fremont: The Fremont Solstice Parade...a different kind of Parade.... - 06/17/07 10:40 AM
I met up with ARDELL and Rhonda Porter (fellow Rainers) yesterday to take a peek (and we got more than an eyeful with the Nude Painted Cyclists!) at the Fremont Solstice Parade and Fair .  None of us had been before and we had a fun time enjoying the weird and wonderful spectacle...what a hoot!  In keeping with Fremont's declaration of being "The Center of the Universe" and it's official Latin slogan:  "de Libertas Quirkas" which loosely means: "Free to be Peculiar" it The Fremont Solstice Parade is one that definitely marches to a different drummer!

fremont: Preview of this year's Solstice Parade in Seattle's Fremont - 06/14/07 10:39 PM
Preview of Fremont's Solstice Parade Festivities....
I was prowling around Seattle's Fremont (The Center of the Universe ) yesterday and came upon a warehouse (the new Theo Chocolate Factory , formerly the old Red Hook Brewery) with a sign on it about the Fremont Solstice Parade .  I parked my car and checked it out.  I peered in the windows beside the doors and saw lots of stuff for the Parade, a guy just then propped open one side of the door to let some fresh, sunshiny air in.  I started chatting with Greg, as he introduced him self, and we started talking about … (2 comments)

fremont: Flea Market Fun in Seattle's Funky Fremont - 02/21/07 06:55 PM
Flea Market Fun in Funky Fremont
Seattle's Fremont neighborhood, self declared "Center of the Universe" has an outdoor, year-round Flea Market every Sunday.
I recently spent a Sunday late morning and early afternoon with some friends poking around finding a couple of treasures and lunch at the Red Door Restaurant & Bar.
We started off by fueling up at Peet's Coffee & Teas at Fremont's main corner, Fremont Ave N and Canal St.  The Red Door used to have that location until it was picked up and moved a couple of blocks west for "development".
Fortified with fresh hot coffee and treats, we hit the … (2 comments)

fremont: What's an "Urban Village"? - 01/05/07 03:32 PM
What's an "Urban Village"?
An Urban Village is a neighborhood that has a central "core" of shops, restaurants, services, recreation, festivals and destinations that are within walking distance for most of the neighborhood.  The Villages are places that provide the color, texture, and vibrancy of a neighborhood, and make them a desirable place to live.  Ideally a person should be able to also work in the neighborhood, but for most people that is not possible...and thus the commute!
Seattle has a number of Urban Villages in the surrounding Metro area, and each has it's own wonderful personalitly.  Fremont declares itself the "Center of … (8 comments)
