As this blog-to explain what is meant by Imperial Calcasieu - was started, it became apparent that for the sake of those relocating to Southwest Louisiana, it would be best to explain "Why Louisiana has parishes instead of counties." CalcasieuParish (Lake Charles is the "Parish Seat" of Calcasieu Parish) was first created in 1840 from one of the original 19 civil parishes established by the Louisiana legislature in 1807. Governor Jindal recently signed a bill that gives police the authority to stop a driver for texting while driving. The new law goes into effect on August 15th. Until that time, law enforcement officials can only cite a driver for texting while driving if they are pulled over for another alleged violation.Why wait until August 15th? The Lake Charles Downtown Development Authority (DDA) unveiled the renderings of the new Lake Front and Downtown Development Future Plans at a pre-advertisement conference today in the Contraband room at the Lake Charles Civic Center. The DDA and Architect, Randy Goodlow provided animations of projected visions of downtown and lake front upon completion.
