missouri: Why is Richard Simmons in St. Louis? - 07/30/08 02:32 AM
Of course, he's promoting his "Sweatin' to the Oldies" DVD, but he is also here in St. Louis for another reason.  He is concerned about the lack of physical exercise offered to kids in school.
He said that 40% of today's schools offer no physical education or recess.  He remembers that he was 200 lbs. in the 8th grade and 268 lbs. when he graduated from high school.  He doesn't want other children to experience his childhood.
He will be at the Walgreens at 441 N. Kirkwood Road from 6-8 p.m. this evening (7/30/08).

missouri: Grants Farm in St. Louis to be Open Fewer Hours! - 07/29/08 02:40 AM
I am sad to hear that Grants Farm, in St. Louis, will not be as easily accessed as it used to be.
Grants Farm is a place for young and old to go and see animals, birds-of-prey, and the famous Anheuser-Busch Clydesdale horses.  In the past, it was open Wednesday through Sunday.  Now, it will only be open Saturday and Sunday.
I always liked to go during the week, because it was less crowded.  Also, schools would often take a field trip to Grants Farm in the past.  It looks like those days are over.
I guess they're is cutting costs...

missouri: More on Rush and the St. Louis Rams... - 07/28/08 11:51 AM
I heard more about Rush Limbaugh and his "desire to purchase the Rams".  He was interviewed on KMOX this morning.  He said that he, of course, has a desire to own an NFL team, but he's not a part of the "billionaire club".
He also said that he doesn't owe on anything other than his monthly expenses and he likes it that way.  He doesn't even know if the Rams are for sale.
So, you know how rumors go...

missouri: Rush and the St. Louis Rams? - 07/27/08 12:00 PM
I heard an interesting tidbid recently.  I was listening to the news and somebody said that rumor has it that Rush Limbaugh was thinking about buying the St. Louis Rams!
Is this true?  I don't know.  If he did, would they stay in St. Louis?  I don't know.
I'll keep my ears open and let you know if I learn anything more...  :)

missouri: Cards Sweep Padres? - 07/20/08 06:58 AM
The St. Louis Cardinals are on a winning streak.  They have won 4 in a row.  If they beat the San Diego Padres today, they will have swept the Padres in this series.
Earlier in the week, the Cardinals were 4 games out of first place.  Now they are only 2 games behind the Chicago Cubs.  I believe the Cubs have lost their last two games.
If both teams continue their streaks, the Cardinals may be in first place before you know it...  :)

missouri: Hottest Day of the Year? - 07/20/08 06:43 AM
If you're planning on visiting the area today, bring a tall glass of iced tea with you.  I found out that today is supposed to be the hottest day of the year, so far for St. Louis and St. Charles Counties.  How hot is that?  Well, they are saying that we may reach 98 degrees, but the heat index could be 105 degrees!
Yikes!  I had a fun day outside planned, riding my horse...I don't think so.  At least, not today...  :)

missouri: Search for Steve Fossett Continues... - 07/20/08 01:17 AM
Remember Steve Fossett?  He is the adventurer who went missing during a solo flight last September.  He attended Washington University in St. Louis, and we have been following him for years.
Well, in February of this year, they pronounced him dead, but his body has never been found.  They recently started searching for him again, hoping to find him somewhere in the western Nevada mountains.
Unfortunately, he hasn't been found.  For his family's sake, I hope he is found someday soon.

missouri: Cell Phone Ban in Missouri? - 07/19/08 01:36 AM
I don't know if anyone has heard about the tragic accident that took place in St. Louis, MO on I-64/Hwy 40 recently.  A trucker wasn't paying attention and crashed into some cars.
Well, 3 people have died, and several people were injured.  It has been mentioned that a cell phone may have contributed to the man's inattention.
This event has prompted a Missouri representative to re-introduce House Bill 317, which would ban cell phone use on highways.  Hands-free use of cell phones would still be allowed.
Have other states adopted this ban?  Have they had any effect?
