The Grand Opening of SAM: The Seattle Art Museum
The Seattle Art Museum, SAM, will be celebrating it's Grand Opening May 5th & 6th.  The museum has been closed for it's expansion, and is now almost ready for it's Grand Opening Debut next week.  This has been a very busy year so far for SAM, because earlier this year in January the Museum celebrated the Grand Opening of it's new outdoor sculpture park in Belltown.  The Olympic Sculpture Park opened during a sunny winter weekend with large crowds of Seattlites roaming the Park.

belltown: Downtown Seattle - Belltown's Cascadia Restaurant - 02/02/07 05:52 PM

Downtown Seattle - Belltown's Cascadia Restaurant,
2328 1st Avenue, Between Bell & Battery Streets,
was recently featured on The Food Network with "Giada's Weekend Getaways" when she visited Seattle.   Giada had the Mini Burgers and Cascadia's signature cocktail, the Alpine Martini, so when my friends came to visit me the last weekend of January...that's where Jacquie wanted to go for Happy Hour.  We ordered the Mini Burgers (nice and rare), Alpine Martinis, fries in a cone and Iced Tea (Rich declared the best he's had)  Our server told Jacquie that ever since the episodes began airing, the place has been packed at Happy Hour (5 to 7) with people … (2 comments)

belltown: Seattle's new Olympic Sculpture Park is now Open! - 01/23/07 08:10 AM
Seattle's new Olympic Sculpture Park is now Open!  The new 9 acre park located in Seattle's Belltown neighborhood (Urban Village) celebrated it's Grand Opening over the weekend!

There was bright sunshine, blue skies, crowds, shades, Alexander Calder's Eagle, and The Space Needle for the Grand Opening on Saturday, January 20th 2007!  Given our horrible weather these past few months, it was amazing to have such a dazzeling day for the long awaited opening of the new park!  The park was jammed with Seattlites enjoying the the ART, the SUN, the Park, and the new Beach on Elliott Bay.

belltown: Seattle Snow: It's snowing outside my office right now.... - 01/10/07 12:52 PM

It's snowing outside my office right now!  The evening commute will not be fun....
We have had a lot of challenging weather here in Seattle for the past few months...quite unlike our famous mild maritime climate.  November had record breaking rain fall and flooding, and after the Seattle Seahawks vs the Green Bay Packers game a sudden snow storm caught the commuters and game goers in a 6 hour "ice rink" commute home.  In December, we had windstorm that toppled so many trees causing "The Great Seattle Blackout" 10 days before Christmas and over a million homes lost power in Puget Sound, many for day, and … (9 comments)

belltown: Seattle's Belltown....what's big and RED? - 01/06/07 11:30 AM
So what's BIG & RED showing up in Belltown?

The Olympic Sculpture Park will be having it's Grand Opening this month on Saturday, January 20th and Sunday January 21st.  The BIG & RED sculpture called Eagle is by Alexander Calder and is truely striking when viewed on it's knoll with the overcast gray sky with the Sound and the Olympic Mountains beyond.  Seattle Art Museum (SAM) is the force behind this development, http://www.seattleartmuseum.org/  for more information.
This is a wonderful addition to the urban landscape in Belltown and of course for all of Seattle!   There are several condo develoments that overlook the Sculpture Park which lies between Western … (1 comments)

belltown: What's an "Urban Village"? - 01/05/07 03:32 PM
What's an "Urban Village"?
An Urban Village is a neighborhood that has a central "core" of shops, restaurants, services, recreation, festivals and destinations that are within walking distance for most of the neighborhood.  The Villages are places that provide the color, texture, and vibrancy of a neighborhood, and make them a desirable place to live.  Ideally a person should be able to also work in the neighborhood, but for most people that is not possible...and thus the commute!
Seattle has a number of Urban Villages in the surrounding Metro area, and each has it's own wonderful personalitly.  Fremont declares itself the "Center of … (8 comments)
