FAR is happy to report that your messages to the Florida Tax and Budget Reform Commission (TBRC) were heard. In just over 30 hours Realtors from around the state sent over 50,000 messages to the Commission! Today, the TBRC formally adopted CP 002, which if passed by voters in November will eliminate the state’s required local effort for schools portion of property taxes in 2010. The proposed constitutional amendment also places a 5% assessment cap on non-homestead property — beginning next year. tax and budget commission: Tax Cuts for November Ballot May Be In

Thursday, April 24 and Friday, April 25, the Tax and Budget Reform Commission (TBRC) will be meeting to decide whether significant property tax relief will appear on the ballot in November. Because of political fighting, diverse opinions, and disagreement, members are struggling to reach the 17 votes necessary. This is very unfortunate, since the TBRC only meets every 20 years. Please contact the members of the Tax and Budget Reform Commission and urge that, AT A MINIMUM, meaningful property tax reforms be placed on the November ballot.
