staging: Active Rain Group about Absolutely Nothing - 08/06/07 01:30 AM

Announcing yet another Active Rain group forming - Group about absolutely nothing.

OK, I am not kidding about this. I realized, after Craig's gentle reminder about staying on subject, that many of our posts are not directly related to home staging but since we are a community we seem to enjoy posting to this group (and others). So I thought I would create a different group for those of us who want to post items that are not directly related to staging but might be of interest to everyone here. The group is titled using an obscure Seinfeld … (20 comments)

staging: Are your clients really committed to selling their home? - 04/17/07 01:44 AM

I firmly believe that in today's real estate market the days of selling homes "as is" is rapidly fading away. With the emergence of "home staging" as a profession, the explosion of home shows on television that deal with this issue (not to mention things like home staging features on Oprah) and a rise in awareness by Realtors that this is a viable marketing strategy that can help their clients sell their property, one would think that almost everyone would be staging their homes. Not so. Their are still many clients who refuse to do anything to their homes forcing their … (8 comments)

staging: You Can't Jump the River in Two Medium Leaps. - 04/16/07 02:11 PM

This tag line can, of course, be read at several levels. First it is a metaphor for risk and effort. In the case of our own efforts, it says Go For It. What ever you decide to do, do it with passion-don't do it halfway. Make the leap-if you fail, at least you know you gave it everything. Sometimes even the failure can be just what we needed. Success is not always measured in making something work. Remember the oft told tale concerning Thomas Edison and his reputed 17,000 failures before he found the right element for the electric light bulb. … (6 comments)

staging: Home Staging-The Oft Asked Question: To Stage or Not to Stage - 03/12/07 12:55 PM
No I am not referring to Shakespeare as my literary skills do not extend to the Elizabethan world of the Bard....
Recently, a number of post have ask the question: To Stage or Not to Stage and looked at this question from different angles. I wish to offer another angle.
I personally think that every home should be staged-vacant or not- the problem comes in when you start doing vacant homes. The price can scare people away but many times it is just psychological and not rational. For example, in my area home prices are deeply depressed and have been for … (10 comments)

staging: Home Staging Inquiries for a "friend" - 02/06/07 06:13 AM

So, after getting my sixth call in the past two weeks from a "friend" of someone wanting to know about staging, I am sending this blog out as a public service announcement. Please note; if you are calling a stager trying to find out about going into the staging business yourself, please have the courtesy to say so. Don't pretend you are calling for your "friend" as no one does that, especially when it comes to their biggest investment- their home. I mean would you have a "friend" call a stockbroker or a tax accountant? I don't think so. It is … (11 comments)

staging: Interent Real Estate Search - 01/29/07 02:12 AM
In reading the interesting post Your Personal Statistics? Online SIte? Monica Hubert where she has actually tracked and verified that the vast majority of her leads are coming from the Internet , I was reminded again of one of my main arguments for home staging- the real estate internet photos. Which of these would you rather have on your site? Keep  in mind this is a very small cape cod at the lower end of the price range where I live- demonstrating that any home can be improved with staging no matter what the price range.

staging: Another call for references and statistics - 01/29/07 12:48 AM
At the risk of repetition, as well as some major embarrassment, I am putting out another call for any and all references and citations of studies, surveys, and statistics on home staging. I am afraid I have suffered a major computer glitch and the document where I had these stored has become corrupted. So if you sent me links or information in the past, please resend them so I can start over.  Additionally if you would like to a copy of the final compilation then please e-mail me. If will be better if you e-mail me directly rather than through active rain … (5 comments)

staging: Home Staging- Adding emotional connection with flowers Part 3 - 01/27/07 05:36 AM
Here is another in my series of simple easy to do flower arrangements that will help you add color, warmth, and emotional connection to any staging project. This one uses five sunflowers in a simple thick green glass vase. The vase is about 4 inches square. The sunflowers are cut very short- say about 5-6 inches and, as always in flower arrangements, you should use an odd number. In this case, I have used five. It makes a very nice table centerpiece for not that much money. Even paying retail for the sunflowers -it will run about $15 for the flowers … (11 comments)

staging: Top Ten reasons NOT to professionally stage your listings: - 01/17/07 12:14 PM
1) You have become attached to the mice nesting in your lock box.
2) "For Sale" sign has become part of landscape and removal would now require heavy machinery.
3) Don't really need the commission since already wealthy beyond wildest imagination.
4) Afraid stager would suggest removal of client's beanie baby collection.
5) Afraid to upset client over cost of staging due to secretly believing Realtor commission is over-priced.
6) Confused "Staging" with "Aging" and, due to youth orientated culture, plans to avoid this like the plague.
7) Overdose on HGTV shows has caused a strange side effect of stager repulsion.
8) Secret fantasy of becoming an … (11 comments)

staging: Home Staging and Realtor's Opinions - 01/17/07 02:46 AM
I was reviewing some past blogs on Active Rain. They, are, admittedly, from the ancient past as blogging goes (Dec 7, 2006) when I read one of Sheron Cardin's fine postings titled Could Realtors who have heard of HOME STAGING please raise your hands!  and it started me thinking again....I know, I know that can be a problem but it is so cold here today (0'F) that I had to do something to warm up.
Anyway, what I would like is to hear from Realtors about their fears and objections concerning professional staging. I know there are many Realtors out there who have no objections to … (17 comments)
