It smells like Apple Pie in my house on this First Day of Autumn!!! North Carolina is home to many Apple Orchards... many of them in the Western part of the state, but we have some around Pinehurst, too! The apples I used today are called "Arkansas Blacks" and they are an heirloom variety from Ken Chappell's Farm just 15 minutes outside of Pinehurst. They are tart & dense when picked, but sweeten with age. I mixed in a few Granny Smith's, too.
I joined the Sandhills Farm To Table Cooperative (SF2T) this past Spring in an effort to eat healthier and in turn support our local Moore County farmers! I was a little skeptical of the quality of the produce that I might receive for the price per box. Well, let me tell you, I had absolutely NO REASON to be skeptical!!!
When I picked up my very first box of produce I was MORE THAN pleased! Everything looked so beautiful and ripe...and every box after that 1st one looked just (17 comments)
I've tried my hand at 'Backyard Gardening' the past couple of years. I do enjoy it... but it takes time, work and a little bit of luck to grow good veggies!!! Time is something I don't seem to have much of these days...Work, I'm used to, but I'm spent at the end of a workday...Luck, well, it comes & it goes.
So, I decided to try something different this year in order to have fresh picked produce at my fingertips. I joined the Sandhills Farm (8 comments)
