Highlands Ranch neighborhood & Douglas County School District opens Stone Mountain Elementary
The doors are set to open today for the Community Open House of Stone Mountain Elementary in the Weatherstone Neighborhood of Highlands Ranch.  Back in April, I showed you some early photos of the building as it was being constructed.
Today, January 5th,  at 1:30pm,  a Community Open House will be held so everyone can see how beautiful this new school is.   The students have been attending school this year at a temporary location and will begin the second half of the year next week at Stone Mountain. … (3 comments)

denver real estate: Website to Provide "Transparency" in Colorado Hospitals - 12/01/07 01:46 AM
I read an article this week online through the Denver Business Journal that I found very interesting.  A new website has been launched, The Colorado Hospital Report Card, allowing potential hospital-seekers look & compare facts such as cost and quality for Colorado Hospitals.  It is the result of House Bill 1278 that "required Colorado hospitals to report on clinical measures that let consumers compare health care services."
The website's homepage states that it has the "primary purpose of ensuring that statewide hospital data and clinical outcomes are made available to the general public in a clear and usable manner."

denver real estate: Lone Tree & Highlands Ranch Real Estate - Market Conditions - October 2007 - 11/29/07 04:31 AM
Highlands Ranch Homes & Lone Tree Homes - State of the Market - October 2007
Real Estate in Northern Douglas County - (for Highlands Ranch & Lone Tree) - has taken the normal time of the year slow down and although many other parts of Denver have slowed even more, there has still been activity in Highlands Ranch and Lone Tree.
I have been saying this all year - and I will add it again.
If you want to/ need to sell your home - you have to price it right.
There is just no other way.  This is not a … (2 comments)

denver real estate: Colorado Living - Cutting Down Your Own Christmas Tree - You Need More Than a Good Saw - 11/27/07 02:50 PM
One of the common things I hear from clients once they have relocated to Colorado -is they just can't wait to cut down their first Colorado Christmas tree.  While this sure tends to be a popular event, you need to be prepared in advance or you are going to be out of luck.
What most people don't realize when they are new to the area, that to cut down a tree in the national forest, you need a permit from the forest service.  And these do sell out, so it's not something you can just decide the day before.  In fact … (0 comments)

denver real estate: Living in Denver - The Parade of Lights - 11/27/07 07:34 AM
A favorite holiday tradition for my own family, The Parade of Lights hits the streets of Denver this Weekend.
On Friday (11/30) and Saturday (12/1) nights, marching bands, floats, dancers, horse drawn carriages and balloons and of course Santa Claus will parade throughout downtown Denver lit up in their holiday flair adding to the kick-off of the holiday season.
The school marching bands are a wonderful treat as not only are they competing for their musical performance, but for their lights as well.
Throughout the years, I have attended the Parade of Lights several times - generally during the warmer years.
The weather looks fairly good … (7 comments)

denver real estate: Highlands Ranch Real Estate - Open Space, Mountain Views, Greenbelts and Parks - What Does It All Mean? - 10/26/07 04:31 PM
Highlands Ranch Homes and Real Estate - What's the Scoop with the Views and the Land?
Often when I have a buyer considering relocating to Highlands Ranch, they will specify that they don't want anyone behind them, meaning another house.  Sometimes they will be as specific as wanting to be on a greenbelt, on a park, have a mountain view or something of that nature.  But it can be confusing - so here is a low down.
Mountain Views- Let's tackle this one first.  First of all, if you search mountain view in the Denver MLS, you are going to find lots … (3 comments)

denver real estate: Living in Denver, Wash Park Grille - 10/20/07 04:41 AM
Denver Homes &  Living in Denver - Denver Restaurants -  Wash Park Grille
If you are looking for a fun, delicious, well established Denver restaurant, without going all the way downtown - I would recommend checking out Washington Park Grille, more well known as Wash Park Grille.  Located on south Gaylord street just a bit north east of Wash Park, its long been a Denver local favorite.
Their mostly Italian menu has a local flavor to it, and its a great blend of steak, chicken, pasta and seafood.  We have been eating here for years and it seems to always be a … (2 comments)

denver real estate: New to Denver? This is a Must Have! - 10/08/07 04:12 PM
If you are new to Denver, you need to pop by your local grocery or book store and pick up this months issue of 5280 Magazine.  Now, I do pick up the magazine throughout the year to to find a new Denver restaurant to try or read about a local icon, history or just a random story.  But there is something special about the October issue each year - and it has become a Must Have in my house.
October is the month that 5280 publishes their Top Doc's in Denver list.  And what makes is so great, is these Doctors are not chosen my you … (9 comments)

denver real estate: Castle Rock Real Estate and Living - The Outlet Mall - 10/06/07 07:17 AM
If you are considering a relocation to Castle Rock, CO, you will be please to know that there is a terrific Outlet Mall located right in the heart of Castle Rock.   Located so conveniently off of I-25 and Meadows Parkway, the Outlets at Castle Rock are a nifty way to do some shopping without regular mall prices and remain outdoors enjoying the beautiful Colorado outdoors.
Some of the stores included are the Gap Outlet, Polo Ralph Lauren, Timberland, Haggar, Samsonite, Guess, Fossil, Columbia Sportwear, Brook Brothers Factory Store, Coach Factory Store (my wife likes that one says the Visa bill), Nautica, Liz Claiborne, … (14 comments)

denver real estate: Living in Littleton - Littleton Historic Museum Celebrates Fall with Harvest Festival and Pumpkin Sale - 10/05/07 08:05 AM
One of the most popular events of the year for the Littleton Historic Museum is just around the corner.  Littleton residents and Denverites alike annual flock to the Littleton Historic Museum each year for the Harvest Festival and Pumpkin Sale.  I have not been to this event myself in a while, but we are trying to see if we can fit it in our schedule this year.
The Harvest Festival and Pumpkin Sale takes place on Saturday, 10/13 from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm rain or shine.  This can be a very crowded event and I suggest arriving early, especially if … (2 comments)

denver real estate: Living in Denver - A Flurry Of Activity This Weekend - 10/04/07 01:30 AM
Will you be in downtown Denver this weekend?  Its no longer October - Its Rocktober!
This week-end in Denver was already slated to be extremely busy, and now that the Colorado Rockies are in the play-offs (GO ROCKIES!)there are even more activities to pick from in downtown Denver Saturday and Sunday.  Here are just a few that you can pick from. One tip though, if you will be going downtown from any of the suburbs this week-end, I have to think that public transportation such as light rail or the RTD bus service would be a very good idea.  I have to … (10 comments)

denver real estate: Living in Douglas County - Waterton Canyon - 10/03/07 03:17 PM
So Many Denverites will tell you that the outdoor opportunities are virtually endless, practically right out their back door.  I would have to agree, 100%.  If you are living in Douglas County, you have one such place in such close distance - you have to check it out.
Waterton Canyon is located off of Waterton Road in Littleton - follow the signs from C470 and Wadsworth after heading south on Wadsworth.  It is a beautiful area maintained by Denver Water, even though it is outside of Denver.  The trail itself is an easy dirt road with a very mild incline (my kids can handle … (6 comments)

denver real estate: Denver Real Estate - Why Do I Write About Local Businesses? - 09/23/07 08:01 AM
I received a wide variety of inquiries this week, both by phone and email - regarding why I sometimes blog about local events and businesses outside of Denver Real Estate and would I be willing to write about local businesses for compensation.  The answer is really in 2 parts.
First, when someone is going to relocate to Denver, they generally are coming in blind.  For the most part, they are starting from scratch, and I have always received a huge inquiry as to what my favorite restaurants are, what malls are great, where is the best place to go downtown, etc.

denver real estate: Highlands Ranch Real Estate - Highlands Ranch Town Center - 09/22/07 04:56 PM
The Highlands Ranch Town Center is a "newer" area in Highlands Ranch and is centered around a unique shopping area for Highlands Ranch and community space.  There are a variety of shops & restaurants in Town Center and some are really great.  Although it is nearing a completion look, there is still even more building to be done at Town Center.
There is a lot of speculation of what is still to come and what will fill the few vacant spots that are already completed.  But there are already so many great places in Town Center - One of my favorites is … (2 comments)

Denver Home Buyers - Use the Loan Officer Your REALTOR® Recommends - They Do So For A Great Reason!
I write this to my future Denver real estate clients, and all of the clients of the world out there.  In the last year or so, I personally have recognized a growing trend in my own real estate business.  Many of my clients don't seem to want to use the loan officer that I may recommend to them.  And for the most part I don't get it.  Because of that, I have been involved in so many internet loan fiascos in the past 12 months … (6 comments)

denver real estate: Living in Denver - Its Almost Time for The Chatfield Pumpkin Festival - 09/22/07 02:15 PM
One of the things you will quickly find once you are settled in your new Denver home, is there is always something going on.  Fall is no exception - in fact I think that the wonderful activities actually multiply in September and October.
One of my family's favorites is coming up - and that would be the Chatfield Pumpkin Festival.  Before I go any further, let me say this - if you go - bring a wagon.  You will want it to pull your pumpkins back to the car.
The Chatfield Pumpkin Festivalis October 13th and 14th at the Denver Botanic … (0 comments)

denver real estate: Living in Highlands Ranch - Autumn Activities for All - 09/22/07 12:28 PM
Highlands Ranch always has an abundance of activities - that is just one of the reasons that Highlands Ranch is such a great place to live.  The fall in Colorado has always been my favorite time of year in Denver and having so many great things to do practically in my backyard makes it even better.

Here are just some of the activities coming up in Highlands Ranch.  Enjoy!

denver real estate: Denver Real Estate - Plan on Eating Your Thanksgiving Turkey in Your New Home? - 09/22/07 02:45 AM
Thinking of Being in a New Home for the Holidays this year?  If your home isn't listed, you need to get started now.
In years past, I generally get calls in mid to late October with potential Denver home sellers asking about moving in time for the holidays.  In this years case, if you plan on carving your turkey in a new home, or singing Fa La La La in your new living room, or celebrating any holiday in November or December for that matter in your new Denver home - you need to get on this now, if you haven't already.
