism in you, you know what I mean when I say that witnessing love that lasts for decades is such a beautiful treat. You see the rare couple who are celebrating 40, 50 or 60 years or more together and the gleam in their eyes when they look at one another or listen to the other one speak, is still as bright as though they were 20 years old. You know the couple - the wife is the first to laugh at the husband's jokes; the husband lovingly grasps his wife's hand when she's reminiscing about … (11 comments)

Speechless Sundays - Lap of Luxury
This 3-month old fur baby found the perfect spot for a nap at the lake yesterday. Our friends' mini GoldenDoodle, Lyla, is absolutely precious - and like us, plays hard but, does have a have some time for rest!

Speechless Sundays - Happy & Heavy Heart at Once

Fresh out of college, both of my boys returned to Charlotte and both easily found jobs and began their own lives. My oldest accepted a job transfer to Orlando a couple of years ago and really wanted to return to Charlotte. He applied and landed another transfer back to Charlotte (same company) in June and we have been loving having him home again!

Little did we know our youngest would accept a job in Chicago a month later! While it's an amazing job for him - especially at his age - and he's very excited about … (15 comments)

Friday Diary of a Charlotte Realtor® 01JUN18
It was a full week, beginning with a solemn. We spent a quiet day off - going to the nursery, selecting a few plants and putting them in the ground, just in time for the rain. And it's rained every day this week so, it was a perfect time to get new plants in the ground.

Then, the business of packing 5 days into 4 began! Relocation clients were in town for a couple of days and by yesterday, they were under Contract and ready for their first home in Charlotte. Two appraisals came in this … (19 comments)

Friday Diary of a Charlotte Realtor® - On Saturday! 12MAY18

I think the sunny Carolina skies brought buyers and sellers out of the woodwork this week...and the week got away from me!

The best business stories for the week...
A very difficult Seller signed-off on the complete list of repair items for my buyers...we had no idea they would handle ONE single item but, they agreed to them all! My buyers are truly delighted and can't wait to get through this process to Closing and move to Charlotte...we're almost there; the difficult part is behind us.

One of my favorite of-all-time clients is moving back … (21 comments)

One super-long week has finally come to Friday! So many firsts this week...I submitted 3 Offers on Tuesday and still have no resolution to any of them! I typically have these done in 24 hours or less but, believe me, it's not me! LOL
I had a client who had a bit of a debacle with new construction and THANKFULLY had their own representation. After months of delays, we got this one Closed this week. Having space for adult parents to live separately, the home selection led us to a fabulous new community in Fort Mill … (33 comments)

Reading the Q&A this week, there was a question about time - would we like more of it. Of course, managing our transactions is a big part of what we do and learning to manage our own time, is critical in this business. What do we do when we are overloaded? Well, add more to our plates, of course! What else?!

This has been THE busiest week I've ever had in the business. I had to have assistants help me show houses this week and I was going from 7AM to 2AM nearly every day! This week, … (27 comments)

This has been a week of 'achievements,' bidding wars out the wazoo and much, much more! Thankfully, we won all of the bidding wars but, gosh, going into midnight nearly every night this week was a bit exhausting. I'm looking forward to sleeping in on Sunday! LOL

PERSONAL
My garage sorting & emptying done and the Total Garage flooring done, both to have the garage ready for the Total Garage cabinet installation on Monday, led into a great weekend. We de-staged a listing (in the rain, no less) and also had surprise guests on Saturday & Sunday! It was … (24 comments)

Sometimes I wonder how I manage to put so much on my plate for one week - especially the week after vacation! I arrived home from my vacation on Monday afternoon and my main assistant was leaving town on Tuesday for a week so, I had to get her vacation report from her Monday evening. I have to give her major kudos - she managed to keep everything running smoothly and catching up with the clients on Tuesday, more affirmations of the job she does for me each and every day.  I have to say that I am thankful … (24 comments)

Friday Diary of a Realtor® on Vacation!
Yes, Realtors® do take the occasional vacation and I have to say, I've enjoyed each and every minute of this one! We have had a wonderful time exploring the island of St. Maarten for the past couple of days. The weather couldn't have been more perfect and we were blessed to have wonderful traveling companions as well.

Another photo opportunity in the Caribbean Sea today - several of them, in fact! I love the contrast of the colors of the sea. I could get used to these surroundings and this leisurely life!

Happy Friday All!

Friday Diary of a Charlotte Realtor® - 16MAR18

Our business is so unpredictable - just when you wonder, "Am I feeling a bit of a slow-down?" the phone starts ringing! I had that experience on Sunday, knowing I had one new listing coming this week but, for the most part, we're wrapping up inspections and Closings that are in Escrow the will be through by the end of the month. Suddenly, 4 new inquiries - 3 listings and a referral buyer - boom, out of the blue! I will say I'm keeping my photographer hopping, that's for sure!

From both a personal and business perspective, this has been a far less chaotic week - what a refreshing week it has been!

PERSONAL

Starting with personal this week - Ray's internist was able to get him scheduled for an MRI and steroid injection for his painful shoulder/arm for mid-week next week and we are thrilled. I think knowing that this doesn't have to wait until the end of the month has given Ray a whole new lease on life and actually eased the pain!

Friday Diary of a Charlotte Realtor® - On Saturday Again! 02MAR18
I remember about a month ago, posting several listings this to this week on the calendar and wondering if all would Close when they were all supposed to Close. I though, if they did, I may not come up for air until Sunday this week! Well, they did and I caught my breath today after a listing appointment and watching my college team win against our biggest rival! WHEW! Now, it's time to play catch-up for the week...

BUSINESS

I think Monday was 10 days ago...not just 5! So much was packed into this week that I barely remember Monday!

Despite it being a holiday and my dreams of no-lender-or-attorney-call--day-of-bliss, the day was insane from the minute I woke up! I had one buyers' Due Diligence Period ending at 5PM and we still hadn't come to a resolution on a 'hidden' issue. The back and forth ultimately resulted in resolution by 4PM...right down to the wire. This is something that I never allow to happen but, we were doing everything we could to impress upon the sellers, … (12 comments)

The week began with a busy Saturday, working towards wrapping up everything that I had going on before leaving for Dallas for the CRS Sell-a-bration and ActiveRain Meet-Up. Of COURSE I had an Offer pending on a multiple Offer situation and by midnight, had not heard. I knew that flying out the next day was going to have to require a little planning to communicate with the listing agent. Thankfully, we have a great rapport and she agreed to work around my schedule the following day.

Nothing like writing your diary entry at midnight - it's even later than my normal late night entry! What a WEEK! For those who read my weekly diary and always comment that the weeks are busy - well, this one topped my 2018 weeks so far - by at least 100%!

I began my week in Atlanta for an ActiveRain meet-up on Saturday - I wish I could have stayed for days - it was SUCH a bright spot in my year so far. Thank you, once again, Lynn B. Friedman for hosting and for all … (16 comments)

What a delightful week this was! The weather was a bit cooler than our normal January temperatures but, the sun was shining and business is booming - so, no complaints about the chill in the air at all!

Mondays are always my 'craziest' days - the phone rings from the time I get up until 9PM! All of the attorney's offices and lenders are back in full swing from having the weekend off and there is plenty of catching up to do.
