The Athenaeum will host an exhibition of sketches, watercolors, prints, architectural drawings and photographs that document two hundred years of Philadelphia buildings that were commissioned by the Federal Government as well as those that housed federal offices. Steamin' Days  at Auburn Heights, a State Park in Yorklyn Delaware will give visitors a chance to climb into an antique steam auto or board one of the little trains circling the grounds. You can also tour the 1897 mansion which once belonged to the Marshall family, which owned a nearby paper mill. There will be activities for all ages and steam generated popcorn, plus hot dogs and refreshments. Admission fee.

The Amstel and Dutch houses will open for the season at 10 a.m. on April 4. Tickets available at the Arsenal, 30 Market Street. Also, the annual meeting will be Tuesday, April 10 at the Arsenal at 7 p.m.  And join "History Rocks", a party and learning session about the Society on Friday, April 13 at 7 p.m. Fee is $10 a person for light refreshments, music, dancing, and cash bar.

Start your weekend with a bang on July 1 at Fort Delaware State Park. at 12:15 p.m. witness a heavy artillery demonstration from one of the largest Civil War-era cannons that still fires on a regular basis.  Then at 1:15 join a soldier or civilian for an inspection of the fort's many rooms and areas. Meet some of the various individuals who lived and worked at the fort in 1864.

delaware events: Delaware's Own Chinese Festival Coming to Hockessin - 08/10/16 06:10 AM
I always look forward to the Chinese Festival in Hockessin, Delaware. It is appearing late on the summer calendar, because apparently they had construction going on earlier. 
I am sure it will be a great event--I have been going for at least 10 years, dating back to pre-air conditioning in this re-purposed school. It has been quite a few years since the Chinese American Community Center cooled off, and hopefully the singers, dancers, instrumentalists, yo-yo and martial arts performers will be at their best. The costumes are always beautiful and the small children doing folk dances are amazing.
