calie waterhouse: AZ Technology Fair by another name is ARMLS Technopalooza!!
- 03/05/09 10:47 AM
I knew it was coming. How could you not know? Well, today I received the email announcement. ARMLS Technopalooza ... a technology fair for ARMLS subscribers! The Arizona Regional Multiple Listing Service is really going all out this year planning this extravaganza that marries technology and real estate. Most of us involved in social media are already acutely aware of this union, but it's nice to see it in print from someone of "higher authority". So - if you're in Arizona and in real estate - you'll want to mark your calendar and plan on attending this day long event. Dustin (11 comments)
April 23, 2009 Scottsdale Stadium RE Bar Camp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from attendees. While we don't quite have a "firm" location, we do have a date. So, consider this post your invitation - kinda of a "Save The Date" announcement. Jay Thompson, The Phoenix Real Estate Guy, explains “It’s an “unconference” with no set agenda. The agenda is built that day and often morphs through the camp as people gather, talk and share. It’s (6 comments)
In the beginning, there was Web1.0 – it was a read only atmosphere. Websites became the “in” thing and dot com companies ran vapid. Then Web2.0 was born - the era of read-write philosophy. Blogs (or weblogs) are now “in” - and the phases of social networking and marketing is in full swing. Not to be confused with traditional marketing, social networking is more than a face to face meeting. It’s more than sending out an email once a month and letting your clients know what you’re doing. It’s so much more … Web2.0 is a world of transparency. It’s (9 comments)

calie waterhouse: Acronyms and Abbreviations - Our Best Work?
- 10/09/08 10:01 AM
In a society rich in acronyms and abbreviations that are considered the norm and correct grammar is an anomaly, I’m wondering if we sometimes take advantage of our “expertise” and leave others scratching their head and saying “Huh?“ Taking a step beyond Active Rain and delve into social media and you'll certainly understand what I’m talking about. Join the micro-blogging network, Twitter, and you’re bound to expel any thought into 140 characters or less. Another step is DM (direct message) or IM (instant message) – depending on the platform. Instant communication with someone to whom you are connected. Typically permission based, (10 comments)
Located approximately 3 hours or 180 miles south of Chandler is a town that is “Too Tough To Die” - Tombstone. Already a historic town, but made into a hugely popular tourist attraction when the movie (bearing the same name) hit the big screen back in 1993.
Your first stop is the Boothill Cemetery – originally known as City Cemetery. Dating back to the 1880s, Boothill graveyard is open to the public. For a small donation, you can walk amongst the graves of Frank McLaury, Tom McLaury and Billy Clanton (see photo below) – all of whom died (7 comments)

In addition to all the free stuff, this particular Chandler location will also have a couple of baseball players on hand - Rick Aguilera and Tim Salmon. calie waterhouse: To Wick or Not To Wick? That is Today's Staging Question
- 11/25/07 10:25 AM
As the holidays begin, I find myself enjoying the crisp air and the scents of the season. I have recently discovered a wonderful new scent from Partylite called "Iced Snowberries". LOVE IT! Right this minute, I probably have at least a dozen of these candles burning. I can do this while my children are not home :) I find myself staring into the flame wondering about the damage that these little beauties can cause. Obviously, for me, the beauty and serenity of these candles far out weighs the liability of lighting them.
Which brought me to this post. (33 comments)
calie waterhouse: I Missed My Anniversary?! How did that happen?
- 10/25/07 03:47 PM
October 14, 2006 was my one year anniversary. I guess we're still newlyweds, because we're still spending a lot of time together. I wake up early to spend extra time. I check-in periodically. We even spend our evenings together. How could this have happened? Our anniversary - and I missed it! Here's a picture of my significant other:
Oh come on - you've got to know by now that I've been married to the same wonderful guy for almost two decades and would (hopefully) NEVER forget my own anniversary - which by the way, is also this month!

calie waterhouse: Visit Family Friendly Freestone Park in Gilbert AZ
- 10/06/07 04:23 PM
As our Arizona mornings are cooling, I find myself out of the house rather early on Saturday mornings (say track meet?) .. . Anyways, this week's meet took us to Freestone Park here in Gilbert, Arizona. While waiting for the meet to begin, I strolled around. Within the 65 acres of this park, I found baseball cages, ramadas, a great little place to take pre-wedding photos, fields a plenty for soccer, baseball and football games, as well as this great little miniature train that goes around the park. Just a really fun place for kids of all ages and for those (5 comments)
calie waterhouse: Tempe Canal Park - Arizona Haven for Walkers, Bikers, Hikers & Fishers
- 10/06/07 04:01 PM
Just a few yards from the back of the Phoenix Zoo, is a wonderful little park called Evelyn Hallman Park - formerly known as Tempe Canal Park. Most of the park is designed with marked trails, but for those of you who love to fish, purchase your Urban Fishing license and plan on spending a day. Coined as one of the "best Urban fishing habitats" this is a definite place of enjoyment for avid fishermen. Located near McDowell and College Ave, in Tempe, AZ - if you can muster through a bit of construction, this is a great place to get (8 comments)
calie waterhouse: Staged For Sale: Statistics Update for 10886 Rosemary, Scottsdale AZ
- 08/22/07 03:08 PM
Just in case you've ever wondered if your Active Rain blog posts are driving traffic to your listing, I thought I would share these updated statistics with you on a property that I originally blogged about a few weeks ago. With the listing agent's permission, Dru Bloomfield, I would like to share some stats with you and point out that the original blog has driven more traffic to the property's website, than Zillow or Google. WOW! Also - I also want to point out, that my "other blog", also contributed to the marketing efforts of this property, as well. Top 10 sites that link (3 comments)

Diane Aurit's recent post beckons us to be aware of Blog Action Day on October 15th. Apparently, bloggers from around the world will unite to build awareness about the environment. Seems like everyone these days is at the very least - thinking green. From HGTV to Sheron Cardin's efforts to make the human race aware of the reprocussions of our thoughtless disregard for the earth in which we live - being green is alot more than Kermit D. Frog making a statement. While our family does recycle and has cut down on aerosoles, I'm wondering if the vast majority of Rainers are actually making a conscious effort to slow down (4 comments)

Scottsdale REALTOR and Fellow Active Rainer, Dru Bloomfield, emailed me this a.m. to share this article published by Realty Times in response to the NAEBA's blast of home stagers and home staging. (If you missed it - read about it from Cindy Lin or Sheron Cardin) Who's Getting In Your Pocket, Now: Spoilsport Buyer's Agent Group Comes Out Against Home Stagingby Blanche Evans of Realty Times Just to give you glimpse of what the article says - it begins with "That's as silly a complaint as I've ever heard. Worse, it can do some serious damage. Staging doesn't "make" people buy homes any more (33 comments)
Kudos to Shailesh Ghimire - Arizona's Mortgage Guru. Blog about what you want to be known for. Me, an expert? How can I possibly have anything of value to share with others? Shailesh Ghimire's blogging seminar earlier today was informative, encouraging and blogging 102 simplified. (Blogging 101 was earlier this year at Phoenix Blogging Conference).
In a world where content is king, Shailesh shared some really great ideas about how to get the most from your blogging efforts- including keywords, links, deep linking, back linking, reciprocal linking and let's not forget linkedin. He was generous with the information he shared and gave (4 comments)

calie waterhouse: It's Time To TOOT - A Little Bit Louder Now!
- 08/06/07 08:25 AM
Why? Why? Why? I just have to ask, "Why?" WHY is it so hard for home stagers to stand up and be heard? Why are we so quiet about the service we provide? What's the big secret? With first hand knowledge and personal experience behind you, think about it this way - A vacant home is empty, uninviting - sitting there waiting for someone (anyone) to pour some attention on it.
But a staged home offers possibilities, potential and promise.
What picture is coming to your mind? Do you really want to be thought of as a home where "no (22 comments)
calie waterhouse: Take 2 Aspirin & Call A Home Stager in The Morning
- 08/03/07 02:27 PM
This week, I've been working with a wonderful home seller who has done so much in preparing their family home for sale - I might even go so far to say, it's been too much. When I became a home stager, my heart felt mission was to help home sellers prepare their property to sell in the least amount of time with the least amount of stress. This week, I came to realize that selling your family home is indeed very stressful Without going into extensive detail, I'll share with you that this lovely woman has a full time working husband. A wonderful man - but (15 comments)
