My blog is as much about a philosophy of life and living as it is about real estate as a business. E.F. Shumacher subtitled his book SMALL IS BEAUTIFUL "Economics as if People Mattered" In the real estate industry we realize that people matter and that where they live matters. We now also have a larger responsiblity, I believe, to get them to consider HOW they live. Everyone in the developed world using less energy and resources makes it possible for those who have access to neither to experience a better life and to make the difference between their being able to having a roof overhead or not or for their children to eat or not.

I have read several articles lately about how recycling has slowed down along with the economy. Even things like metals and paper have slowed as their (monetary) value decreased in the marketplace. Those of us who went to New Orleans for the 2006 NAR Conference saw how much the city was still a scene of devastation. Unfortunatly, most of the Lower Ninth Ward remains devasted. I will be doanting 1% fr...

Nothing is fresher or tas...

I heard an interview on the radio this afternoon with a gentleman in Miami-Dade County. He is involved with an organization that helps find housing for homeless families. He has come up with an interesting approach to the foreclosure mess. There are a number of possible reactions to this approach...

This cought my eye because it is a well worded version of what I wanted to say. I love it when someone else writes my blog for me!There is no doubt that recycling is key to an environmentally conscious lifestyle, but the critical first step has to be waste reduction.  If you ask a majority of peo...

Now and then I write a blog about remodeling and reuse of existing space. Sometimes it is just too true that a picture is worth a thousand words. I subscribe to a blog called the Web Urbanist and sometimes the pictures tell the story that no words can.  This is a picture of an abandoned nursing h...

Studs Terkel would have made a great Realtor. He was a master interviewer, drawing from people the distilled essence of what was important to them, using their own words to tell their stories and powerfully weaving those stories together to pain unforgettable portraits of amazing power. I reread ...
