holidays: Is It Smart to List Your Home During the Holidays? - 10/31/18 05:50 PM
Are the Holidays A Good Time to Sell Your Home?

Cooler weather has set in and stores are decorated for the holidays. Though I haven't heard any Christmas Carols yet except in my office, I know that people are talking about the holiday dinners, parties and gift buying. With Thanksgiving a couple of weeks away and Christmas a few weeks after that, you might be thinking there is no use in trying to sell right now, that nobody will be looking for a home during the holidays. That isn't so. Should you wait until spring?
If your home has already been on the market and it hasn't … (10 comments)

Marketing Doesn't Stop When Summer Is Over

The end of the year is within sight and there is much to be done to finish the year accomplishing all planned tasks. I love Halloween and could do themed marketing for this holiday all month long. But this is a busy time of the year for me with conferences, preparing for the annual NAR Convention, finalizing local Association business and teaching and preparing new classes to teach. There is of course regular real estate, too.

I am also busy working with new builders getting new homes on the market before cold weather sets in. So … (14 comments)

holidays: 2018 Inclement Weather Policy for Clarksville Montgomery County Schools - 02/11/18 01:39 PM
Inclement Weather Policy for 2018
Clarksville Montgomery County School System responds to serious weather conditions by staying on the safe side and closing schools. There are some weather days tucked into the school year calendar but when those days are exhausted then holidays and school in-service days are taken away. Even extending the school day by 30 minutes a day is one of the measures used to make up the missed classroom time. Students will not get the President's Day Holiday due to school closing during the snow.

Parents are notified when school closings, delays or early closings are necessary. Other emergency type situations also … (8 comments)

Do You Keep Your Phone on During Christmas Festivities?

It was several years ago when we put our home on the market the week before Christmas. We fully expected to have no action until after the holidays were done but wanted to get a jump on having it market ready and looking good with all the holiday decor.

About midday on Christmas Day the phone rang. The caller apologized for calling and disturbing our Christmas but had seen the sign while visiting some friends of theirs in the neighborhood. The caller wasn't expecting to see it that day but wanted to set an appointment for as soon as … (8 comments)

Agents Don't Have to Disclose
When you have rental property, anything can happen. The holidays are not always a happy time for people and some get terribly depressed. It happens and we should be alert to signs of depression and reach out to see if we can help.
The call came from a family member of one of our tenants. Our tenant had broken up with his girlfriend and was in despair. He took his life with a gunshot to the head right there in our rental house. The family said they will have the house clean and ready to turn back over to us … (8 comments)

Serendipity Sundays - Long Work Days
People flock to historic areas during the holidays to get a flavor of Christmas long ago. On a recent trip to St. Charles, MO, I saw horses and carriages rides going up and down the cobblestone streets of the Old Town. The places was buzzing with activity.
It was toward the end of the day and my shopping feet were tired. I was thinking I sure needed a foot bath or at least a bench to rest my feet.
Then I looked up and saw the look on the poor horses faces and knew it could be worse. They … (9 comments)

Serendipity Sundays - Christmas is Only 197 Days Away

While visiting one of my favorite craft stores last week I was looking for some gardening decor.  I was a little depressed when I rounded the corner and saw rows and rows of fall decor and Halloween decor being stocked to the ceiling. I counted the rows and there were 6 rows of this fall seasonal decor.
I get it that people like to get a jump on making their crafts and if you don't buy early the selection is slim. But this is the first of June. We have plenty of hot weather to go and … (24 comments)

Serious Sellers Are Selling Before Christmas
Over the last few weeks sellers have asked if they should wait until after Christmas to put their homes on the market. The question is are they really interested in selling?
If a seller wants to sell, now before Christmas is a good time to go on the market. The holidays still produce showings and these usually serious buyers. Besides, the homes look so good all decorated for the season and it stirs the emotions of the buyers.
Though there may not many showings you can know that the buyers are making purchasing decisions before Christmas. I tell my Clarksville … (32 comments)
